A Stormy MMP

Can’t sleep, dunno why, so I’m listening to rain on the roof. Glad I get to stay warm and dry inside.

Get a small space heater for the bathroom. We did and it’s wonderful!

MIL is on a cleaning and organizing jag - my mom was the same right after Dad died. FCD really misses his dad - they had a close relationship. BIL’s response when told his dad died was “I thought he might.” Between his disability and his seizures, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised by this reaction. He’s an odd bird.

It’s midnight thirty - I should try to sleep…

I wanted you to know, this absolutely cracked me up.

Awwww. That’s sweet.

How’s he doing?

… how’d it go?

You are an amazingly good person. Do you know that? I hope you know that.

I died laughing. My English is a B.A. but my M.A. is journalism and for a long time … yeah, Cracker Jack box. 'Nuff said.

Monkey sends his cutest “Mellowww!” right back.

Won’t know until tomorrow afternoon Pacific time. The appointment’s at 11:30am. I did find shopping for interview clothes a bit frustrating. The Macy’s at the mall I went to doesn’t seem to believe in customer service. Shopping for shirts or jackets is always frustrating for me, because my shoulders and upper arms are a bit large for a woman my overall size. Get something that’s loose enough in those areas and it hangs on the rest of me like a tent, and time for tailoring (even assuming I can find someone to do it, I sure don’t have those skills) was not available. Did manage to find a suitable blazer and nice slacks and a shirt that isn’t horribly uncomfortable in the upper arms. They’re just going to have to cope with me wearing flats, since arthritic hips won’t tolerate the sway induced by heels.

Too bad GG and Monkey can’t meet and make friends in person. That would be epically cute.

As crabby as my two are lately, I have a Feliway diffuser on order (should get it tomorrow from the Jungle). It’s worth a shot.

It’s starting to rain (sigh). Buddy needs to get his orange rump inside so I can go to bed.

The same. He got a PICC line today. Trying not to worry. One of my students who was also my daughter’s classmate got meningitis. On a Wednesday, I let him keep his head on his desk because he had a headache. I never saw him again. Three days later, he was dead. I know my daughter is also thinking about that kid now. I’m sure most people survive. Beyond that, I’m afraid to ask.

Thanks so much for asking!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

To be fair, the suits were on one of those rolling racks from the dry cleaners.

Well, in that dream I didn’t have any quarters so I could do my laundry.

Yay!

: takes a bow :

Also, it’s Friday the 13th. So don’t go off by yourself and have sex in the abandoned camp where 30 people are butchered every year. And walk, don’t run. :open_mouth::axe:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 49 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 49 (yep, the high is also the low for the day) and cloudy. No big plans at all for the day except we shall go to the hog trough GC for the geezer special around twoish. Normally I would go to the church house for candle duty, but tomorrow we are havin’ our Epiphany party there from two until five, so we shall go over a little early so I can take care of that. We shall bring cheese thangs and Holy Moly dip for the party along with some beerverages to share cause we’re all nice like that, dammit!

Well there go all my plans for the day!

Nettie again, appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed re the job interview. Hope this next round of storms is not to bad on y’all.

JtC glad GG is findin’ his voice.

MOOOOOOM when my father died, my mom completely remodeled the house. She had wanted to for years, but dad didn’t. Then he developed AD and she thought it best not to do stuff that would disrupt his routine.

Butters glad your friend made it there safe and sound. Enjoy your visit together and the cruise!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy FIRDAY THE THIRTEENTH Y’all!

Adjusts schedule accordingly.

I got one of those hoping it’d mellow Taz. It didn’t. Hope you have better luck.

I think I got about 3 hours of sleep. Woke at 7 and that was that. Critters have been tended to and I’m having breakfast.

At some point, we’ll head to the apartment. FCD will take his brother’s car back, then hang out there while I take his mother shopping. I’ll let him come home with me. Any other plans depend on when we get home so I’ll figure it out then. It’ll be low 50s today with some rain this morning, then back to highs in the low 40s for the weekend. Feels like we switch seasons every 3-4 days.

No worries about sex in a campground - I’ve never camped. These days, roughing it would be a hotel that doesn’t have king size beds or free breakfast!

Happy Firday the 13th!!! :scream:

Good morning,

It’s currently 48 degrees, and light rain is falling. The expected high is 55, and it’s pretty much going to rain all day. Things are becoming downright mossy out this way.

I’m glad sunny responded to someone, and I look forward to seeing her when she’s ready. Send her my best when or if you correspond again.

I am sending my best thoughts for the little guy, nellie. That has got to be downright terrifying.

Seanette, sending my very best get-the-job vibes. I know you’ll knock it out of the park at the interview.

I don’t have a chicken story, but I have a swan story. When I was little, I lived in Germany, and we were visiting my Oma in her tiny town. It’s a little town called Dollnstein and is located in the Altmuhltal river valley, which is considered a park now. My Oma’s house was in the “old” part of the town (built in the 12th century with five-foot thick walls). It was a pretty small town then but has grown into a bit of a tourist destination now.

