A River Runs Through It: A Soggy MMP

My pregnant cow-orker and three other women (one one blonde between them) were talking about Preggo’s baby. I asked, ‘Are you sure it’s yours?’

They were talking (in jest?) about turning part of the basement into a nursery. Since I’m the only one down here, a cow-orker said I have to plan the decorations. I said, ‘A lot of black, and grey, and… [hunching up] a cool gargoyle that sits…’ and my cow-orker said, ‘On the crib?’ Exactly. That would be so cool.

I put in a maintenance request because the water in the tub is hard to turn on. To my surprise, the guy was here in about 10 minutes! He spritzed some WD40 (which I could’ve done if I hadn’t lost the little straw thingie.) and said if it’s not easier to turn by tomorrow, he’ll come back and replace some parts. My friend came over to chat and clean. She’s taking me for the surgery on Friday.

Believe me, I was worried, too. Right now I’m just at concerned-level. Once I got past the office staff and to actual medical people, everything sped up, and these folks seem MUCH more competent. I got a call from a nurse this morning with the pre-op instructions. Thursday night, I have to shower with Dial soap, then get into fresh, clean pajamas and into a bed made with fresh, clean sheets. Nothing about what clothes to wear Friday, so I guess those can be dirty.

Sari, sounds like you’re having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. I hope that’s all the annoying, frustrating stuff you have to deal with for a long time.

Best of luck in your interview, nut! Fingers and toes all crossed. Am working on earlobes.

Bumba, don’t you miss repair shops? Remember when you could take your toaster or vacuum cleaner or TV to a shop, and for a reasonable fee, they’d fix it so you could keep using it? Vacuums would last 20 years or more. Sigh.

cookie, wow, that’s pricey. Now I remember why I had to rent a truck to move out here.

flyboy, somewhere there are goth parents who are going to steal your gargoyle idea.

Good on you for getting the surgery thing straightened out nellie.

Good luck shoe!

bumba, that’s what I found out when my last vacuum went belly up. I’m thinking that my next place should be one with no carpet.

The trashy cow-orker didn’t call in today and didn’t come in. One of the others called to check up on her and told her to call the Covid line pronto. Don’t know if she did, but frankly, if she doesn’t, she would be no great loss to the company.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

For the third time in 10 years, I was pulled over by a state trooper for a burned out light - this time it’s the light over the license tag. I had just turned into our neighborhood and the flashing lights came on. I had a feeling it was for that bulb - I knew it was dead. Shame on me. I guess I need to get one tomorrow.

Always something…

Evening all. Managed to avoid nappage so should sleep soundly tonight (probably wake up at 5am anyway…). Mail brought my new passport, only took them about 2 weeks instead of the 7 weeks they said was normal, so I must have hit a slow patch in the processing. Put it in a big red envelope and put that in my box of semi-important stuff, so I’ll definitely be able to find it when travel time comes. So now I’m good until 2032, or when I’m 78-79 years old; we’ll see if I’m still a traveling man by that time.

FCM, never been pulled over for a bad light; don’t know if I’m just lucky things don’t burn out or the Merryland troopers are bored…

nellie, sounds like you got things squared away, hope Firday goes according to plan. Let’s hope the water works fine so you can get cleaned up nicely for the surgery.

Bumba, think I agree with wife-unit, fix the stove before you leave.

OK, dinner is assimilating in my belly and the room is nice and warm, so all is right with the world. All y’all take care.

Howdy Y’all! I kinda fussed at my doc and the PA today. I reminded them that they are the ones who say I need to take the meds I was tryin’ to get refilled, so they are the ones that need to call in the ‘scripts and should be able to do so without me needin’ to remind 'em of the fact. I have to say that felt kinda good. Oh, I got my ‘scripts refilled today. Go Me! The fun thing about havin’ all this med stuff online is that I can go to the patient portal anytime I please and quote chapter and verse all the notes from a visit. I may be old and decrepit, but I know how to use the intartoobz dagnabbit! Other than that, sloth, nappage and sup were managed.

Nuts appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed re the interview for A Thing.

Nellie glad things are all lined up for your surgery on Firday. Good on you for stayin’ on top of everybody.

Everybody else, I read all, but have the retention of a gnat with ADHD, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around as needed.

Hey swampy, have you seen the news about Golden Corral (aka Hog Trough? You guys have to stop bein’ so rowdy!

So a less chaotic day today. Plus, someone left 4 martini glasses in the Freecycle Zone. So if Shiva shows up for cocktails, I’m set.

Reminds me of the one time I was at IHOP at 0300. Two guys and a girl started a big argument. And as the manager was throwing them out, an old dude in the back yells “Y’ALL CALM DOWN, THIS AIN’T THE WAFFLE HOUSE!”

: crosses appropriate and inappropriate appendages for Nut’s Thing :

Ding ding ding we have a winner!

