I am up and hacking up a lung. Libby has got to the point where if she is lying on me she doesn’t run when the hacking cough commences.
I am not sure if I feel better yet or not
Drinking my OJ, got a load of laundry doing and brewing coffee. Trying to decide on the state of my health and if I am up to doing anything today OR if I do do something how likely am I to pass the crud on to others as well as the likelihood of hacking up the other lung while I am out
Well, someone must have passed their crud on to me, because I’ve got it now. Dammit, I hate feeling like crap.
Hubby got home after two am. He had a blast. However, when he got home, became slightly freaked out. There was a fire rescue unit blocking my driveway and a firetruck blocking my neighbor’s driveway. He told me that he was praying that they weren’t at our house.
The fire people weren’t at our house. We don’t know which house they were visiting. I sure hope that whoever required their assistance is okay.
I’m not sure what I’m going to do today. Not much, I’m sure.
I did manage to get Christmas completely put away yesterday, so I feel good about that.
Shoshana, no snow at my place. Well, there is the faintest skiff of it on the ground, but that’s all I’ve received so far.
I am watching ‘The Shopping Bags’ on Fine Living and they are testing measuring cups and spoons. To ensure that they are accurate the went to a Food Technology Insturctor - Yes you read that correctly they flashed the typo up on screen.
Happy travels, gt, I waved in a vague airportly direction as I was hurtling down the M6 this morning on my way to visit the doting parent.
Rigs - surely a night without The Husband is worth the whole staying at home being bored thing?
CutiePie - the finished article looks great, I hope yer man appreciates the thought and effort that went into the gift as much as the gift itself. If he doesn’t, let us know and we’ll come round to sort him out.
I have deliberately avoided looking at the house you’re all talking about because I have quite enough trauma in my life today. Shadow’s visit to the vet left him with a box of pills and a lampshade for his head - unable to work out how best to feed him in his conehead state, I took it off last night to give him some tuna and obviously didn’t put it back on securely enough 'cos he managed to get it off again and get outside. We knew he couldn’t get through the catflap with the cone on, so we’d left it open for Ophelia to get in and out.
I have no idea how long he was outside but he’d managed to rip all the healing scabby bits off his shoulder and now has a horrible open gaping wound that’s weeping (not bleeding, but that’s not necessarily good, right?) which I managed to clean with an antiseptic wipe. But it means he’s going back to the vet tomorrow night to have it looked at and cleaned up again because I’m not happy about leaving it until his scheduled follow-up on Wednesday.
Trauma number two is that I still have Teh Sick and I had to go to my mum’s today which is just over an hour’s drive each way. I would have cancelled it but for the fact that today is anniversary of my dad’s death (6th January 1985) and mum wanted me to take her to the crematorium to put some plants in their remembrance garden. I really wanted to go today because it’s (obviously) not that often his anniversary falls on a weekend and on a day I can get over there, and I wanted to see his name in the remembrance book.
They have three copies of the book and there used to be a time when you could phone and arrange to visit and they would make sure a copy of the book was open on the day’s entry you wanted to see. But they don’t do that any more because they’ve been told by the insurers that the vellum in the books is getting damaged too quickly and that’s largely because of the number of times the pages get turned. So now they only display two books and only turn the pages once a day. If you want to look at a different day’s entry, you can do so via a screen in the room where the books are displayed, and that will show you a digital photograph of the entry you’re after. But it’s just not the same.
Anyway, I declared myself fit enough to drive over there this morning but have been feeling gradually more and more grotty all day so now I’m home again and very glad to be here. And also glad in a sad kinda way to have been there and seen dad’s name again.
Back from breakfast and a stroll thru Home Depot. I’m looking for an 18" wooden stool with a round seat. How hard should it be to find such a thing? Lots harder than I thought. No luck at Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Target. We saw some 24" stools at AC Moore’s, but I’d rather get one the right size from the start than cut one off. Plus they were $27, which is way too much for an unfinished stool. **FCD ** said he’d make me one, but he’s still making my end tables that he started a year and a half ago. I’m going to shop on line.
I’ve got the first load of dirties in the washer, and at least 2 more loads on deck. Maybe 3, if I decide to do jeans. I’ve got 5# of shrimps thawing in a pot of water - we’ll have scampi for supper and I’ll probably just steam the rest. I’ve also got 4 cukes, so I’ll make some cuke-onion salad, just 'cause. Mostly, tho, I’m gonna be a bum.
