Ah, summer. When the Sun doesn’t set still after the evening news.
I spent all day giggling at “A Bit of Fry & Laurie” videos. I lurves me some British humor.
The sun never sets on the British Empire because G-d does not trust an Englishman alone in the dark.
But mad dogs and Englishman go out in the noonday sun…
Back yard watered, so I am expecting rain tomorrow (never fails). Actually remembered to take my typhoid-immunization medicine this morning, next dose is on Sunday (they make you skip a day, I do not know why).
Otherwise a very “not-doing-a-damn-thing” sort of day.
We are retirin’ to the boudoir to watch teevee etc until sleepy time arrives. I have a feelin’ sleepy time will come soon for me cause I’s tahrd! Plus we must get our beauty rest so we can be gracious hosts for tomorrow’s cee-mint pond soiree.
Nitey Nite Y’all!
When my car was struck by a hit and run driver 5/17 I got a call from the insurance agent reminding me that since I just had liability insurance there would be no renumeration there. Now she has called back with the news that the H&R driver. whose insurance company and policy appears on the police report, doesn’t actually have a policy with that company or that number. So I’m screwed and willhave to start looking for a new car on my own.
Since my job is not going so well just now, due to conficts with the kitchen manager, I’m keeping it together by saying, or reminding myself, that I have just four more years until I can start SS benefits at the higher level.
At least my dog loves me. He showed this by chewing on my new shoes, something he hasn’t done in years. Also, when I answered the phone today, he stole the greater part of my meatball sub off of the TV tray. Well, the first two paragraphs are bad, but I truly do love my dog. He doesn’t judge me, just snuggles up to me when I’m feeling down.
I worked. I started training the new shift supervisor. She should do good, at least unitl she quits or gets fired. Apparently all the traffic in the state drives past my store on the way to the beach Memorial Day. Next holiday, I take the log way home on the Beltline.
Yeah, Sunday is my only day off next week(admittedly spreading 37 hours to cover 6 days makes for shor days, but still…)
Welcome back, Fonz!
Could be worse. I woke up screaming once, because Lucretia D. Hellcatt was trying to chew a hole in my skull.
I loved them in Jeeves and Wooster
I even bought a bowler for Convention.
Glad you feel better, FCM.

An exciting day of yard work scheduled for tomorrow. Maybe will grill something for dinner. Not enough of a mood to seriously smoke anything much.
Many hugs all around!
Baker, I don’t know how it works in your state, but around here we are required to carry some level of uninsured motorist coverage - maybe worth reading your policy?
My middle aged brain likes to play the Earworm Game with me these days:
Brain: “You know that one song? The one you don’t like and only know four words of?”
Me: “That one that hit number 38 on the Top 40, in 1977? And then disappeared like cheesecake at a late night kitchen rendezvous on the Golden Girls?”
Brain: “Yeah, that one!”
Me: “Um, why do you ask?”
Brain, for the next four hours: “Oh Mandy! You [mumble mumble] and you [something] without [whatever the hell.]”
…
…
…
Brain: “Let’s try something new!”
Me: “In the name of everything holy, yes!”
Brain: “Rrrrrrico! Suave!”
Me: “Has anyone seen the icepick?”
Meanwhile, back at Stately Matata Manor…
Dramatic week.
Tony had a pre-surgical EKG Tuesday. Referral to the cardiologist next week. The GP was professional and reassuring, but used the words “apparent blockage.” Trying to stay positive.
The girls finished kindergarten and ninth grade. The boy finished high school and his apprenticeship. Graduation this morning at ten AM. I have about 3 boxes of tissue in my purse. (Judging by my performance at his fifth grade graduation, I probably need a bottle of electrolyte drink to stave off dehydration.)
Seating for the graduation ceremony is limited to 8 tickets per graduate. So I’m hosting a little lunch for the friends and family who couldn’t be invited. My mom has done the Classic Mother thing of adding folks to the list: “You can’t invite Aunt Irma without inviting Aunt Bernice. So you need to invite your cousin Sharon, since Bernice doesn’t drive any more. And if you invite Sharon, of course you have to invite her husband and daughter. And…” (I finally had to cancel our first reservation and change venues, because the restaurant could accommodate the original 20, but not 30.)
Plus I decided to surprise my mom by inviting my former foster sister and her graduating son and younger daughter to have lunch with us - they have no family. Bless her heart, after I nagged half to death and submitted a final head count to the hotel on Tuesday, Janet RSVPd Friday. With plus-2.
And then my dear husband nearly gave me a heart attack, by assuming that I knew that his Los Angeles based brother was in town. I spent about 8 frantic hours trying to scrounge up a ticket, and added him to the head count, before my mother in law called today and said no, Favorite Brother in Law flew back to California Tuesday.
And we’ll probably see the first rain bands from the tropical storm by the time we finish lunch.
I have offered all of my children cash if they will agree to elope when the time comes.
Non-kid news: a multi-county high speed chase ended a couple of miles away this afternoon, when the driver crashed into my grandma’s late sister’s front yard. Said driver is down at the county jail, but her passenger is still on the lam, despite the helicopters and dogs and such. A couple of hours after I got the BOLO alert, an unfamiliar car pulled up at the vacant house next door, then pulled through the back yard and parked by the barn. Meanwhile, I’m frantically sending messages to the daughter of the late owner, because I don’t know if we have a desperate escapee waiting for his getaway driver, or whether one of the heirs has bought a new car. (It was older daughter, who traded in the mini van last week.) I’ve turned into Mrs. Kravitz.
