Three cheers for Rosie’s new digs! The only drawback to living among old people is that they turn their teevees up real loud. But they go to bed early.

It has been raining hard for almost 24 hours. Roads are flooded, schools closed because the buses can’t get down streets. One town south of here has already racked up 8 inches (that’s what she said) with more to come. This is one of the times I’m thankful my townhouse is on a slab. On the upside, the drought is over!

Well crapola,

The fertilizer plant that blew up here in Texas is at one of my favorite road stops, the Czech Stop. Awesome kolaches. This sucks monkey butts

Capt

Yeah, I don’t know how many times I’ve driven past there.

All I can think of is a book I read by one of the first real forensic pathologists, the guy who started the Body Farm at the University of Tennessee. He was called in when an illegal firework factory had exploded. They needed help with identifying the pieces of the bodies. There were no whole bodies. He said he kept count by tagging every left leg that was recovered. If it was shaved, he assumed it had belonged to a woman. If not, it counted as a man’s.

I hope to God it’s not as bad at this one.

Blurf.

A coworker brought it a couple big boxes of strawberries. He said he has like ten palettes at home that someone gave him. I may eat myself sick. I have two more berries sitting next to me that I’m not eating until my blood sugar normalizes.

That’s exactly what I thought blurf looked like,** VunderBob**. Thanks for the visual.

So did the plant blow up and take out the restaurant? I’m trying to imagine a restaurant next to a fertilizer plant in the first place. Must have been an olfactorily quiet sort of fertilizer, if the restaurant did good business.

ETA - Forgot to mention that the tomato soup worked out well enough that I tried mushroom soup for breakfast.

Leftover jambalaya for N.O.L. ‘Twas good. I have an appointment at one to get somebody started at a host agency. This always makes me happy. I like gettin’ folks in trainin’ positions and eventually in for real jobs. That’s the good part of irk. The bad part is it’s all a mountain of paperirk. Oh well, that’s what they pays me for.

Ok, off to check email and other stuff and then on my way!

Laterz!

Apparently the Czech Stop is aok and was serving food all night to rescue folks, it’s not really a restaurant just a gas station with a bakery next door. I don’t think that the plant was close, I don’t remember ever seeing it but I have kolaches on the brain when I am there. The kolaches are so good I probably wouldn’t notice hot chicks making out while on fire. That good.

Capt

Car back, repairs unaccountably substantially cheaper than quoted, financial panic temporarily averted.

Spent the day walking round the city, basically for 5 hours straight, as I said I’d help out stewarding for this random walkabout play thing. Now tahred, and have insufficent time to both nap and eat dindin before pottery class.

I’ll have plenty of sittin’ around time tomorrow though, I already booked a coach for the trip Oop North, as I didn’t want to leave it all last minute if the car wasn’t fixed (I was originally told it probably wouldn’t be fixed 'til friday evening). I’m not really sorry I’m not driving anyway, 'tis a long trip.

Yays, hugs etc to them what needs it.

Good to hear the kolaches are safe, and that the Czech Stop is at a suitable distance from the fertilizer makings. Now I’m going to have to find out what kolaches are.

(googling)

Looks like a flaky tart. And apparently Montgomery MN claims to be the “Kolacky capital of the world” and holds an annual festival known as Kolacky Days. Also there don’t seem to be any available in town. You may consider us deprived.

I’ve dated enough of those in my day.

You are sadly deprived. Kolaches here come from the large influx of Czech and German immigrants in the 19th century. There are many variations but in Texas the are generally a piece of sausage that is baked into a soft roll, sometimes with cheese. Kinda like a pig in a blanket but the sausage is completely encased. That may sound rather mundane but they are good and the Czech Stop’s are exceptional, soft, yeasty and just a tad sweet with a savory, lightly smokey sausage. The breweries here were started from the same group of folks.

Thus endeth the Texas food and history lesson

Jim

Every indy donut shop in Memphis serves those. Interestingly enough, they are usually owned by Vietnamese people.

Allergies are kicking my butt today. Maintenance M gave me a couple of Claritin and I’m going to get me a box of those tomorrow.

dies

He’s done!

Welp, via FB rumor mill, one of my more favorite neighbors from Cottonfield County died within the last hour or 2. He was in the horsepistol with pneumonia this week…

There may be another dash to NC in the very near future. He’s one that’s worth that kind of effort.

Just got back from getting Julian groomed. He is now sporting a lion cut, and it will probably damage his self-asteem, because he looks very silly. OTH, he is now the velveteen kitteh, with all his fur shaved.

Vet wants him to go on a diet. He weighed in at a hefty 28.5 lbs. She’s concerned about diabetes. So now I have to plan out the best way to feed two cats separately and keep Julian from snarfing down Mosby’s food in addition to his own.

It’s 82 here. I hate it. I want spring, dammit, not summer! (It looks like I get my wish next week.)

Sticky, how did Home Ec go?

Congrats, Rosie!

does another Snoopy dance

Thanks to Centron, I now know that calling someone “stinky” does not value The Other Fellow’s Feelings. I also know, thanks to McGraw Hill, that one must Sleep for Health.

Did you stick a fork in him just to make sure? YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY for DH!!!

{{{BBBobbio}}}

No OYKW tonight cause he’s still got tons o’ paperirk to deal with before the big audit. Poor thing. Thus, since I am sans adult supervision dindin was a PBJ (with strawberry jam) and N.O.T. chips. The poke chops I was goin’ to grill can wait until tomorrow night.

Irk was so tiresome today. I feel like I could go sleepy bye right now. Bear tahrd!

ETA: Spaz I am glad to see you are usin’ your spare time to learn better and healthy habits.

Are they hot because they’re good looking or hot because they’re on fire???

I know the term “Maintenance Man” as guy, who a female who is not in a relationship calls when she needs some, ahh, maintenance; therefore, I found your comment quite amusing!
