A Tale of Two Turtles MMP

What an adorable baby turtle!! My husband is a turtle-saver - especially when we lived in Florida.

We are not floating. It was extremely windy, plus due to some equipment breakdown, the lift couldn’t get to our boat. Maybe Wednesday…

**gotti **- yay for the hot tub! We had one some years ago, and the advice we got was to use bromine instead of chlorine. Worked well for us - you might ask about that. I wish someone would give us a hot tub. 'Cept we don’t have any space for one. Some day…

Welcome back, NoLa!! Adorable bebbeh!!

Welcome new visitors!

{{MamaTigs}}

**Bobbio **- why do you have a refund from VA if you live in NC?? I’s cornfused.

Is it Firday yet?

Echoing FCM, " Is it Firday yet?"

Welcome back TagFree! Baby Anya is preciously cute–what a doll baby, congratulations.

I dunno what it is, but my joints is aching today. So much that I’m taking another relafen. Hopefully the knees won’t hurt so much tomorrow.

Cuz, like you, I work in Virginia but live elsewhere. NC only allows me to claim 85% of my out-of-state withholding as a tax credit. VA withholds at a higher rate than NC, so the VA refund winds up paying the NC amount owed.

But Va doesn’t withhold anything from my pay or my husband’s (who also works in Va) - our pay is taxed by MD alone. I’m still confused.

Howdy Y’all! Two down and three to go! YAY! I mean it too. I am not goin’ to work on my days off. Nope. Not even. Really. I mean it. Nope. Ain’t gonna happen.

Howdy Tagfree! Anya is just waaaaaaaaaay to keeeeeeeyooooooote!

Howdy to all the others wanderin’ in and out of the MMP. Who knew there was that much turtle love on the dope!

Great snappin’ turtle story Marlitharn! They’re viscious and they’ll pee on ya!

gotti what MOOOOOOM said about the bromine. It’s better than chlorine for a hottub. Except, I recommend washin’ it down with the old standby 1 part bleach to 10 parts hot water before fillin’ it up and everytime you drain it. If you have old towels, keep ‘em for just such occasions. All you need to do is wipe it down good with the bleach solution. You might want to invest in an electric pump for pumpin’ out the water. It’ll be really handy. I speak from experience as a hottub owner. Oh and even if you don’t get in it everyday, it’s a good idea to let it run for about fifteen minutes every twenty four hours just to circulate water through the pump. It will use some electriciity bit it’s oh so worth it! Also, shower before gettin’ in. It helps keep the water clean longer. I recommend drainin’ and refillin’ once a month durin’ the time you use it. I don’t use mine in the summer but I do give it a monthly bath with the bleach solution even then. Soak the filters in a a bleach solution at least once a month to keep 'em clean and rinse afterwards. A couple of hours soak will do it. It’ll prolong the life of the filters. One more thing, go to a pool supply place and buy one of those little bromine/chlorine dispensers that float in the hottub. It’s a good way to make sure you keep enough bromine in the tub.

Thus endeth the lesson on hottubs.

Ok, need to feed.

Later Y’all!

ETA: The floating bromine dispenser looks like this.

The FedGuv can do stuff like withhold for the state you actually live in. I’m a Beltway Bandit, and business can’t (or won’t) do that. I’m assigned to the VA Beach office, therefore I work in Virginia; ergo VA and not NC withholding.

No way am I putting any Hot BS in my tub! I did get a bottle of something ominously called Spa PURGE that claims to chew out all of the built up organic ick that’s most likely living inside the plumbing since this tub has been unused for a couple of years. Thankfully, it’s just plain ol’ dirty and not green or anything nasty. Just have to wait for the purge stuff and the filter retainer to motor on down from somewhere in Michigan. It’ll take me at least that long to get the electric run anyway.

For draining, our current plan is to connect a garden hose to the drain valve and run that off to the street as we have no floor drains or other suitable places to put 400 gallons of water in one lump, so to speak. Trying to discharge it to the yard will only result in it rolling downhill to the neighbors’ yards. Will it take too long to drain “naturally” through a garden hose, or am I better off pumping the tub out into the kitchen sink?

gotti it’ll take a couple of hours or so to drain via hose as opposed to about half an hour with the pump. However, you live in a sort of hilly area AIR, so the water will probably drain out faster with a hose than it does down here in flat, swampy south Jawja.

