FCM, condolences for you and your family. I’m glad it was peaceful. And I wish you luck on handling those details. That sounds so overwhleming. I’m sorry.
sari and doggio, I’m so sorry to hear about your critters. Lucy sounded like a sweetheart, and Alex Catt was such a lovey.
Cold outside, it was 27 when I went out to pick up my son from irk.
It’s 37 now, so not too bad.
No park today, and no daycare.
Today I’m trying to line everything up for Friday.
{{{Doggio}}} I am so so sorry.
Weird dreams all night and in my last dream I got a cramp in my leg and all attempts to relieve it made it worse. So of course I woke up with a leg cramp.
I was able to relieve it, until I put my shoe on and it came back.
I am so sore from PT yesterday; I can barely walk today.
Welp, I didn’t take Bailey to daycare today after all: her tummy is a bit wonky, so I decided to delay her triumphant return to Dogtopia*. No doggy stress dream last night, though…whew!
*Isn’t that a great name??
Right now it’s 43°F and mostly sunny, with an expected high of 46. By the time I go to bed it should be raining, and tomorrow will see scattered thunderstorms – but warmer, with a high of 54. The 10-day forecast looks more like late March than mid-January, but I’ll be happy as long as the snow stays away.
I’m feeling less anxious about today’s performance discussions with my direct reports (at 1pm and 3pm), but I’ll still be happy when both are done. I think I’ll “celebrate” after work at the grocery store: I’m out of fruit and some other things, and if the bakery happens to have any no-sugar-added apple turnovers available they might happen to wind up in my cart…
OMG!! I am so sorry!
I believe it’s entirely possible for people to be infected/infectious without ever having symptoms; I think that’s part of what has made COVID so insidious.
Time for lunch: I’m about to have the last PB&J Uncrustable (and the last of the apple slices). Although they’re yummy and I’m relieved that I can tolerate some peanut butter again, they don’t really have enough protein to justify the amount of sugar – so, I won’t buy them again right away. But I’m happy to know they’re back to being an option for when I need to pack a lunch. Options are good!
Laundry day. We hate laundry day. It’s a communal laundry for the entire building: five washers (four of which work because some idiot stuck a pillow in one of them) and five dryers (one of which sounds like a plane crash when you turn it on). You’re only supposed to use two of each at any given time, which means that for two people it’s at least two cycles to get everything done. At least it’s free.
We’re going to a posh-ish restaurant this evening for a three course lobster dinner, which will hopefully be worth the price of admission. Lobster salad, lobster ravioli, a 12oz tail, and dessert. Wine included.
Good evening. Been looking at places to stay in San Diego - we’ll definitely need a vacation after spending so much time doing research.
After a warmish winter break, we’re back to cold drizzle, which means some white stuff in the mountains. That’ll make some people happy, if they want to ski. Me? It’s pretty.
{{{{FairyChatEstateResidentsandRelatives}}}} I hope you’re able to reach some sort of normalcy soon, and get some days for some real relaxation.
{{{{doggio}}}} I have no words. Such a shock, and so soon after Gordie. I am so sorry.
Working on getting functional. News station reports today is the 17th day in a row with measurable rain here, not quite 9 1/2" total in that time (averaging about 1/2"/day). Tomorrow’s supposed to be dry, but rain comes back Friday, heavy on Saturday, at least some rain each day until next Thursday, say the guessers. Even to an Oregon coast girl, this is getting tedious.
At least emergency warnings are calming down, so I’ll hopefully stop worry about things like power outages. Speaking of, my own power company (serving customers within city limits) is below 5000 customers without power, which is better than it’s been in probably a week. I’ve been fortunate and my own power has stayed on. Lights flickered very briefly a couple of times, but that was it. Pretty soon, I should be able to sort out the emergency supplies and find storage for them other than in the living room.
Do you have an assigned day, or do you just pick a day and try to get in as you are able? Either way, communal laundry facilities usually suck, so you have my sympathy.
Can I give you a storage hint? My feelings won’t get hurt if you don’t follow it. (Under the bed storage bins are da bomb). Number your bins on all four sides and the tops. Make a detailed inventory list of everything in each bin that includes quantity and “best by” dates and use the bin number as the title. Put a copy of the inventory in the bin and then put another copy in whatever filing system you use.
This way, you don’t have to be dragging all of your bins out to look through the sides so you can find your handwarmers, you already know exactly which bin to look for. (Labels taped to the tops or sides of boxes often get ripped off as other boxes slide on them, writing on one side of the bin is the easiest way to guarantee that side of the bin will be covered by something.)
