Wow. Ya fooled me. I actually opened this thread while browsing. I saw FAS in the title and thought maybe it had something to do with the Federation of American Scientists. I knew they tended to keep a close eye on the military, so I thought maybe the thread had something to do with accountability on interesting military projects or something. What can I say, I’m a sucker for a conspiracy theory.
For my part, I’ll name the following dopers:
Eve Geobabe AntaresJB Johnny L.A.
And since you brought him up, I’ll say that Earl Snake-Hips Tucker has, in my opinion, the coolest SDMB name ever.
Found it browsing, and I recognized the title from the most boring subject thread. Figured there would be some sort of silliness going on here (having not been mentioned, I guess I couldn’t have found it vanity-searching, eh?).
I wouldn’t presume to suspect anyone of vanity, so I’ll just drop some doper names at random and see if they show up:
Ha! I almost never do vanity searches (only when I’m looking for a thread I’d already posted in or started and can’t find). But I am an inquisitive rascal. And this thread kept popping to the top with an indecipherable (to me) title.
Let’s see if I can add anything to it:
Flamsterette_X thinksnow Zappo FairyChatMom tanookie welby exgineer Spiritus Mundi Francesca Gundy Wintermute Hamlet
Which is a mix of some people I see here a lot and some people that I miss because I don’t see them here at all anymore.
Good grief, I opened this thread out of interest based on the title. Come to find out I was actually mentioned. Since I do vanity searches once every couple of months I may never have known I was mentioned in this. Just to add
I about crapped my pants when I saw this thread! (which would be a fun thread in and of itself, don’tcha think??)
I have a degree in accounting, though I now work as a budget analyst. So while I have nothing to contribute in re discontinued operations, I had to check out the thread. I had a feeling it wasn’t really going to be about GAAP.
I’ll see your list of Dopers, and raise you one Anthracite!
Yes, FAS does stand for that as well (we use it at my company) - and it’s a miracle the Financial Accounting Standards Board hasn’t pounded that particular fixed asset software company into oblivion for daring to possess the same initials.
It is so nice to see fellow accounting geeks…those of you with exciting careers, please take a moment of silence to recognize our dreary endeavors to insure all financial statements are prepared according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
:: solemn silence ::
Carry on, then!
I would also like to see Zenster, Q.E.D., and all the neighborhood folks (Zyada, Lord Jim, BottledBlondeJeanie and many others) - I missed the Friday lunch today due to restating our financial statements - thanks to FAS #144.
Yes well, it’s this sort of blinked Philistine pig ingnorance I’ve come to expect …
Oooh look … something bright and shiny!
I never do vanity searches. Who needs to when you have Pit threads cropping up so often you can set your watch by them? I was dragged into this thread by my hair, but now that I’m here I’ll mention some of my favorite new poster names:
7 up yours
Satisfying Andy Licious
Weird Al Einstein
scout1222, I see your Anthracite and raise you one Polycarp.
