boofae, The Rat is right-you might want to rethink the FAP acronym. I looked it up. I thought I was beyond surprising, but, nope, not.
Oh, Lord, I’m glad it’s Friday. I was dropping overlygirl off at school this morning when the song, “She Will be Loved” came on by Maroon 5. She asked me what it was about and said it was a little sad and I, like an idiot, explained to her what the music video was like (i.e., girl stays in a bad relationship, she and another guy are in love, but she feels trapped and eventually gets out of it), and I told her that she shouldn’t ever, ever feel like she needed to do something like that just to be nice. I told her I was proud of her for her integrity and thought she was a very strong little lady. So here I thought I was giving a pep talk, but I did it wrong because she burst into tears.
Then I got home, compensation statements came out and I have bad news to give a lot of people. Then after that, I had to have a conversation where I bluntly told someone from a different team (who actually asked for my feedback) that she was doing a bad job and why. I tried really hard to be nice about it, but I don’t like being unclear. She cried, too. For what’s worth, I asked for feedback from my own boss and she said I did well, but I hate making people cry. It makes me want to cry.
So…I’ve made two people cry today, had to be an asshat during a contract negotiation and I had way, way, way too much coffee so I’m jittery as all getout. I think I’m going on a walk.
Hi.
I don’t even know what else to say.
Hi. If it helps your mood, I have a rabbit here with The Rips.
I used that song in a 10th grade English project. We were supposed to pick a piece of music, then make slides (the old-fashioned way - with a camera - 1969, yanno.) We would then sync the slides to the music, again the old fashioned way - we’d change them ourselves. It was pretty high-tech for the time and that particular school.
Meanwhile, my daughter is teaching her junior high students how to do 3D printing…
Shaddup!!!
I have tread the mill and had a light lunch, since I had a big breakfast. I need to drag FCD to Walgreens to get passport photos done so I can send off the renewal applications. Then around 5, I meet my daughter at the studio for our painting session. I need to figure out how to keep my glasses from fogging since I don’t normally wear a mask all that long. I read a suggestion to use a bandaid along the top edge. It may look goofy, but I think it should work fine.
Till then, chillage, I think.
@FairyChatMom If you’re going to Walgreens anyway, buy a roll of gentle, hypoallergenic ‘paper bandaging tape’. Use that to stick down the upper edge of your face mask at your painting session. It will be much, much more comfortable and easier on your skin.
BBBoo - what about the clear plastic bandage tape? I’ve got some of that already.
If you have used that previously and it hasn’t bothered tender skin, sure, that should work too. Especially if it is the kind with little micro perforations for skin ventilation, although that might not matter for just a few hour painting session. Yeh, that tape should work.has long as it says gentle or hypoallergenic somewhere on the package.
It’s just bandaids can have pretty harsh stickum that hurts facial skin.
Thanks - I hadn’t considered my delicate face.
But yeah, the tape is ventilated and it’s never bothered me when I’ve used it before.
FCD suggested I just not wear my glasses. I suppose if I wanted to do an abstract painting…
Do that…and make it a portrait of him, to hang in the front hall.
Remember a week or two ago when I posted that about 20 feet off the top of a cedar in the back yard broke off in a wind storm?
We’re having another wind storm today. About an hour ago I was sitting in the catio when I heard an almighty crack. A second later, about 40 feet of the remaining top came crashing down. It missed the deck, the catio and catio roof, and the neighbour’s trailer.
We’ll have to take the rest of the tree down soon. At least it’s not swaying as much as it was before. I need to rent a chainsaw to cut up the fallen tree tops. We’re supposed to have showers tomorrow, and light rain on Sunday.
Lucky the tree missed everything. A couple years ago a tree fell on my garage. The tree didn’t cause any damage to the garage, but the guys I hired to get rid of it put a foot through the roof.
My neighbors had a very lucky tree incident. (Different storm.) A tree went down in the 4 foot gap between their house and garage. Didn’t hit anything.
Afternoon all.
{{talky}}. Not sure how old daughter unit is, you probably told us and I forgot, but kids tend to cry at many things we poor, dumb adults don’t understand. As for work and such, I wouldn’t have your job for nothing…
flyboy, glad that so far you have avoided catastrophe with the fall tree. I concur, the rest of it (can’t be that much left) needs to come down before your luck runs out.
Cheeseburger has been assimilated and dishes placed in dishwasher, so except for soccer from 6-8 PM, the day looks clear. A long bath and Sudoku puzzle-solving looms.
All y’all take care.
My cat knows that the only time she is welcome on my lap is if I’m wearing jeans to protect myself from the needles she calls claws. Of course, any time I’m wearing jeans, she feels it’s an open invitation to climb on up, regardless of what I’m doing at the moment.
My hands feel a bit better today. Still exhausted, but I’m done lying around. My inner drill sergeant is barking at me. I need to walk some errands. All those years of working when I thought sloth would be nice, and now when I can do it, I can’t do it. Go figure.
FCM and Boo, my sunglasses get fogged up, so I tried the paper tape because I had it on hand, but it didn’t stick too well to my masks. I found some plasticky medical tape that works OK-ish, so that’s what I use now. I’ve heard good things about reusable double-sided medical tape developed for masks. I ordered some and will let you know if it works.
flyboy, whence this windstorm? It’s been quiet down here lately. Amazing it missed all the important stuff.
wordy, I think wordygirl’s tears came from being very moved, don’t you? That’s not a bad thing. The worker’s tears would’ve made me cry, too, but you did her a kindness, and I’m sure you were diplomatic.
shoe, you OK?

We’ve had our passport photos done. Suitable for mug shots, they are. Despite being nice, dammit, I have a pretty dour RBF. I’ve been told I intimidate people - can you imagine??? Moi???

Anyway, tomorrow, I’ll get the applications sent off.
I’ll be leaving in a bit over an hour from now, and I need to eat something. The session runs 5:30-7:30 - no way I can put of supper till I get home. I get terrible headaches when I get really hungry. I’m thinking a sammich in the car as I’m driving there - it’ll be a little earlier than I normally have supper, but it should hold me, and when I get home (8-ish) I can have an apple. Sounds like a plan, eh?
Meanwhile, FCD is napping and I’m killing time. I didn’t accomplish anything in the way of chores today, apart from putting away the knives that were hand-washed yesterday. Definite slug-mode today.
We’ve really enjoyed our Holland America cruises. I recommend them.
Keep the house. There’s no rule that you have to do anything with it right now. Sell it later if you decide to or keep it forever and ever. hugs I think of you often. I’m glad you’re here. moe hugs
Are you still thinking about Antartica? We are. Maybe cruise buddies someday?
I’m related to at least half the state, so it’s kinda fun to go for us.
This sounds yummy!
I knew I liked you!
talky hugs to you too.
???
We’ve had a few windstorms recently. My mom started counting the tumbleweeds that ended up in her yard. We usually end up with gale warnings, since we’re very close to the Bay/Delta.
Happy Firday everyone.
You’re related to half of Iowa?
which half? I was born in Dubuque, lived a few years in Anamosa and then Cedar Rapids til I left for college after graduating from Washington HS in 1968.
The Rips is a very serious condition, most often seen in kittens, where the subject rips around the room for no apparent reason.