Today was produce day and LWT couldn’t come with me. One of the littles has some sort of kid crap and while LWT feels fine, she still didn’t want to risk giving it to me. I know she was sad about that, she loves her boys but does enjoy getting a short break once in a while.
Plus, I give her some hits off my pipe while we are waiting in line and she always likes that. They don’t have the money to buy weed themselves, but never say no to a toke if offered and I rarely go anywhere without it.
Today we got big bags of potatoes, onions, apples and tangerines as well as big tubs of frozen Trader Joe’s chicken noodle soup. I like chicken noodle soup, but hubs is low carb and I didn’t think I’d eat the whole tub before it went bad, so I gave that to LWT as well.
Laundry is happening here as well and the dryer dinger just went off. I hate that damn thing and wish there was a way to change it. It is just so happy and cheerful and folding laundry is NOT a happy and cheerful task, damnit!
Nah, it’s first-come, first-annoyed. Laundry is the number one topic at every residents’ meeting. People not removing lint from the dryers, people leaving stuff in the dryers for extended periods, people using more than two machines. . .the list is nearly endless. It’s the downside to living in a community like this. Well, that and people thinking that because they’ve lived to be 90 that they are the arbiters of all human behavior.
Trade you. Mine’s a very annoying buzzer. Makes the whole thing just that little bit more unpleasant.
I do plan to type up a detailed inventory to store in my Evernote. Labeling containers is a very good idea, too (I do that when packing boxes for moves), but I don’t think under the bed is an option, since we already have it pretty full under there. I have a two-bathroom apartment, and we only use one of the tubs (why have to clean a second one unnecessarily?), so the other has become a storage area, currently holding paper goods and cat litter. I can easily slide my emergency supply bins in there and stack the TP, paper towels, and such on top of them. I’ll even be able to identify which bins hold the emergency stuff, since those two are bright red (my others are blue, gray, or green).
Still got a couple more orders of survival-type stuff coming in the next few days, so I’ll be stashing the bins probably over the weekend once I figure out organizing them.
One reason I so love having laundry hookups in my apartment. I’m paying $50/month to rent the machines from the complex, which is probably about what I’d spend in the communal laundry room at the other end of the complex with no seating (and I do not trust my neighbors enough to leave laundry unattended) and restricted hours, or at a laundromat, and having my own equipment allows for much better time usage. I don’t have to stand guard over my laundry, I can do other things while it’s running, and don’t have to deal with transport time or working around when the facilities are open. I know that’s not an option for you, and I do sympathize (been there done that).
Mine is a stealth dryer: it gives no alert at all. You’re just suddenly aware there’s an absence of noise and that your clothes are probably already wrinkling.
Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and have achieved nappage. A whirlwind of activity we are! Next up is day drinkin’, followed by the makeage and eatage of sup. Instead of bacon wrapped spare guts, the vegetative matter will be sauteed green beans with 'shrooms, onions, and pimentos along with the shrimpies ‘n grits. I did not like the look of the spare guts at the Pubic sto’ today.
Yankers hope you get the truck woes situated soonest. Yay for bein’ mostly over the plague.
JtC da cave dryer does a little happy tune as well. I figure that must be its version of a happy dance cause it’s done with irk when the clothes are dry.
Performance review conversations with my direct reports are done! (The 3pm got moved up.) Both went well, I think. Now I just have to type up my final thoughts, and have each person acknowledge their review in the system. I can worry about that tomorrow, though. My own review has been moved from tomorrow afternoon to Friday afternoon, which I’m fine with.
I might head to the grocery store at around 3:30pm, to beat the after-work crowd. I no longer wear a mask there, but I still prefer to go when it isn’t very busy.
JtC, that picture made me laugh out loud…and then steal it! I myself don’t partake (purely for legal reasons; I did as a young 'un), but several of my friends do and they will love it.
I can’t imagine ever again voluntarily living somewhere with communal laundry. I had enough of that in college, the shared house I lived in after graduating, and my first apartment (maybe the first two?). One advantage of now renting only townhouses or single-family homes is that most of them include a washer and dryer.
Same here! I can’t decide if I’d prefer a buzz, though. On one hand I wouldn’t have to remember that there’s stuff in the dryer, but on the other hand the laundry room is an addition (which shares a wall with BR1) and I’m not sure I’d be able to hear it from the LR. I can’t even hear the washer or the dryer running unless I’m in BR1 and the house is quiet.
