A Tad Late, but Still the MMP....

Tigs, congrats on your new, upcoming knee! I too am hearing that bionic noise.

Well, hubby is on his way home. The ramp boss came in and thanked everyone for their “patience”. Hubby quite firmly explained that HE will determine when it’s safe to drive, not the dispatcher who’s sitting a DESK. Safety firmly agreed with this assessment, and so the did the ramp boss. Especially when it was pointed out that hubby is a million mile safe driver and who knows what the hell he’s doing.

The problem is that the ramp was having problems with a few drivers who were staying out several days. Hubby called in on the worst day, but made damn sure he showed the next day.

At any rate, that little kerfluffle is over.

Rigs, take this damn snow, PUH-LEASE. This is the fifth or sixth weather closure for the kids. At this rate, they’ll still be in school in July.

Sunuvabitch.

VWife opens the mail, and there’s a check from the mortgage company for not quite half of a monthly payment, being escrow overpayment. Also a note saying our scheduled payment is going down $45 for next year.

Then she asks, “are you in on this Raytheon litigation?” (Raytheon being the eeevil bastards that laid me off in '03, ultimately resulting in me now living in Mayberry)

“What Raytheon litigation?”, for I was clueless.

“There’s 8 pages here about a settlement, and I can’t scan it fast enough to cover it on the phone.”

A little rapid Google-fu turned up a class action lawsuit concerning the retirement fund and some stock shenanigans being settled for $37.50/share before legal fees. Since I was in for a couple hundred shares at one time, that’s a chunk o’ coin.

This could mean an end to my present house-poor status…

I hope my karma doesn’t swing the other way, now…

But if he doesn’t work on them, they’ll never get better.

Bobbio’s gettin’ rich by mail. Party at the VunderLair!

gt I’m glad you took on Spats. I don’t think there’s enough nerve tonic in the world to help me deal with him, personally.

Hmm. Off by ten tonight, 2 hours to Mayberry, see you at middnight, bobbio!!

It’s down to 59 now, cat is complaining about the cold. It’s still one of those weeks. I could use a keg of nerve tonic.

{{{{{meli and puggy}}}}}.

Taters, glad the safety people were reasonable for once.

Well, brrrr… it’s gonna get below freezing by week’s end. I might have to dig out my heavy coat! Hmmm… now where did I put it…

Why ain’t it time to go home yet?

{{Puggy}}

I feel bad worrying about our kitty when Puggy’s worrying about her father. It definitely puts things in perspective. But thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I had an hourlong conversation with the Firm’s recruitment manager. She gave me some great tips on on re-working my resume, thinking about what and where my next job will be, and networking. I feel much more settled now.

Now I’ve finished cleaning off my desk. It’s actually surprising how little paper there is. I’m really aggressive about not printing stuff if I have a softcopy. The odd thing is that no one has asked about my files, my desk, anything. It’s kind of strange. I would think that some of this stuff ought to be transitioned somewhere, but apparently, my managers are going to be on their own after tomorrow.

{{{Puggy, Puggy’s family and Meli}}}

Yay, **Tigs ** and Bobbio, that’s great news for both of you.

Ziiiiiiiing!

Just a quick drive-by to say hi. I don’t have time for much else. Won’t be in the office tomorrow. On a very quick glance I see people need hugs, but I’m not entirely sure who or why so (hugs everyone in thread). Also love and kisses, yadda yadda yadda. Might see you Thursday.

Later!

Oh, they’ll get better. I measure how good they are by how much of your hair ends up on the floor afterwards. Trust me, they’ll get better.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to take this as a sizable boost to my ego.

Well, dang. I spent a whole lot more than I meant to. But we have food! And cat food! And laundry soap! And the kitchen is all clean and tidy.

Costco has taken away my dried cherries, and hath put in their place dried kiwis, which don’t interest me. I should totally have gotten creme brulee. Sulk.

Is it still only Tuesday?

Oy, stoopid pharmacy! Papa Tigs takes an oral diabetes medication. Our doctor who prescribes it for him has her office literally a stone’s throw from the pharmacy; you could toss a rock from her window and hit them.

So Friday was the last day for our health insurance under his plan from his now-former employer. Thursday he phoned in a refill of his diabetes med (which he couldn’t do sooner because the stoopid insurance company would only let you order up to 7 days before running out), knowing that they’d need to call the doctor’s office for a new prescription.

So what does the pharmacy do? Do they call the doctor right next door? No. Do they call the doctor he used when he first came up here to work in 2004, whose office is 45 minutes away on the other side of DC? No. Who do they call? His doctor in New Orleans. That’s right, they went back THREE doctors. And of course the NOLA doctor declined to refill the scrip. Under normal circumstances we could just yell at the pharmacy to call the right doc, but they missed the insurance window. So now I have to beg samples or else we pay out of pocket. Because of the stoopid pharmacy. Grr…

Whew - nothing like a Monday on Tuesday…

Speaking of hitting deer, I didn’t, but I had to swerve to avoid something big and dead on the road this morning. That’s at least 3 dead things on that stretch of road in the last month or so.

Thanks for the ego strokes about the pottery. Now I need to start scoping out craft shows so I can get all that stuff OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!

Meanwhile, it’s time to make dinner (shrimp scampi tonight) and pay some bills. Busy busy me…

Whatever gets you through the day.

