A Reluctant Rescue, A Papillon MMP

Tomorrow Sah-son takes his Geography final. I tried to help him study but my throat hurts and my voice is going.

I’m going to put down some mouse poison and go to bed.

Why is this night different than all other nights? Not the right Jewish holiday, but it works
Do you visualize whirled peas?

Sorry, I know the feeling

  1. The forwards and Faulk scoring 1,000,000 goals a night is undone by Ward having a save percentage worse than a drunken C League goalie.
  2. I want the “Visualize Whirled Peas” bumper sticker for my truck.

Well, the new place doesn’t have internet! I’ll probably be scarce until Saturday when it’ll be swapped over to the new house.

Sad update: I collect Tarantulas as a hobby and have since I was very young. It’s a stress to move them, they don’t like being jostled and are easily frightened. The 2 breeds I currently have are naturally skittish. When we moved, Aragog (The name is from Harry Potter) stopped eating. I knew she was prepping for a molt. Yesterday morning I woke up to find that she had waited too long to molt (likely due to stress from the move), and got stuck in her molt during the night and died. Very sad day. She was lovely. I think that after my last T passes away (She’s 15, so she only has a few years left in her) I’ll take a break from getting any more.

Blurf.

(((((Luci))))), I’m sorry to hear about Aragog, she certainly was a beauty. What’s the average life span for them?

Nothing very exciting going on in my corner of the world at the moment, we have three days of teaching left this semester and then peace in the office…and campus will be empty for a whole month. That means we have three more days of students running around in a panic because they have to submit work electronically and they can’t remember what to do…

Today we are having our office xmas lunch at 2pm, we have to do it rather late in the day as the student enquiry counter is open until then, but we close early on Wednesday as there’s no teaching in the afternoon so technically the students should not be coming in bothering us.

Then tonight is pub night…although I might still be sleeping off lunch by then!

Females can live to be 15+. Males generally live around 7 years. Aragog was only 3, hence my shock.

It’s not incredibly uncommon for a Tarantula to get stuck in their molt. It usually happens if they’re stressed or weakened. If they wait too long to shed their skin, it can harden and be too difficult to break through. She’s a large breed (they grow to be around 8" across), so they molt semi-regularly.
The entire molting process is a very difficult and strenuous experience for them. My S/O actually noticed something was wrong before I did. I got home from work and he said, “She looks strange.” Generally, a T will flop onto its back (and appear dead) and then shed its carapace.
But for some reason, Aragog was attempting to molt while lying on her stomach. I’ve never seen a T do that. I’m guessing she became too stressed from the move, got trapped, and then made a last minute effort to get out.
It’s really dangerous to move a T while they’re molting. Every other time I’ve done it has ended in their death. So, this time, I chose to let her try to get out from the position she was in. I added extra humidity to her enclosure and hoped for the best. Sadly, she couldn’t get fully free, and in the morning I found her dead, halfway out of her previous skin.

I get way too attached. I know it’s just an arachnid but man, I was pretty devastated. I reared her from a Sling to nearly full grown.

I hate that! There’s a special place in Heck for offices that do that.

The pharmacy can usually give you a couple of days of meds to get you through. Unless it’s an inhaler, in which case you’re up a creek. :frowning:

ETA: the holiday we currently have is Hanukkah, but that’s a weird one to close for.

All night long, I kept dreaming it was time to get up for work. Then I’d look at the clock and realize it *wasn’t *time to get up for work. Higgs started fussing a little after 4, and **FCD **got up to shower about 4:20, so that ended my quest for rest. On the plus side, I had enough time to empty and refill the dishwasher before leaving the house.

I don’t know what kinds of meds you’re dealing with, sari, but for my BP and cholesterol stuff, CVS will automatically refill for me and they’ll automatically contact my doctor when I need a new scrip. Surely other pharmacies do that too - maybe you need to ask?

And Happy Anniversary to MEEEEEEE!! 32 years ago, my sweetie and I drove to Green Cove Springs to get our license, then to Norris Bookkeeping & Accounting to have a notary make us all legal, followed by lunch at McDonald’s. Ah, romance!!

Meanwhile, we’ll see if the boss gives me any work today. Happy Wednesday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 39 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 71 and sunny for the day. High temps the next few days will reach into the mid to upper 70s. Weather be weird! I need to go to the north forty this mornin’ but don’t need to be there until ten. Thus, I am startin’ my irk day from da cave since 'tis closer from here than the orifice.

{{{luci}}} even though Aragog was a  spider  I’m sorry for your loss. Pets are pets and it’s always tough to lose one.

OK, that’s all I got. I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants sustenance. Then, alas and alack, irk purtification must commence.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Welp, I’ve done the 2 drawings left over from late yesterday. Can’t find the boss. Got nothing to do. I need a real job…

**((Luci)) **Sorry to hear about the spidey. It’s clear from your post that you know much about tarantulas, so I’m sure she got good care during her lifetime.

I’m drinking coffee. Going to head to the post office soon. I’m mailing out Christmas cards in installments over a few days, so the post office workers won’t be more swamped than they already are.

Tonight is the dress rehearsal for my band’s concert, which will be on Saturday. My first concert with this band.

*Makes note to self to never, ever visit that spider-loving luci.

What? Arachnaphobic? Why, yes, yes I am…:stuck_out_tongue:

Otherwise except for a bout of gas that would peel paint when I woke up this morning (I know, way to much info), just an ordinary hump day. Weather is still pleasant which I and my heating bill approve of, and no rain before Firday according to the weather boffins.

I actually do have work today, FCM, if the computer system it’s in allows me access. Still acting boss, my branch chief is in meetings in Sweden, of all places…

Excelsior!

Found the boss 15 minutes ago. We’ll see how much longer I’m idle…

Emily & Swampy - Thank you.
Metal Mouse - No worries! The only one I have left is a cranky old lady that rarely comes out of her burrow. Hope your gas clears up. Hah!

Storm’s blowing in and the lights are flickering! It’s supposed to rain pretty much non-stop the next 10 days. It’s been an interesting fall, I’m curious to see how bad winter gets. Headed home in a minute. I may or may not have spent wayyyy too much on Amazon a few nights ago. Hey! We needed… Stuff.

Up, caffeinated, closing tonight.

Luci, sorry about Aragog.

Happy Anniversary, FCD and FCM!!!

Up and about my day. Will be doing a double shift tomorrow and we’re taking advantage of Global Warming and heading to Erie for the weekend as soon as I get home Friday. So if I miss anything important hugs to whoever needs one.

Thanks, doggio!

It’s now been an hour and 15 minutes since I told my boss I need work. I guess I should be glad I can surf while waiting. I’d rather be doing something productive - at least that makes time move faster. ugh

I’m in LOVE!!!
With the most wonderful woman in the world! Her name is Luci! Allow me to share some of the details about her:
