A River Runs Through It: A Soggy MMP

I will have FCD here to help as much as he can. And I have a secret weapon - my tablet has a kid’s Monster Truck game on it that Roxy loves. But that’s only a desperation move.

Woke ahead of my alarm, which really is a good thing. I’m showered, dressed, fed, and waiting for the word that daughter has left for work. We meet in the parking lot outside her classroom and the kids get shuffled from one car to the other. One of the teachers at Roxy’s school is doing a Zoom session for her class at 9 - I just need to figure out how to set up Zoom on my tablet. It doesn’t work on my computer since I have neither microphone nor camera. Anyway, that’ll provide a little break, theoretically.

We went to the gym yesterday - FCD wanted to do some exercises in their therapy pool (it’s heated, plus separate from the local swim team doing laps.) While he was doing that, I made the rounds of the machines for upper body stuff - I have weenie arms and terrible strength. I made a note of the weight I used on each machine, and I’ll make an effort to increase both weights and reps as days go by. It didn’t take me long (don’t want to overdo it) and I spent the rest of the time on a bike, reading. We hope to do that 3X a week.

So, let’s see - kidlet wrangling, Zoom, scanning and sending docs to the accountant, and I got a hunk o’cow yesterday that I think will be sous vided for supper. Looks like I’ve got a plan.

Happy Tuesday!

Good morning everybody.

It’s 37 degrees with an expected high of around 45. Partly cloudy with some spots of sun, moving to mainly cloudy will be the order of the day.

Bumba, glad you’re still going to be around! I would miss you!

shoe, I am in your corner. You’ve got this.

We’ve (as in my husband) promised the kids we’d take both kids overnight so they could have a proper getaway. I cringed internally because Adam is into everything and doesn’t sit still. The cast hasn’t slowed him down a bit! Zoe is used to coming here by herself and getting special Grandma and Grandpa time. There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth. Fortunately, she seems to know now when she just needs quiet time (so like her Grandma) and will settle happily into her nest on the couch with her tablet to watch Cocomelon or play games. Still, we’re utterly wiped when she leaves, I don’t know how we’ll manage both. But, we’ll do it. We haven’t planned the date yet, but it’s coming.

Nellie, I hope you get the test results in time. Grrrrr to people not checking their voicemails.

MetalMouse, glad you had a good first day at the gym. I would seriously like to join the Y again (we have a nice one here), but I have a really difficult time exercising and wearing a mask. I fully and firmly believe people need to be wearing masks, but it becomes super difficult for me when I’m panting like crazy. I know people can do it, but I haven’t been able to do it very successfully. I’ve tried, but I actually start feeling ill and get the prickly sweats after about a solid hour of exercise and wearing a mask. When I’m at the park doing my miles, I don’t wear my mask, but keep well away from people and slip it back on if it seems like I am going to be too close to people as I pass them. So, until I can actually wear a mask while exercising hard, I won’t be joining the Y or any gym. I don’t foresee mask-wearing going away for a good long time. I can wear my mask for normal walks around the store, etc; just not hard, physical work, or hard exercise.

As predicted, my workday was super busy and it’ll be the same today.

I ordered my tests through the fed site and haven’t received them either. This morning, I was able to order some through the state site (one kit per household), so we’ll see which, if any, get here first.

I’m glad the water woes were fixed, Doggio.

butters, I’m so glad to read that your leg is doing better!

Morning all. It’s 43F out heading for a balmy 64F but rain is assured for tomorrow say the Weather Wizards. So after swimming, I’ll go to the Verizon store to learn more about phones, and then stop and pickup my TurboTax package so i have something to do for a wet day.

Woke up from a disturbing dream; was heading to a Black Baptist service with others (undefined) when a kid was corrected for playing with an elevator. Looking like a demented anime character, he stabbed the woman to death screaming “bring me back my mother!” before I woke up. Have no idea where that come from, I don’t like or watch horror movies so just hope that cleaned out all the bad juju in my head for the year. Weird.

Taters, FCM, good luck with the Grandmama duties. Sounds like you’ll have a handful.

shady, I used to be the same way, but the sting is much worse in the imagining than it is in real life. You might want to get it and not look.

OK, pills taken so need to break my fast here in a bit and then see if I can find my swim trunks. FCM, I worked mostly on my legs at the gym (referee soccer is my main activity), but will explore some of the upper-body things next time.