The landscaper and two guys are building the flat area for Wifey’s greenhouse. They were digging the bump out when I left for my walk, and an hour later the framing is done and they’re putting in the gravel. I averaged 3.29 mph over 3.12 miles today. That’s the fastest I’ve walked.
I’m so sorry about Alex Catt, Doggio. [Manly Brohugs.]
We’re just back from a trip to the Big City, where we procured a prescription and some provisions, 'specially eggs. The rest of the day may be taken up by slothage. We got a frozen pizza for dinner, don’t judge. We’ll likely add stuff to it before we cook it anyway.
Hope things are getting better on your home front, Mom.
The base is 8 feet by 8 feet, and there are metal poles in back to keep it from sliding down the hill. The greenhouse is 6 by 6. I’ll put it together after I finish my build-the-frame-for-the-wood-pile-cover project.
I joked that by the time the greenhouse foundation was put in, Wifey’s Christmas present (the greenhouse) is going to cost a thousand dollars. As it turns out… $391 (including tax) for the greenhouse, and $700 to the landscaper. So more like $1,100. I think that’s the most I’ve ever spent for someone’s Christmas present.
Went to the P.O. to mail off my FINALLY finished cross-stitch gift to the lovely friend who sent me a buncha supplies.
Lady in front of me in line explained that she needed a bit of help; she’d just moved into a new house and it had NO MAILBOX and how can she get that set up?
Clerk immediately got her supe, who worked with her on the paperwork for a change of address among other stuff.
Overheard:
“So, do I gotta get this new box set up myself?”
“NO that’s your landlord’s responsibility!”
I stood there behind her, appalled. I mean, I’ve lived in some holes before, but ZERO ability to receive mail? At a registered address? That seems … vaguely illegal.
We chatted for a moment while they got her papers together, and when I was called up I wished her luck. (Cuz damn that’s messed up )
I used to have an “Angry Nun Scolding You” type of buzzer, and appreciate my current machine’s happy little chime. The old machine made me feel like I was being yelled at.
My washer has chimes and the dryer has a buzzer, but I can’t hear either one upstairs. I just set a timer or put a reminder on Alexa - that seems to take care of it.
Home early - SIL came to take the kids to meet daughter for supper, so I got to leave. Looks like our supper will be sammiches. Chillage shall ensue. Chance of rain tonight. That’s pretty much our excitement.
After I got out of the military, I just assumed that all apartments came with w/d hook-ups. By the time I learned I was wrong, I was locked into a lease. Never again!
How very annoying. I know you don’t have hook-ups but do you have storage for small, portable w/d combo? Something like these? no hookup washer and dryer
I have owned and used one. They are small, you can only do a couple of pair of jeans at the same time. They hook up to your kitchen sink so you can’t do anything out there while it is running and you have to watch it to be sure the tap connection is tight or you will be mopping your kitchen. The dryer will only do one pair of jeans at a time. I never trusted mine enough to leave it running when I was out of my place.
So, all in all, they are a total PITA. However, they are probably much improved in the omg over 40 years since I had one and no matter how bad they are, they are still better than messing around with communal laundry facilities.
I have had loud scolding buzzers and my current happy dance buzzer. I like the scolding one better because the happy dance one sounds to me like “Hahaha, I’m done, you gotta get up off your ass now.”
Frozen pizzas have seriously improved over the years. They used to be like eating catsup smeared cardboard, but nowadays some of them are great even without adding things.
It looks nice. While I would agree that she is worth twice that much, if it bothers you, consider it to be a home improvement project that will help the selling price.
Grins proudly. It was forwarded to me by my non-smoking husband
Shoe, I saw the pic of your project, that is beautiful work and I am sure your friend is going to be thrilled to get it! I always has a jealous over your ability to design your own work.
How nice that both of you can have some time to just decompress, lord knows you could use it!
Now that I’m able to attract woodpeckers, I have learned that they tend to announce themselves when they drop by for dinner. VBC chatters at the larger birds and quickly picked on on their chirp and jumps on the nightstand to look out and give them a piece of her mind.
Today, GG and VBC were rolling around in mortal combat and she had him down on his back with defensive feets spread wide in the air, her spine was ridged and she was growling while pulling her paw back for a might swing when suddenly a woodpecker called from the feeder. VBC instantly turned around and jumped on the nightstand leaving poor confused GG with his feet in the air and doing his little kitten chirp while looking like a kid who’s ice cream had fallen out of the cone.