Is it Monday yet? Please? I want to give the rest of this week a pass.

Here’s a couple of pluses for my work life…

Plus one… I have a new (old) employee. I haven’t said too much about this (heck, nuttin’ at all) but somebody who used to work for me who quit suddenly three and a half years ago, is now re-employed. Some stuff went down with her personal life that cause her abrupt departure. I wish it hadn’t happened, but, life, what ya gonna do, right? Anywho… I made some contact with her in mid December to find out how’s she doing (not in the how you doin’ way, get yer minds outta the gutter, sheesh!) and to see if she might possibly be interested in coming back to work. Well, last week, she called and said yes (all I said was think about it please). So, short story, she’s back. I’m a happy employer/bear because of it. She really hit the ground running today too. This is gonna be a good thing.

Plus two… the position I just can’t seem to fill… I inteviewed somebody this morning. We hit it off big time. She knows people I need her to know already. So, about ten minutes into the interview I say, “You want the job?” She says: “Yes I do, sounds like it’ll be a challenge and you’d be great to work for.” The paperwork stuff is in place to hire her.

Ok, I know all this sounds like I’m really rash and hasty in my hiring decisions. Well, that’s cause I tend to be that way. It’s like this, plus two person know a whole lot of what I need for this position. She has all kinds of experience and knowledge of production type stuff. I won’t have to do a whole lot of training. Plus one person is somebody I know who has a great rapport with the people I need her to have a great rapport with. See, I got several phone calls today that were all like, “Yay! I’m glad she’s back with ya.”

Happy Bear! Happy, Happy Bear! Even though I don’t get to see ACBG this evening (poor thing’s buried in paperwork stuff) I’m still a Happy Bear! Heh! ACBG even commented that he’s sorry he won’t get to see me tonight what with my good mood and all cause well… let’s not get all that TMI…

LiLi did you buy any huge cheesecakes? You shoulda. Cheesecake is always a good thing to buy.

Tigs a pox and several painful plagues on that pharmacy.

Spats if you were truly greatful, you’d find a way to turn that into a sig line.

FCM you ever investigate any of that dead stuff in the road? I mean, with it being Winter and all, roadkill is usually fresher… Just sayin’.

w00t! My new fridge is here!

Yay for new employees and new fridges!

My motivation tanked this afternoon. I was doing well but suddenly just didn’t feel like doing work any more. Hopefully tomorrow’s better!

You’s one klassy bear, you are… :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, we’ve got a new addition to the family - ScruffyDog. She has been wandering in our neighborhood for several weeks, and she’s filthy and matted and stinky and, well, scruffy. **FCD ** saw her wandering along our street this evening and brought her home. Brandy is not pleased, Bernie is not impressed, and at the moment, Miss ScruffyDog is being bathed by her rescuer. We tried cutting away her mats, but there are so many and they’re so full of crud, we thought we’d have better luck if she was clean.

Tomorrow, I’ll call our vet and get an appointment to get her checked out and vaccinated. She seems to be pretty old, and I think she has some poodle in her bloodline, based on her hair. But she’s long and low to the ground - maybe there’s some weiner dog in there too? Who knows. Anyway, FairyChatEstates is now a 3 critter home.

AWWWWWWWWWWWW… ScruffyDog is a cutie. The two of you have earned major karma points. Hey, maybe y’all will earn the distinction of the crazy neighborhood dog people! Wouldn’t that be great! Still, ScruffyDog hit the jackpot being a member of the FairyChatHousehold. She’s one lucky ScruffyDog, yes she is! So, tell me, any butt sniffin’ amongst the critters commenced yet?

Bobbio a new fridge and money in the mail… gonna be one heckuva party at the VunderLair is all I can say. Me and doggio will be expecting beerverages to flow like… well… beer.

Well, it’s finally cold here - but I saw a bluejay and his girlfriend when I left to go shopping for Connor’s road bag. My boy shall be stuffed! His “bag” ended up being two brown paper grocery bags; they’ll be gone until early Sunday morning and he needs to keep his strength up. But by the time I got breakfast stuff and lunch stuff and snack type stuff it was kinda overstuffed. I’m a good hockey mama.

Our oven is acting wanky, and this is not a good thing. I can’t bake any beads, and I have to feed the visiting hockey team on the 27th. Mr SCL is making his famous lasagna.

Pugs - I hope thing progress swiftly and peacefully. I also sing the praises of Hospice - my MIL and my uncle were both under their care. They are angels. I was present when my uncle left us; he said “I hear taps” and was gone, although his body continued to breathe for another hour or so. We could tell by his eyes “he” was no longer with us. It was enormously sad but very peaceful. More {{{{{}}}}} and purrs from the fuzzbutts for you and your family. Once it is over, don’t feel guilty if you feel relief. You’re not glad he is gone, you are glad he is no longer suffering.

FCM - you get Karma points for taking in a stray. Looks like she’ll be cute once the groomer has had a chance to clean her up a bit. Since Magic is a purebred, I don’t get Karma points for taking him in. I think I get a few for keeping him - the pineapple plant eating freak!

Swampy, I bought a 9-pack of double rolls of TP yesterday and thought about you. You know that none of us will ever be able to buy TP without thinking about you, don’t you?