All y’all take care.

I’ve worked out, now working. It’s supposed to be about 60 here today, then a big old winter storm that’s supposed to dump about a foot of snow sometime tomorrow. Of course, it’s all supposed to be gone this weekend when it gets back up into the 40s. Pretty typical for the area. The kids are already super excited for a snow day. I hope they get one. Mostly because that means I get to sleep ‘til 7, which would be fabulous. One of these days when I’m not managing others’ health conditions I shall have to take some time off. I’ll tell absolutely no one and go somewhere quiet to stare at a wall.

Best of luck to you, shoe! You will be amazing, as you always are.

Hugs to all who need them - or even if you don’t.

I love all y’all. About to slap on some serious makeup (because someone is on the schedule) and go do this thing again today.

… oh, and apparently, there’s a heavy-duty storm on the way, in the next couple of days. Might have to shovel the driveway again. Like some peasant.

Looks like you and I are in the same forecast band: limited to minor impact. Here’s hoping for no snow to shovel for both of us.

This cracked me up!

Roxy is jealous of the attention I must give her brother. It’s been a challenging morning. But both have been fed and it’s temporarily quiet. And their mom will reclaim them in about 3 hours. So there’s the goal…

Happy Toosday!

Actually, it’s been an annoying Toosday.
Started last night when I didn’t get off irk on time. I irked almost an hour past quitting time. I didn’t get to bed until after 10. My son called me at 1 to say he was done irk. He was upset that it took me 35 minutes to get there, it’s usually 20 minutes, but I had a hard time getting moving.
If he got his damn license, he wouldn’t have to wait for me at all.
I woke up at 630 and started to get dressed for the park when I felt something wet on my arm. Blood all over my arm and leg, and dripping on the floor. I cleaned all that up.
We left to go to the park and Echo wanted to be a brat and wouldn’t let me put the leash on her. She’d dart off as soon as I got close to her. So, I thought screw her, she can stay home. I let Ripple out the gate and he took off into the neighbor’s yard. Then he wouldn’t get in the truck.
I thought I don’t have time for games today, so we’re not going. I was out there for 10 minutes, I’m done. And irritable.
Echo has pulled that crap before, but never for that long.

Of course, they will never put 2 and 2 together and figure out that we didn’t go because of their behavior, but it’s cold, 18 degrees, and I am not in the mood for bullshit.

Today I have to finish everything I didn’t get done yesterday.
Which is over half the list. I’m still carrying around a check my mother gave me for Christmas. My mail, that was about a foot high and got whittled down to three inches, is back up to six inches. I never let mail pile up and the stack annoys me. My son, and I appreciate it, put the groceries away. However, that means I can’t find anything and need to put the pantry back into some kind of order. He puts things where ever he can find room. I put like things together with all labels facing forward.

The dogs are being so bad. They have so much energy and don’t know what to do with it.

What had you bleeding? That’s a bit scary.

Afternoon all.

Hope everyone’s all stocked up for their French Toast fixin’s if there’s a storm due. Stay warm.

I just found out the official interview for A Thing will actually be tomorrow, not in a couple of weeks as expected. I need to do a presentation about myself- a thing I hates doing with a mortal hatred.

I did know I’d likely have to do something along those lines, and it’ll be good to get it over with, but- aaaah, short notice! I should obviously be getting on with either my course-irk which is due in a few days, or the presentation, but equally obviously, I’m busy panicking on here about not having enough time instead.

Coffee is an adequate substitute for sleep for a week or so, right? :grimacing:

If anyone has fingers warm enough to cross tomorrow, it would be appreciated!

:crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3: Done, gladly!

Sari, what made you bleed? That sounds like a nightmare. Or horror movie. Or that one time I ran through a glass door and cut open my hand when I was a kid.

It looks like one of the dogs scratched me, although I don’t remember them doing it. It doesn’t hurt, but sure bled a lot.
I take an aspirin a day to thin my blood, so I do bleed easily. Although it was much worse when I was taking Plavix. For me it’s more annoying than scary.

Running through a glass door does sound scary.

Crossing fingers for you Nuts.