As the “American” Madchen, I ran all over that town, and not far from Oma’s house, there was a river with a bridge. Along the river, there were geese and swans. I was poking among the reeds and grasses near the bank and happened across an egg, and little me thought I could take it to Oma’s house, to hatch it, and have a pet. As I removed the egg, a swan happened upon me and chased me back to Oma’s house. When you’re four or five years old, swans are HUGE. At any rate, Oma did not keep the egg warm. She COOKED the egg. I was very upset with her.

butters, I’m glad your friend made it there safely, and I hope you enjoy your trip.

I don’t have anything on my agenda today, for once. I need to log onto my work laptop long enough to certify my timecard, but other than that, the day is mine.

I haven’t quite decided what I’m going to do. I may go out and run errands, or I may stay in and putz around in here.

I hope you all have a good day.

A short heave today. Now I gotta wait around twiddling my thumbs, since the likker sto and the fish counter at Teeter don’t open till 10.

Yesterday was, shall I say, interesting. The ground here is very soft and very clay like mud at the gate of the horses pasture. I put Ariel back in her pasture after riding and as I turned to leave my boots got stuck and I fell in front of her. As I am lying in the mud like a stuck turtle, her best friend sticks her nose up Ariel‘s butt. Ariel jumps over me which is very scary because all I see are horse hooves coming at my head, and Ariel runs out of the pasture. Fortunately she was the only one who escaped and the rest of the horses ran to the other side of the pasture leaving me still stuck in the mud. I managed to get up but fell again. By this time Ariel has run up and down and around . I looped the lead rope around the gate and heaved myself up literally covered in mud. I captured her. No damage was done but I had to drive home in my underpants because my britches were solid mud.

Fortunately I had long underwear on so I wasn’t totally nekkid on the drive home.

nellie, given that Pop (my grandfather) liked history, I’m guessing that it was for an historical figure. Not very many critters at his place got names if they had a chance to wind up on your dinner plate, but Herkimer and Mr. Nixon, a Wyandotte rooster (can you tell, Pop was a Democrat? :stuck_out_tongue: ) did. The dogs, cats and horses were named though.

Think we could get an online catroom for GG and Monkey JtC ?

swampy, I’ve never heard of an Epiphany party. Do you celebrate kind of like a birthday party?

Good luck seanette !

Up, caffeinating, a load of towels / throw rugs in the dryer, a load of jeans in the wash and fixing to do KP / Friday cleaning. Sybil has been in charge of the weather this week: I wore the wool coat to irk Tuesday morning, a denim jacket Wednesday, no coat yesterday and this morning, it was almost back to wool coat temps. No wonder tornadoes have been in some of our forecasts this week.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a whopping 7c/45f with a predicted high of 8c/46f out there, and partly cloudy. Which also means partly sunny. Weather app says “Today’s forecast: sunrise, sunset, and some fucking bullshit in between.”

Seanette best of luck with the interview, they cannot possibly not want you, just depends if you want them as much. Thank you also for passing on the news about @Sunny_Daze , there will be a mass of hugs waiting for her return!

butters enjoy spending time with your friend.

wetone that made me laugh far more than it should have done, glad you managed to get up and get home safely!

Taters I vote for a day of top-grade slothage, I think you’re due one of those.

Mooooom sending good wishes to the FairyChats, it’s a strange time for not knowing what you should be doing, and then feeling as if doing anything is wrong :frowning: I hope the shopping trip goes ok though, two hours for a grocery run is a lot.

Busy day here, hair is freshly dyed, laundry’s done, irk has been irked (and continues to be irksome), my turn to cook tonight so I’m making curry. Got to irk a bit tomorrow too so I’ve had to cancel my morning gym plans as I need to be logged in here for a while to cover exam submissions. Time and a half though, I’m not complaining.

Morning all. Have dropped off car and caught a shuttle ride home from the dealers, they say it’ll be there most of the day so I’m pretty much stuck here; glad I got the lottery tickets yesterday. Will be costly, they are doing a lot of 60,000 mile stuff, but since I usually only get it serviced 1-2 times a year (I drive less than 8,000 miles/year these days), it’s worth doing it, since I plan to keep it for at least 3 more years.

red it might be this Herkimer: Nicholas Herkimer - Wikipedia For some reason I remembered that name from my own history readings. And yeah, it was 64F yesterday here, and 34F this morning…brrrr.

wet one, quite a story and glad you’re Ok (outside of a a massive cleanup project). So Ariel’s friend stuck her nose up Areil’s butt…well, with all the stories about birds this MMP, I guess your horse getting goosed is totally appropriate…

nellie, that was a sad story about the student. Hope daughter’s story ends well.

Seanette, best of luck with the job interview. I’m sure you’ll look fabulous.

FCM, I have a space heater for the ‘office’ (it’s running right now). Never thought about one for the bath, may take a look around.

Butters, enjoy the company and hope you get to see the manatees.

OK, need to do some internettin’ and maybe some other stuff. Take care all.

wet one, that sounds both hilarious and terrifying. I’m so glad you’re okay.

Best of luck on the interview, Seanette - come back and let us know!

