A Stormy MMP

Howdy Y’all! We have supped and cleanded up the kitchen. Now we await the presumed nasty weather that is on its way. It has been nasty throughout Alabammy. Reports say Selma got hit hard and that’s sorta west of us and the storms are comin’ from that way. It may be, though, that most of the nasty hits just north of us. We shall see.

Wordy hope all goes well with mom’s scan next week.

Nettie appropriate/inappropriate apppendages crossed re the job interview.

Oopsie I do like the BK chikin sammich as well. It’s the best thing on their menu, IMO.

Cookie ouchie on the toof doctor bill. Do y’all have dental insurance? Glad y’all enjoyed lobsterfest. I am not a big fan of lobster. It’s a taste/texture thing.

Yep! They close from 12:30 to 1:30!

OMG - that is the best batch of beef-barley soup I’ve ever made! I’m sure it’s because of the marinade. Except I didn’t have any balsamic vinegar, so I used red wine vinegar. Let the meat wallow in it for about 3 anna half hours, then put it in a corningware pan covered with foil and let it cook in a 190° oven for about 6 hours. Then I shredded it. This morning, I dumped it in a pot with onion, celery, diced ‘maters, a big sack o’ frozen mixed veggies, half a gallon of beef broth (stock?), a couple of bay leaves, a little more thyme, salt, and pepper, and it simmered for a bunch of hours. SOOOOOOOOOO good! And tons for the freezer and MIL.

Speaking of whom, I’m taking her grocery shopping tomorrow. It’s an interesting experience - I have to be her eyes, so I narrate as we go down the aisles and read labels for her. I figure it’ll take a couple of hours, depending on where she wants to shop. For someone who claims she doesn’t want to cook any more, she sure buys a lot of groceries.

But for now, chillage reigns!

Our pharmacy doesn’t “close” at lunch, but there is only one person working and they are not pharmacists so there is a bunch of stuff they can’t do.

I know I’ve given you guys a bad impression of our Nextdoor, but that’s because I complain about the small number of people who cause the most of the problems. Today someone posted that they needed a jump. I got the address and headed over but someone else got to them first.

I’m also paying someone to do a little yard clean up for us tomorrow. I found him on Nextdoor and he’s proven to be an excellent and reliable worker.

Little things add up.

I did something this evening that I have never done before. I changed into pajamas to slouch around the house for the evening. Primarily cuz I’z doing laundry and I wanted to get the sweaty jeans into the warsh. I gotta say…I prefer keeping the day clothes on. Makes the morning transfer of pocket items easier, the jammies are a bit more chilly, and I just feel odd.

Whelp, my mundane addition for the day.

FCM Your soup sounds great! Was that with the freezer burn casualty? Glad you could rescue it. Have you ventured into vacuum sealers? As a single dude, buying in grocery store quantities leads me to freezing stuff, and the vac-sealer saves me bunches of $$$.

Yeppers - marinade and low, slow cooking saved the meat!

And yes, I have a vacuum sealer and I love it!

nellie, you asked, so I shall respond. My cousin Scott is six months older than me. Growing up, the two of us were both chunky kids, so I wore his hand-me-downs for play clothes. At my grandparents’, their house sat at the top of a rise with the barn, chicken coops and a pasture down the hill. Scott was teasing Herkimer one day and Ol’ Herk had enough. He chased Scott from the pasture clear up to the house, nipping at his heels all the way. Once he was safely on the house side of the screen door, he yelled at him Herkimer, I’m gonna forkimer you, you old bird! Granny, Mom and the aunts were standing in the kitchen laughing at him all the while. A couple of years later, Scott had his chance when Herkimer wound up as Sunday dinner.

Moooooom, at Aldi and Kroger, the free range or cage free eggs have been cheaper than factory farmed ones for a while. Avian flu didn’t do as much destruction to those flocks. As far as tuning your hammered dulcimer, I recommend hiring a pro if it’s anything like tuning an autoharp.

My washer has no sound at the end of the cycle. The dryer has a rude buzz, but at least I can hear it from outside of my laundry room.

Finally, the blessed weekend. I took a nap when I got home from irk. I would have taken Nelson to the dog park, but the clouds opened up this afternoon, with a break long enough to drive home before resuming. It’s supposed to get cold this weekend.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Ever had one of those dreams where they were running the belt system from work through the N.C. State campus, and running loose laundry through it?

Crosses appropriate and inappropriate appendages :

Cookie, ouch!

The promised rain/tstorms/apocalypse showed up. Lots of rain and some loud booms, but it shall be done in an hour(ish). That’s the excitatement from south Jawja this evenin’. In other news, I feel sleepy. Rain does that to me.

doggio I just hate it when that happens. You’d think they would at least bundle the laundry. SHEESH!

Heard from @Sunny_Daze via PM. She’s OK, but has stuff going on and says she’ll be back when she can manage it.

Thank you. Wish her all the best from all of us.

Phew! Thanks.

Evening all. Another day of not getting to the gym (I really need to get back into that habit) and let Whataburger feed me. Have to get up early tomorrow, my car is due for it’s 60,000 mile check (actually at 58,000, but close enough and the oil needs changing) and my appointment is at 8:30am. Also made an 8am appointment on Monday for Home Termite inspection, so need to remember to set the alarm clock tonight; I am going to need it. Still a little rain around, but it’s cooling (50F now heading for 35F tonight).

Did try on my ‘base clothing’ (basically fancy longjohns for cold weather) and they fit just fine, so that is one less thing to worry about for my trip. They also advised bring sunscreen (try finding that in Alabama in January–may wait until I stop in Miami). Also, one of the people at the travel agency I booked through will be on the same cruise and want’s to ‘interview’ me as a customer on the experience. There’s about 4-5 days of nothing but cruising, so I should have the time. Mostly for their own use, but maybe I’ll get a copy…

Seanette, thanks for the news on Sunny;I know we have all been a bit concerned. We’ll be here when she can come back.

red, thanks for the story.

