Good morning mmpers! I’m so sorry for not doing last week’s mmp, but I didn’t know if someone had claimed it and I didn’t want to step on any toes.
Some of you are my facebook friends and are probably aware that my 70 year old aunt fell and fractured her hip this past July, and I took care of her three dogs while she was in the hospital. When it came time for her to go home the concensus was that she could handle the two dogs she has had for a long time, but that she was going to need to let her most recent rescue dog back to the rescue.
So my aunt sends me a tearful message, outlining this poor wee dog’s sad story, blah blah blah. I am down to two pommies, Tara and her pup Satine. I do not want another male dog, I am tired of the marking, and I have decided that when Tara and Satine are gone I want two very small pommie females, one a black and tan and the other a wolf sable, for a lifetime of spoiling. I don’t want this sweet, pretty, male papillon who has a tendency to mark on my bed.
He is a very pretty dog though, tri-colored and affectionate, and the more I think about his story the more reluctant I am to send him back into rescue. My aunt gives me more information, he is 12 years old and has bounced from home to home to rescue to home to foster to shelter as infinitum. As I work with him I see that his issues are fear based, he isn’t aggro but he does sound fierce when he doesn’t want to be petted or moved when he is disinclined to move!
Longer story shorter, I have kept him, and so, in addition to my two senior pom ladies I now have a senior papillon gentleman, his name is Rikki, and he is becoming a more balanced dog every day!
Here is a link to a photo, I will try to post some more tomorrow when I am more alert. Happy Moanday, hijack away! Rikki
First! Have to get the juvenilities out of the way before swampy gets out of his pit
Wiki, he looks like a happy little dog, he knows he’s found a good person for his final home. My black cat, Shadow, was a rescue who came along at the age of around 10 (the vet guessed based on the state of his teeth and his overall size) and for his first six months in the house, he had some very unsavoury habits. It would be fair to say that I had the cleanest duvet in town because it went through the wash every couple of days.
Eventually, he settled down and got over his need to pee everywhere, now he is a portly and indolent boy with a purr like a train who loves to get some fuss but only on his terms, and regularly mugs anyone who goes near the fridge. That would account for his portly condition these days since I can’t resist the pleading eyes.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis a cool and clear 43 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 72 for the day. A very pleasent late Fall/early Winter day, dependin’ on how one interprets this time of year. For me December = Winter.
Wiki good on you for takin’ Rikki in! He looks like such a sweet boy. Then again, we all know trouble can come wrapped up in all kinds of cute.
BooFae I am proud you understand the importance of bein’ juvenile.
OK, that’s all I got. I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, alas and alack, 'tis Moanday so purtification for irk must commence.
Why was the traffic so doggone heavy this morning?? Was everyone in that much of a hurry to get to work on Moanday?
**Kai **- your story is the very reason I need to stay away from Petco on pet adoption day. I see the kittehs or puppehs in crates, looking all cute and pathetic… Altho these days I am more inclined to stick a few bucks in the donation jars rather than take home another critter.
Our intrarwebz were spotty at home last night, which was maddening. And last night was Santa on the fire truck night. I was making lunches when I saw the fire truck drive down the road along the side of our yard. Santa looked bored - no one was out waving or anything. Tho there aren’t that many kids in our neighborhood anyway.
Well, time to simulate productivity. Happy Moanday!
Oops, kwalik beat me too it, albeit my title is much cooler than his (see the last post in last weeks’ MMP file. Let this die a natural death and I’ll try to do better.
Wiki, be sure not to lose his number… (geezer joke)
boofairy and FCM, I guess once I retire I’m going to have to visit the Petco and think seriously about acquiring a canine or two…
Sunday was Olive Garden day and I unabashedly stuffed myself (2 bowls of salad and 5 breadsticks) so that I came home and took a 3-hour nap. That made falling asleep at night difficult (I’m one of those folks who if I nap during the day, it takes me forever to fall asleep at night; my dad and brother can nap thru the day and be asleep in 3 minutes flat that evening–not fair!). About 3 am and in half-awake mode, I poked at something in my nose and started a nosebleed (first in I don’t know how long) that require full wake-age and many kleenex. Then the alarm went at 0500.
Was tempted to call in sick, but guess what…my boss is out this week and I’m acting Branch Chief, so no excuses…so here I am, hoping the caffeine levels in Mountain Dew are sufficient to get me through the day.
My first post to a MMP tread …err… thread. Be gentle to me as I am just finishing my first cup of java.