I’m very happy today is Friday, I’d intended to have a low-key weekend where we maybe went on a day trip, but instead we’re having a “high-key” weekend where we’ll be extra social, which is nice. Hopefully I’ll still get plenty of time to avoid people and/or clean. We shall see.

Went for a waddle with the neighbor lady again today. My legs are still blotchy from the cold and I got back about 3 hours ago and have been under a blanket ever since with the exception of when I took a (very hot) shower. It was still worth it. Next time I’ll wear an additional pair of pants.

I hope there aren’t any triskaidekaphobic Mumpers!

I didn’t sleep well last night. The rain woke me once or twice, then at ~5am the dog woke me with her efforts to jump up on the bed. About a month ago I put a big storage ottoman at the foot of the bed to help her with that: it’s been awesome, but it took her a few tries this morning. I think the damp weather bothers her hips. Plus her tummy is still acting up, so she might be feeling a little weak. Anyway, I have a mild-but-lingering “not enough sleep” headache. Luckily, work has been pretty quiet so far. Hopefully, the most I’ll have to do this afternoon is get through my annual review with my boss. :crossed_fingers:

After work I’ll finish re-watching The Good Wife (just two episodes left), and then I can finally start catching up on my TiVo backlog. I now have multiple episodes of multiple shows piled up. It’s the furthest behind I’ve ever gotten: if my TiVo were sentient, it would have called the authorities for a wellness check on me.

Tomorrow afternoon I’ll be going to a celebration of life for someone I used to know. Frankly I didn’t always get along with him, but he meant a lot to some people who once meant a lot to me. I still care about some of the people he left behind, so I’ll go pay my respects. I might see some particular former friends for the first time in nearly a decade, but I have no hard feelings anymore and I’m hoping all of tomorrow’s interactions will be positive. Maybe some connections will even be reestablished…though honestly I won’t mind if they aren’t.

Sunday’s plans are much better: I’m having brunch at the Kennedy Center with my “theater buddy,” then we’re seeing a matinee performance of Wicked. We’ve seen it before, but 8 years ago and somewhere else. It will be our first time at the Kennedy Center since the pandemic! I’m looking forward to every aspect of the afternoon: eating brunch, seeing my friend, seeing that show, and being back at that venue. As a bonus, the weather is supposed to be N.O.S. and the views of DC from the venue’s roof can be really nice.

I’m very glad it’s a three-day weekend: by Monday I’ll be ready for a day-o-sloth with the doggy!

… I am so sorry. I laughed my ass off at that part.

Also, the mental image of one horse goosing another. (Again, I am sorry for laughing. A whole entire horse jumping over your body is quite a lot of terror.)

Happy Friday!

It’s a N.O.S. 44 degrees outside.

Ripple had his surgery today and it went very well.
I can pick him up after 230, but we’ll wait until 4 when I can get the other two from daycare.

In other good news, my son finally got some of his unemployment. Two weeks’ worth, but he is owed either 10 or 12 weeks total. I hope it’s not another problem. It was a surprise, no notifications of any kind. Just a small chunk of money was deposited into the account.
His weekly amount is more than I expected it to be.

Lucy dad got a new pup. I’m surprised he went with a small dog this time. Looks like it may be beagle and Jack Russell or fox terrier. Very cute, very tiny, under 15 pounds. I haven’t met him yet, but I hear he had a great time at the park today.

I feel like a huge weight has been taken off now that Ripple’s surgery is over.
Although I still need to get the results of the biopsy.
They said he did really well, and didn’t try to bite anybody.

Good luck with the job interview Nettie

I hope all goes well for your mom Wordy

I know how that is WetOne. The mud around the gates can be horrible. I’ve gotten stuck, fortunately I never fell.

I’ve got goosed by a goose when I was bending over trying to get a pack of cigarettes out of the pig’s mouth. My then bf, who stupidly left the cigarettes where the pig could get them, thought I was saving his cigarettes. Dumbass, I was afraid the cigarettes would make the pig sick if she ate them.
The goosing didn’t hurt, and I was a little surprised because the geese usually left me alone.
Other people weren’t so lucky, and the goosing drew blood.

I used to walk my mastiff in a park where there was a lake. There were always people fishing at the lake. One day we came out of the woods by the lake, and everybody was running away from the lake with the geese hot on their asses.
Somebody told me I needed to run.
My mastiff’s ears perked up; I think he had never seen geese before.
The geese took one look at him, turned tail, and ran back to the lake.
My dog wouldn’t have hurt them, he just wanted to see what they were.

Y’all have been quite busy. I need to go back up and keep reading.

I was chased by a swan as a very young child, in the Łazienki Park in Warsaw - Wikipedia Łazienki Park - Wikipedia
I just remember strolling past some shrubbery when all of a sudden something very large (to me) and very angry started chasing me.

I also remember my Other Shoe telling me about his childhood beagle, who enjoyed chasing chickens on his grandmother’s ranch. One day, the beagle saw a BIG CHICKEN and tried to chase it. But 'twas a goose, and it chased that beagle right back.

Beagles have white tail tips; it apparently went straight for that, with beagle howling, tail between her legs.