I used to ask my sister if she absolutely sure that she wanted to watch all 4 of our kids together, and she would laugh, and laugh, and laugh, and then remind me that she’s a kindergarten teacher and only 4 kids was a day in the park for her.

shady I hope they don’t either. As your friend, I hope you get vaccinated, but I don’t think the state ought to condition your aid on it.

nellie getting everything pulled together before a medical procedure is a pain in the patoot. I’m sure it will work out. We could pull the spiders with spears out of storage and send them over if necessary. :smiling_imp:

Right? I mean, do Pit Bosses shovel?! Yeesh. OK. They apparently do. Humph.

Sari The blood sounds scary. I’m glad you’re ok.

Nut Everything is crossed! Good luck with the THING! :four_leaf_clover:

I’m tired, but will hopefully wake up after more coffee. It’s very windy here today. No rain in the forecast and we’re looking down the barrel of another drought year.

Take care out there.

We’ve updated our company website, and it has photos of all 13 of us here. I’ve just noticed that out of the nine women, all five Caucasian women are blondes. Weird, eh?

nelliebly , after that surgery story you told I’d be worried about the care I’d be getting, if their schedule is screwed up like that.

Afternoon all. I have, for once, been busy and moderately productive. Bought my TurboTax CD at Staples, then stopped by the Verizon office, where I got a good (no a great) offer for a new $600+ phone for only $80. In fact it sounds so good I need to research it some, skeptical me, but if I don’t find a problem with it, I think I’m going to do that. Plus the ladies were both helpful, understanding, and cute…

Filled up gas tank ($75.01) and then went swimmin’ at the Gym. Did 4 laps (100 yards), then sat in the whirlpool for a bit, then went back and did another 100 yards (all backstroke) and then sauna’ed for 12 minutes. So feel pretty good and not too tired (we’ll see if nappage catches up to me). Tomorrow is Gym day, maybe try some of those upper-body weights FCM mentioned.

Got home to find out my flight to Seattle in May (for the cruise I’m taking with friends) has been changed, about 90 minutes earlier (no sleeping in), but getting there 3 hours earlier, so that’s ok. Probably will change 2-3 times more.

Nut, have crossed all appropriate and inappropriate appendages, good luck on the interview.

Sari, hopefully dogs will begin to put it together, especially if it happens again in a short time. Dogs are wonderful, but sometimes you have that last never and they get on it. And hope the bleeding is OK.

Hope the storm isn’t too bad for those caught in it; it’s due to start raining here in N. Ali-bama Wednesday morning and the chances for rain don’t go below 50% until 2am Firday.

OK, onward into the afternoon. All y’all take care.

Thank all of you very much for telling me you’re glad I’m not gonna die (soon). It means more to me than you know. It may not seem like it sometimes, but I love you too.

I may not have said so earlier, Shoe, but you’ve got this. In a couple of months being pit boss wlil be old hat for you. You’ll prolly be bored with it.

Good luck with your interview Nut. BTW, where do you see yourself in five years? (ducks and runs). :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

We’re gonna go buy another vacuum cleaner today. I snuck Vinnie out for his walk last night while Wifey distracted Gibbs. He so wants to go, but can’t walk much on his hurt leg, and feels so bad for being left behind. Anyway, when we got back Wifey told me the vacuum wasn’t sucking. Actually it was, but the brush on the front wasn’t going around. I took it apart as much as I could figure out but couldn’t get to the part that moves the belt that rotates the brush. We checked, and it’ll cost about as much to get it fixed as it will to buy a new one. We hate to be part of our throw away society, but whatchagonnado?
Also the bottom heating element on our stove stopped working last week. We paid $75.00 for that stove (used) some years ago, but it’s annoying. We were gonna leave it with this house, but Wifey thinks we oughta fix it.

If it isn’t one thing, it’s two.

Well, I’d better get after it. All y’all take care.

Had the mover in here to do an estimate. The cost of shipping has gone up quite a bit since the last time we moved (12 years ago) and will likely run us about $20K. Ouch.

I bought a Shark Liftaway and really like it. Easy to use, easy to clean, well-engineered.

The grands have gone home. Steak is sous-vide’n, and I have a spud and sweet spuds in the oven to bake. Steamed broccoli will round the menu. And I may saute some onions.

The quiet is wonderful. Roxy was having a day - I had to give her a time out, then her mama did the same when she got here. I think mostly she was tired because she doesn’t normally get up at 6. I foresee an early night for her.

FCD went to the gym to swim and do some leg exercises. We’ll go tomorrow when we drop Toby off, assuming Roxy goes to school. I hope so. But I’ll deal with what I have to when the time comes.