But the very protective dog is spending the night in the back yard kennel tonight - I’m still feeling a little jumpy.
Kopek, I’m in the mood to smoke something right about now. But living with a narcotics K9 makes that problematic!
(Not really. I did the usual college experimentation, but gave up quickly. Not my cup of tea. But I wouldn’t say no to a large cocktail when I get home after lunch.)
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Hopefully a shortish day at work today.
Sounds like you’re adjusting to this retirement thing quite nicely! Well done!
**Peaches **- all I can say is GOOD GRIEF!!! Hope all the craziness resolves itself.
My curmudgeonly side would be thrilled not to be invited to a graduation of any sort - OK, I might like to see a Navy boot camp graduation, just for old-times’ sake, but that’s it. Anyway, it boggles my mind that anyone would *want *to attend a long ceremony where they only know one person involved. Even when my niece graduated from her small, private high school and there were maybe 25 graduates, I felt like it took too long. And I won’t even mention the fiasco when my daughter graduated from UCF… Good on you for being accommodating!
**Baker **- we lurves ya! And except for a couple of shifty characters, I don’t think any of us would steal your meatball sub, so there’s that! Hang in there…
I’ve breakfasted and I’m caffeinating. I need to dress and drag the push mower out to the ditch before the heat sets in. I do NOT want to do it, but it’s gotta be done and there’s no way **FCD **is getting anywhere near a mower. I’m giving serious thought to contacting a lawn guy just to get an estimate. I don’t mind driving the riding mower around, but walking back and forth on a slope is hard on the ankles and knees. Even when we get the bottom of the ditch done, the slopes will remain.
wondering again why we decided against a condo…
Happy Saturday, all!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 66 Amurrkin out and sunny with a predicted high of 89 and sunny for the day. Perfect weather for cee-mint pond time.
I shall clean the smoker shortly and then begin prep for today’s festivities. Folks will start arrivin’ around elevenish for cee-mint pond time. There will be snacky stuff that will suffice for N.O.L. We shall have dindin around fiveish and hopefully everybody will go away by sevenish this evenin’. Company, love to see their faces when they arrive, and love to see their butts when they leave.
{{{CupCakes}}} it will all get better. FWIW I wouldn’t have stolen your meatball sub.
{{{Peaches}}} congrats to the graduate and hope you survive the N.O.L. A large cocktail or six of your choice should be enjoyed after it’s all over.
OK, I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, the smoker shall be cleaned and then da bear shall be cleaned and festivities shall commence.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Push mowing is done - mostly. I just don’t have the *oooomph *left for the corner slope - later or tomorrow, I’m thinking… As soon as my pulse gets close to normal and the sweat stops pouring down my face, I’ll saddle up ol’ John and finish mowing the ride-able areas.
And it ain’t summer yet. ugh.
Happy Saturday!
Not really happy, but it is Saturday.
I slept like hell last night, so a big grumpy today.
Not much planned except half watching the Columbo marathon. A little, or maybe a lot of irk.
Mowage is done. I’m showered and dressed appropriately for going to the grocery store. Cat box has been scooped. And it’s not even 10:30!! Go me!!
I may take my sweetie to lunch when going to the grocery store. But for now, I shall chill a bit.
The smoker is all cleanded up. When it’s all dry inside I shall put the innards back in it and ‘twill be all ready for next time. I am also all cleanded and sittin’ here in tshirt and bathin’ suit. I am soakin’ up some a/c for now cause I got hawt outside. I expect revelers to arrive soonish and cee-mint pond time to begin shortly thereafter.
Just back from a quick run to Food Lion. I was going to get some Amish strawberries while I was out, but the Amish are closed today! Lots of buggies on the road headed… somewhere. I’m guessing maybe a wedding rather than a funeral, since those I saw were in pastels instead of somber tones.
Anyway, I got what I went out to get, plus some extras, as usual. While in line to check out, CVS called that my meds were ready for pickup. As it happens, CVS is across the street from Food Lion, so that worked out.
I just ate a slice of leftover Hawaiian pizza and I’m noshing on the last of the Wheat Thins. In a bit, I’ll clean the berries, then mash up a batch for jam. Not sure if I’ll make it today or tomorrow - depends on how I feel when I get them mashed. Jammin’ is a hot chore, but it doesn’t take long, so there’s that. It’s the prep that takes a while.
So I’ll surf a little more, then decide what to do.
About the only productive activity planned for the day is running the dishwasher. A certain spoiled brat cat rousted me to serve breakfast, otherwise I’d still be in bed.
At least the coughing seems to be calming down.
Happy Saturday!
I’m at the dealership waiting for my oil to be changed and brakes to be installed. I went to Dragon Park for the brunch. I got some nice strawberries, stuffed them with sweetened cream cheese and topped them each with a blackberry for something that was both seasonal and in a red, white and blue color scheme.
When I get home, there’s laundry and housework to do so I can go riding tomorrow.
