Please do not take this as a flame (although, if what I say here is true, we’ll all learn that this is well nigh impossible).
Otto, you have a problem. You have a tendency to get quite…militant when people disagree with you (I have been accused of the same thing). It inhibits your ability to objectively read what the other person is posting. You did it to me in the homophobic bigots thread. I read through that vegetarian thread, and it seemed to me that Daniel just posted his opinion, and supported it with some pretty good facts. You dismissed everything he said without seeming like you really even considered it. I thought you were doing this to me, but I wasn’t sure because I wasn’t an impartial observer. But I am sure that you did it to Daniel. He is guilty of nothing besides for disagreeing with you. And after a while you inevitably get reduced to just saying “bullshit.” That’s why you’ve brought him down into the Pit, and offered nothing in the OP but “Fuck you.” You ought to work on being a little more open to opposing viewpoints, and being a little less quick to the flamethrower.

Eh, I’d say Daniel is more the victim of poor debating skills than being an asshole - I can see how some things that he wrote could be interpreted two ways, one insulting and one just stating his opinion.
And although I don’t always agree with Otto, in this case I would say that he proved his case better; however, I’m still going to eat meat.

Otto lost his cool, and I don’t think it was warranted. I have been following (and contributing) to the veggie thread also, and I never felt that level of frustration. But, up until that time, Otto was cool-headed, gave many many facts, and reasoning to support his case, Esprix is right, Otto presented his case better.
However, there was reason for frustration for Otto (and the rest of us.) Daniel seemed to have quite a strong anti-vegan agenda, and also seemed quite determined to clap the “hypocrite” label on veggies, even when several of us provided (I think) pretty good reasoning explaining why veggies were veggies. And yet I never saw Daniel directly address, or attempt to refute, many of our arguments or explanations. Just kept on insisting that veggies were hypocrites. Annoying, but not enough for me to lose my cool.

I dunno. I thought Daniel presented his case pretty rationally. He did needle the veggies a couple of times, but on the other hand, he was willing to concede some points (quite reasonably, I thought). Otto lost his cool, and Yosemite and Opal got a little hot under the collar, too.

Frustrated the word is frustrated, at least for me. It’s like addressing a brick wall, who wants to insist one thing, without replying or even acknowleging many of your answers or counterpoints.