I am about to go on a journey in this, and neighboring counties, that involves picking up used couches, old washing machines, a desk or two that have seen better days, and boxes of books and magazines that mankind have ignored since 1980 or so.
You all are welcome to ride along. This could be fun!
At irk of course. Tis still raining. Has been raining now for four days which is most unusual for December. This is summertime weather. At least it is in the mid 70’s so not cold and rainy.
HotHouse! Good one! I was wracking my brain on that one.
Wiki good op! Can never go wrong with a pet adoption story. I went through a number of adoptions in my two marriages but other than a pair of Guinea Pigs I rescued last year I have been pet free for awhile (single working long hours in small home). That will all change in a bit over a year when I move and the kids rejoin me for college. I expect it will be a zoo again then.
Mom I find the stretch from just before Thanksgiving to just after New Years has the worst traffic. Just about equals the weeks around Labor Day as all the summer vacations end. People are on edge, and I think there are more ‘occasional’ drivers out there messing everything up. I’m one of those evil people who celebrates the government shutting down only because it makes driving through DC a hell of a lot easier.
Metal Mouse I’m with you on lack of sleep. Stayed up too late surfing YouTube. Slow to go today. Really wanted to call out.
HotHouse owns a pickup and everyone knows it? You’re supposed to keep pickups hidden from view.
My short story involves food. As a single guy I tend to fall into cuisine ruts: easy, filling, tend to be large batches of food, much made in the crock pot. Yesterday I was grocery shopping for the basics when I decided to mix it up a little.
Long story short I made my first Crock Pot Pot Roast and came out pretty good. Couldn’t thicken the gravy wit flour because when I opened the glass jar I found the flour was moving (tiny fly larvae infestation) so that got tossed. But beyond that it was delicious, filling and there’s plenty for a couple days. Just had a plate for breakfast.
And with that it’s time to run. Have a good Monday y’all.
Get up to put the dog out and what do I see, not only has somebody parked on my parking pad, but they have also parked in such a way as to block me in.
So I called the tow company who unfortunately got here about two minutes too late and the asshole was already warming up his car and getting ready to leave.
I - who has a problem with her back and can barely move sometimes - it is amazing what adrenaline can do - was out the door and to the jerk’s car before he knew what hit him.
I demanded to know why he was parked on my property, who told him he could park there. He said he was here to visit his mom - next door - I said I don’t give a fuck what you are here for - why do you think you can park on MY property? It takes a special kind of stupid to not only park on somebody else’s property but you have me blocked in - how fucking stupid are you? Then he hits me with - he had to park there because somebody else was parked in the other spot. I said OH! so that is an excuse to park on MY property and block my gate? What are you - 3 fucking years old - somebody else does it so it means you can too???
For real - you come to visit your mother and that means you can park where ever you want? You think you are entitled to block somebody else’s driveway because you can’t park on the other side - which is MY property too! That person is lucky didn’t see them or I would have called sooner.
I hate excuses… there is nothing that makes me so angry as to hear lame ass excuses. Or somebody who thinks I am supposed to care about their bullshit. I don’t want to hear any excuses.
Poor tow truck driver - he looked like he had no idea what to think - some crazy assed woman going off on some jerk.
I told the guy, that tow truck is here for you, so you just wasted his time too.
The driver is a nice guy. He apologized for not getting there sooner, he said once he has his chains on they have to pay him or he is taking it. So he gave me his card and said next time he’ll try to get there faster. He’s also going to come out and put up some big signs in my fence in such a way that you can see them whether the gates are opened or closed.
Sari - I’m thinking that tow truck driver sees potential revenue with you. He could have had two impounds today!
Son on the bus and off to school, daughter about to leave. MiL still here. It’s my daughter’s birthday today, so we shall have various festivities later in the day.
Pet adoption stories - all of mine are adopted except the Newfie. 2 dogs and 3 cats. I really want a smart dog, but I think I need to wait a bit.
My friend/massage therapist has a Chihuahua/Papi mix and she is the sweetest little lover-girl in the world (the dog, not the friend, although she has her good points, too). Daphne will run up to me and make me pick her up so she can love all over me. I figure doggie kisses are part of the therapy session.
Vended at a craft show this past weekend. It’s an annual thing and in recent years we have been plagued with bad venues and crappy weather and the shoppers are just not coming like they used to. This year we had a great venue in the local Shriner’s Temple, but still no shoppers. I didn’t even make my booth fee back. Hopefully next year the word will get out and the folks will start coming again.