VanGo, my normal housewear is a sweatshirt and sweatpants, but PJ’s often are in use in the summer months. What you are comfortable in.

FCM, congrats on the soup. And I think it is good you taking MIL out shopping; she needs to have something else on her mind at least for a little bit.

Swampy, glad you made it through the storms. Looks like the coastline all the way up to FCM’s is going to get dumped on.

OK, want to turn the heat up for a bit so I can take a bath (and not get the shivers when I get out). Catch y’all tomorrow (but late, after the car appointment).

Glad sunny’s OK.

I just finished up two commissioned cards. I couldn’t get the video of the shaker card in action to link, but here they are: Pop up front , Pop up inside , Shaker front

Good luck on the job interview Seanette. I’m sure they will love you, I hope you love them back.

Tonight we had free dinner. We always like doing that. We got a head of leaf lettuce and some tomatoes in our produce box so I chopped that up for a salad and snipped up some green onions (Buy a bunch of green onions and put them in a glass of water and then up on the windowsill. If you keep the water filled, you will be able to snip them for about a year before the bulbs outgrow the glass).

We got a couple of chickens in a box a while back and hubs smoked one a couple of days ago, so we had cold chicken to go with salad and I had some free french bread and butter and we both had tangerine slices for dessert.

They give us this food so it doesn’t go to waste, we do our best to not waste it. (Which is another reason for chickens, I could have given them all the fruit and veggie scraps and they would have been happy birdies.)

Today I tried again to sign up for the MOW grant workshop and didn’t get a call back so I guess my plan is to try again tomorrow and if that doesn’t work, just show up on Tuesday and charm my way in.

Despite not being eligible for subsidized meals at the community center, I know a lot of people depend on them so I’m going to do my best for the program. I have crashed many a party in the past and when I started pretending to be respectable, I started crashing fancy book readings (they serve fancy finger food and good booze). Crashing a free seminar at a public library will be a cinch. I just didn’t want to drive all the way to Prescott cause I’m all lazy and shit.

Hubs has a bad habit of putting stuff out on MY porch that needs to go to a shed or out to our box spot. All of the suitable boxes get put in my car for produce day, but we get our share of smaller boxes too. I got tired of looking at it today and took everything to it’s proper place. Hubs dragged a mini compressor out and cleaned the smoker, then left the compressor on MY table. I took it out to the shed.

This is how we keep losing stuff. I never use that compressor, I will never think about it again and hubs won’t look at the lower shelves next time he wants it and I will have forgotten all about it by then. (He’ll start fussing and grumping and I’ll go out and find it sitting right out in plain sight. We both know the steps of this dance very well.)

Seriously, is that rude or what?

I could send you some…do you want foil wrapped wipes, a spray bottle or lotion? How much SPF do you want, we don’t have anything here that is less than 60 SFP because it is kinda worthless in our sun.

I walked nine miles today. I got home later than planned because I stopped to help a homeless couple–long story I won’t go into except to say they didn’t ask for $$, which is good because I didn’t have any with me. So when I left the store, it was dark, and I had to turn on the Christmas lights on the babushka cart. So festive!

SOOOO relieved sunny is OK!

FCM, my mouth is watering. I bookmarked the marinade recipe.

VanGo, I wear PJ’s when I do laundry so no dirty item goes uncleansed. I wash my pj’s when I launder my sheets, so I’m in street clothes then.

red, I’m still laughing over, “I’m gonna forkimer you!” I may have to steal that. Thank you for sharing that great story! Where did the name Herkimer come from?

MetalMouse, I’m so excited about your trip! I’m out of sunscreen but do have some SPF30 makeup if you’re interested.

Mm, I’m gonna say no. Ever had one of those dreams where you’re teaching a bunch of high schoolers when you realize you’re not wearing clothes?

Howdy all! My friend arrived after a 12 hour trip that should have taken 8. Her GPS sent her way south and west when she should have got in I 10 then 95. Anyway she is here. Sonnyboy made burgers and fries. He makes a good burger.

Chicken story. My Mother, now deceased would not eat chicken because she was made to wring a chickens neck when she was young and it ran away looking backwards at her. She would cook chicken. For us but could not eat it.

I finally got my new mattress on my bed so we shall see. Also got Sonny to help hang pictures in my bedroom. I am only partially packed. Plan to finish it by Sunday. Terri, my friend I haven’t seen in over 30 years,is the same person though she looks different. She has lymphoma but is in remission. I started feeling better today. Had more energy. Thank OG.

Sonnyboy and Sherry are going to act as tour guides tomorrow since rain is expected. There is a place a little ways up the road where manatee congregate and we’re gonna try to see them. Gonna check out the beach and the port. We leave Moanday.

Wordy. Good vibes headed your way for your Mom’s scan.

Nettie here’s hoping y’all will get a break. I guess the drought is over.

Mom how is MIL handling her loss? And BIL and FCD? I am worried for MIL. Ppl that have been married that long often go soon after.

Doggiooo. Hugs just cause.

Stay safe everyone. Still no Sunny? I’m worried about her too.

She says she hopes to be back soon, offline life is keeping her busy. I’ll warn her to expect swarm tackle-hugs.

Seems like the whole state could be underwater and they’d still claim we’re in a drought.

The US National Weather Service’s Facebook page says we should expect heavy rain and wind starting tomorrow afternoon, with more intense conditions, including thunderstorms, due Saturday. Ugh.

GG just ran in the room and said Mello thar. I’m so happy he’s finally finding his voice, that little kitten whine was getting pretty annoying.