I nuked some frozen homemade chicken noodle soup for dindin. 'Twas good.

He’s gone. :frowning: But it was very peaceful. He was happy the whole time. I know it was the right thing to do. It’s still damned difficult. I was so looking forward to seeing both pups in August. I will still go and spoil Isaac rotten, but it’s not going to be quite the same.

Arrrrgh…taxes. I filed back in January. Thankfully I only had to file for one state this year. I remember when I was a kid living in Texas and had no idea there was such a thing as state income tax until we moved to California when I was 16. Those were the days.

Anya is adorable.

I know nothing about hot tubs so will only say good luck for those who have them. I’d love to have one if I could. My back, especially, would love it.

I survived work, and a walk with Gordie. I am sipping a Sam Adams double bock, and Papa Johns brought dinner.

welcome back, TagFree! cute kid, too.

Long, dull Monday for me, at least the evening approaches.

Tagless Link is from the Zelda games. Loved them, I did, until carpel tunnel syndrome messed up my wrists. Darling bebe too, btw!

It’s sunny out, but really cold. The snow drifts still loom large. I want summer NOW!

Whoa, deja vu, first on second, and again I failed to notice and missed the edit window.

Whoa! Deja vu! kai is first and second on a page. Again.

Sorry about Rusty. Hugs for the whole family.

Welcome back, Nola! Anya sure is a cutie. We expect updated pictures within the week!!!

Longish day. Made it to Whole Foods for lunch stuff and then watched my German soap opera.

Now it’s beddie-bye.

Back tomorrow…

GT

Anya is a cutie-pie!

I’m sorry, snowbunny and MamaTigs and family.

I have felt like crap for most of the day, but I’m ok right now. (TMI - I hope Imodium does the trick, else I’m calling in sick tomorrow.)

ReboSon came by for dinner. I made jambalaya with chicken and sausage - not too spicy. (See above problem.) He’s not getting enough hours at work and is looking to land a bartending job. I helped him out with rent yet again. <sigh>

We had a good talk about life and women and finding “the one.” I’m glad he’s taking his time, and looking for a “smokin’ hot, down home kind of girl that I can talk to.” As opposed to a “bar ho.” I love that kid! One of these days, he’ll have his life in order.

He’s been to several classes for AutoCad, and is enjoying the intellectual part of learning something new.

I’m about to go to bed, and I hope I sleep all night. My tummy still ain’t right though…

G’night, MMP!

{{MamaTigs and snowbunny}} I’m so very sorry. Rusty was a lucky pup, to have such a loving family.

Taxes. Ick. shudder I still have to do mine (up here in Canadia, we get a little bit of leeway compared to you poor shmucks Stateside… they’ll be due at the beginning of May, but I really ought to get it out of the way sooner rather than later).

It’s been a productive evening. B&Bs for our trip in May have all been decided upon and booked, and itinerary has been plotted out. Weekly self-portrait tweaked and posted to Flickr. New domain name for the blog has been purchased, and plan for new site has commenced. Hot cross bun recipe tweaked and blogged and whored out to Tastespotting for maximum exposure. Tired. Off to bed now.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. It’s Hump Day for me!

I’m glad it went peacfully BioTigs and Snowbunny.

Ok, need more caffiene and some brekkies. I am not motivated today.

Later Y’all!

Good morning all - up and caffeinating here.

Glad things went peacefully, TigsFamily and SnowBunny–Rusty was indeed a lucky pup with you all as his family.

Classic case of dontwannas today but I’ma heading in shortly …

BLURF.

I had my ass dragged out of bed at 4 AM to do CPR on an old guy. He died on me, so I’m tired AND grouchy today.

That is all.

That damn frog is getting only seven crickets until she eats them all the first night. There was one left in her cage from last week that kept chirping last night. I finally made it commit suicide (chased it into the water side of the cage). Then I decided to read myself to sleep. Stupidly I chose a Dune novel which had the opposite effect as I wanted to see what would happen next. Finally got to sleep at 3:30, alarm went off at 6:30, got up at 6:48.

Morning. Up caffeinated off to work.

Spaz, I had a friend with a pet tarantula. it would kill it’s crickets just to shut them up.

Sorry about that VBob.

Hope you feel better, Rebo.
