A surprising encounter for the SDMB One-Trick-Pony Chowder and Marching Society w/H4E

I gotta jump in with masonite. His4ever is no peach, that’s for sure, but accusing her of being in the KKK ridiculous.

The queen of whoosh- don’t count on it.

Masonite: in “satire” one overstates one’s opponent’s position, while still keeping the general thrust of their ideology. The Klan and Torquemada things were clearly overstatement but are the logical reductio ad absurdum of her hate.

Read her anti-gay drive-bys. She stops into threads for no other purpose than to post anti-gay drivebys. She apparently sees gay people as, at best, a way to gain conversion points. I can see her sitting there, with a scorecard, saying “Tsk, that’s one more gay damned to hell. Teehee!”

Sorry you didn’t like it, but I’ll stand by it.

On preview, reading jarbaby’s comments: did people really think I was accusing her of being a Klansman as opposed to likening her behavior to one?

Fenris

By the way, has anyone ever gotten out of the One-Trick Pony Chowder and Marching Society?

CJ

Sounds like a pretty straightforward, one to one accusation that the people at her “church” wear white robes and burn crosses, which I can only assume you are using as symbols of the KKK.

::: raises hand :::

Me. Twice.

First time I was Pitted was by SqrlCub – for being too rationalistic, and not allowing myself to accept his witnesses about pagan mysticism. (For anybody who had read my posts on belief, as well as for myself, that must have been a strange experience.

Before that, though, due to my posting in a couple of religion GD threads and not making myself clear, Satan had formed the misperception that I was a Christian of the conservative evangelical stripe who wouldn’t accept anything based on reason or empirical evidence if it conflicted with a tenet of what he supposed to be my faith.

I ended up with both of them as close friends, both online and in our all-too-few bodies-occupying-the-same-room get-togethers.

I want to add one thing to CJ’s previous suggestions to His4Ever, and this one is heartfelt:

You claim to know a God of love, dear, and I believe you do. I’ve read your posts here and on another board with an attempt at Christian understanding. But trying to see your posts with the eyes of a non-Christian, Christ’s love doesn’t show through in them. From the evidence of your posts, you’re focused too closely on the witness to non-believers in the evangelical mode that insists on their utter sinfulness and on God’s redemptive work – and, as I’ve said before, that style of witness does not “connect” well with people here.

Do witness to our God – but try to say a bit more about the marvelous things He’s done, and a bit less on what your understanding of the Bible calls sins. And in particular on the love that we’re supposed to express for every person for whom Christ died.

And you might see a definite difference in how people perceive you and what you’re trying to do.

I know I have, for what difference that makes to you.

And you have Scriptural warrant for that: “By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, that you love one another.”

Fenris: I guess I know what satire is, thanks. You don’t think it’s overkill to refer to the KKK to describe rigid, but not racist, beliefs, when there is still the actual KKK and actual racism to fight?

Why, if you do that, you’re no better than Hitler!

I’m perhaps the one billionth person to notice that when you throw around these terms as general insults, you trivialize the terrible impact of the actual, real groups you’re referring to.

I shouldn’t presume to lecture you of all people on this, but I’m stunned by what you said, and could not let it pass.

Rigid, bigoted, cruel and vindictive. Doesn’t seem to trivialize anything to me. The only lack of action is what separates her “views” from the actual groups he refers to.

**
Aargh. You’re right. And given that I’ve bitched about the misuse of “Nazi”…

My only point of disagreement with you at this point is where you described her views as “rigid, not racist”. I’d say she’s far closer to racist tham rigid.

**

No, by all means, presume.

You (and Jarbaby )were right and I apologize for the “Klan” references.

cjhoworth/Polycarp: Just to be clear, I’ve never put Polycarp in my “One-Trick Pony Chowder and Marching Society” threads. (I want to avert any possible misunderstanding and a huge drain on the search engines. ), but yeah, the club was originally created to feature a poster named SeaSorbust who was obsessed with Flaming Metor Doom (most of his posts related to Earth being hit with giant meteors/asteroids and all life on earth being wiped out). After a couple of people pitted him, he diversified and was a pretty cool poster afterwards. (before he got busted for sock-puppetry)

on preview Epimetheus: in retrospect, that lack of action is a pretty big differnce though. I think masonite’s right that it diminishes what the groups actually do. But your list pretty well sums up H4E

Fenris

As His4ever is famous on the board for her unrelenting (rigid) views on homosexuality/Roman Catholicism/Mormonism/and pet care, that she is actually more racist than rigid is a very serious charge indeed. Can you provide one example to support this charge ?

Pet care??? Where does she stand on pet care? Can we expect a new Pit thread soon?

:: wanders off to feed the cats ::

I consider being “anti-gay” as a subset of “racist”.

As being gay is not a choice, the term is far more appropriate as she hates* people for a characteristic they were born with that they cannot (and should not be pestered to) change.

Fenris

*I’m not gonna quibble over whether her gleeful “You’re goin’ to hell an’ I’m NOT 'cause you’re gaaaayyy” style posts are hateful or not. There’s been plenty of evidence that the people to whom they’re directed think so, pretty much without exception.

As the Original One Trick Pony[sup]TM[/sup]… We are amused.

Esprix, HRM

Billy Elliot: “I feel like a sissy.”

Mrs. Wilkinson (his ballet teacher): “Then don’t act like one.”

Mr. Fenris, you are a veritable Mark Twain.

Exprix: “HRM?”

Poly: I think you’re reading too much into H4E’s posts.

HRM= His (or Her) Royal Majesty

Fenris, I didn’t mean your formalized group, but rather the traditional classification of Certain Posters as one-trick ponies, which rather predates you. (Heck, you weren’t even here when the LBMB drive-by-witness-a-rama happened!)

Monty: “There’s so much good in the worst of us, and so much bad in the best of us…”

Actually, I’d been lurking and showed up right about the same time (or just barely after) the LBMB invasion (so I even remember Phaedrus…barely)