Sorry you’re sickies, **MamaTigs ** and Taters and mmmmmmmm and BooFae! Get well soon and keep your germies to yourselves. KTHXBYE.
I just woke up from an extremely unsuccessful nap due to a necessity to run to the bathroom. I know, TMI. Now I feel like I could puke. And the nap was unsuccessful before anyways because somebody let the damn roving schnoodles bust through my door, rifle through my belongings, and jump up on the bed stand on top of me and stare down at me.
Now I’m starving again. And there’s nothing to eat here except for leftover instant mashed potatoes. Yum-my.
Am back from store, and getting gas for car and returning DVD and have had lunch, but can’t go on bike ride because older kids are at Youth Service rehearsal and The Husband is still not home, so no one to be with #2 son.
I might take a nap in addition to the bike ride…
Recommend a good book, please.
Oh, and I’m sorry so many have Teh Scik. There oughta be a law or something…
My house is a mess, the Wife has the place torn up as she de-Christmases the house. My kitchen is a mess from breakfast, and I’m too tired to care.
The new cat is having a ball. He has been given split names - the wimmen folk insist on callling him Lovie . I say that’s far too wimpy a name for a cat. I’ll call him Bear, because of his massive paws.
Well, I found a stool on line that I wanted - and it was only $30 - plus it was steel, not unfinished wood. Shipping was $79. Um, I don’t think so. Back to shopping…
Actually, she didn’t slump on the floor. Dricing Husband did, but it was from overeating at the restaurant. He kept moaning that he couldn’t drink enough.
All you sickies, get better! Or at least get sick on your boss’ time and not on the weekend! (unless you don’t get paid sick days, in which case… just get well fast, I guess)
Evening. Tired – started out early today, taking **SpecialTeen **back to school in Jerusalem, then learning first hand what getting into Tel-Aviv in the morning looks like…
Then chauffeuring Terrible Twin[sup]TM[/sup] (type-F) in the afternoon.
Did I mention I’m tired? And bored. **Rigs **-- you still bored too?
ETA: And yet again, I end up first on a page without even noticing it :smack:
Yes, still bored and am now waiting for The Husband and Daughter to finish something so that The Husband and I can ride bikes to the library. (I asked him if he wanted to join me–I’m nice, dammit!).
And from being quite warm, I am now freezing cold. Gah.
Libby is so mad at me right now she is attacking my feet and giving me evil looks.
Now that she has all her shots and has been spayed I am still not happy about letting her outside. She is still little and there are some gigantic cats in this neighbourhood that come and look though my french doors at her. I went outside to water my patio plants and she snuck out behind me. I noticed when I was re-filling my watering can that I had an escapee sniffing around the yard. So I slowly went and grabbed her. Holy cow was she pissed. Yowling and scratching and claws and everything! Little bugger
I am folding laundry and I have opened up all the windows and got fans going to get some fresh air in the house to chase those germs out.
I took advantage of the indecently warm weather and sorta klnda cleaned the garage, then hosed off the driveway. The BabyBear is exploring the basement, while Marty and Cuervo are here sniffing the house wondering if he’s still here.
I HAVE WINDOWS OPEN!!! It’s January 6th, and it is 60 amurkin dee-grees here.
The rest of my day will consist of measures of football, reading, re-heated roasted chicken for dinner, and perhaps a movie tonight after the new Simpsons.
I made a cheese ball and a pineapple cream cheese dip for the Epiphany party. We’re taking a bottle of wine to share also. I got a box of Ritz Crackers from the Dollar General for only a dollar. I also witnessed what has to be the neighborhood cat lady. She bought 10 25 lb. bags of Friskies dry cat food!
Shrimp scampi is in the fridge waiting to be broiled. Critters are fed. Last load of laundry is in the dryer. **FCD ** is snoring on the couch. I found the stool I wanted on another site, and the shipping was only $9, not $79. Plus the stool itself was $24, not $29. So in about a week, I’ll have a new seat for in my studio. Which is great - the bench/stool/thing I’ve been sitting on is very uncomfortable.
And on top of all that excitement, I think I’ve gotten rid of the 6 doors that we replaced in the bedrooms and bathrooms. A woman is coming to get them on Tues, although when she calls I need to make sure she understands that these are just doors, not doors with frames.
Guess I should dump some rice into the steamer - by the time it’s done, it’ll be suppertime. I’m thinking green beans, too. And the cuke salad I made.