Love you all. Be safe everyone.

today was a good day …my uncle finally got 2 days in a row off so he came up yesterday we took 100 back in cans went to the Chinese hog trough and he finished the Xmas shopping he didn’t get to do months ago which is even better because everything was on sale … went to Michaels for crayons and a coloring book … tip he could have saved 10 bucks by going to Walmart but the lot was full and Michaels was next door and empty

but I bought an interesting gray market device which is basically a hard drive with controllers that hooks up to the tv supposed to have almost every game system made up to about 2010 and all the games …We’ll see what it actually does …

all in all a nice day

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Yet again, I dreamed about the last Fed job I had before retiring… sorta. There was nothing in the dream that reflected the actual place where I worked or the people there, but in the dream, that’s where it was. The big mystery in the dream - I kept printing documents, but I never could figure out where they were being printed. That actually was a problem at the last place I worked - you had to be careful which printer you designated for your job.

Anyway, I woke at 5 to find FCD wasn’t there - he woke earlier and had already tended to Higgs and was watching TV. I honestly can’t recall the last time he got a full night’s sleep, poor guy. I think he’s going to try to do some work in his shop today - getting things cleaned up and organized - I guess that’s a sign he’s starting to feel a bit closer to normal, or maybe he’s faking it.

I’m hoping Roxy goes to school today - she really needs the interaction with other than family, not to mention the routine. And I would prefer to watch the baby alone. So we’ll see…

Don’t forget to have sausage for supper - it’s Groundhog Day!!

Happy Wednesday!!

Morning, mumpers! It’s 10C/50F and cloudy today. Can’t say if the temps are right 'cos I haven’t been outside, but I can see clouds and no sun…

Nut fingers and eyes crossed for your Thing! Hope it goes well and you wow them with what an amazingly interesting person you are

nellie good to hear that the medics are more competent than their office staff, that should stop the need for such concern. Fingers and eyes crossed for successful surgery too.

Not much to report from here today - went grocery shopping last night, 90% of the customers were unmasked mouth-breathers so we were glad to get out quickly. Poorly is broken, so now comfortably strapped up with cotton wool and plasters. I checked out our NHS website and don’t fit the criteria for an A&E visit - not my big toe, not hanging off at a funny angle, can’t see any bone sticking out. Thus strapping, and rest, are all that’s required. And copious amounts of tea, of course.

It does mean I get an extra day working from home which has confused me because it’s Wednesday and I’m usually on campus. So now I have to keep reminding myself it’s not Thursday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 49 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 77 and mostly cloudy for the day. Way too warm for this time of year, but this happens from time to time. Rain shows up on Firday and then temps go back to more normal. We shall procure provisions today. Sup shall be pancakes and snausages because today is Ground Hawg day. Get it? Ground Hawg. OK, MOOOOOOM already made the same joke.

kayT 'round here that might happen if they run out of fried chikin or catfish filets. Seriously though, like doggio said, calm down, this ain’t Waffle House!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the public attire. Alack and Woe!

Happy Hump Day Y’all! Eat snausages!

I was surprised how foggy it was when I went to fetch Toby. I also noticed THREE vehicles with a headlight out. Where are the diligent State Troopers who stopped me?? Harumph!

That’s all. For now.

thems brawlin words lol I have a cravin for catfish now

The snow has started. It’s a little underwhelming, but I’m sure to be whelmed later. Plus, I’m pretty sure there’s ice under the snow, so it’s still somewhat dangerous.

I’ve got to remember to stop sending work emails after 6 or 7 p.m. An issue got escalated to me last night around 9 and I responded to an email and had to resend it after realizing the previous email I’d sent completely failed to demonstrate that I knew what the issue was. Oops.

Anyway, kids are home for a snow day, probably tomorrow as well and possibly Friday since the snow’s not supposed to stop until tomorrow late afternoon. I’ve got a brisket in the fridge that I’ll chuck in the oven for dinner. I don’t make beef very often and have only managed a brisket twice in my life; hopefully this’ll work out.

Morning all. Woke at 7:45am to rain, and the forecast says it’ll be around for most of the day, so it’ll be a good test of if I can make it to the gym or not, while I’m trying to establish it as a habit. Only 50F heading to 55F, so a little cooler.

boo fae, I’m a bit surprised, this being Ali-bama, but most of the customers are being pretty good about masks, even in Wal-Mart. Maybe it takes 2 years to get something through to folks… And hope Poorly (??) gets better.

OK, need to finish the morning internet and be off to get fit (or something). All y’all take care.

I’m really getting fed up with waking up at 0400 every day fretting about everything we have to get done in the next 2.5 months.

Today I thee the thumb therapist for a third thumb therapy thession. It may be the last session, as I don’t know what else she can do for me. I’m doing the exercises and keeping the splint on most of the time. Whether things are getting any better is hard to say.

Then it’s back to work on clearing out the garage, while the Ms works on getting rid of paper; lots and lots and lots of paper.
