Never heard of this guy. He looks a little like the before picture of Willem Dafoe.
Probably best known to Americans for portraying Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
He’s also the star of that horrible Harry Potter prequel series. I’d bet more Americans saw him there than as Hawking.
When you’re in a thread about actors that other people don’t like, it’s probably not a good idea to get upset that other people don’t, you know, like, an actor.
Also, Oliver has 17 Emmies and two Peabody Awards.
Or to point out their military service record.
Also, listing the awards an actor I don’t like has won is an inane appeal to authority. I don’t like them, listing awards given to them isn’t going to make me suddenly like them.

Gut level, I just don’t react to either of them favorably
That is one thing, making you decide you wont watch the film simply because they are in.

I dont like John Oliver, and that seemed to make you upset. He harped upon a “fact” that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip were “cousins” without mentioning they are something like 3rd cousins, several times removed. Most people dont consider 3rd cousins to be “cousins”, and hell they dont even know theirs. In fact if your family has been in Jolly Old england for a couple hundred years- everyone else the same is some sort of cousin. He made the same crack at least 4 time I know of, likely more. That is a bald faced lie.
If you want to live in a cave and have an opinion that no one else in the free world does, that’s fine. Doint expect others to go “Yeah me too!”.

Well, I provided a link to someone else who doesn’t like him and was pretty funny in saying so, also other people here have said they don’t like him. It’s okay, you can still watch his movies, even if I don’t like them.

Not funny, Oliver wouldn’t know “funny” if he was bit by a were comedian.
Moderating:

My god, we have some weird people here- People hate on Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams. Will Smith etc.
What’s next- Jimmy Stewart? Morgan Freeman? Betty White?

But again, we have SDMBer listing actors who are proven great by awards, reviews and box office…

You seem to have missed the point of this thread. It’s about actors that make you want to avoid a movie. That’s obviously a subjective call, and it’s only interesting to say that about an actor who is moderately (or very) successful. I’m sure there are lots of terrible actors out there who rarely are in any movie, and, you know, who cares?
If you want to reply to say that you like such and so an actor, that’s okay in tiny doses. (Too much is a thread shit. A little might cast light on why people react differently to various actors.) But to imply that other posters are wrong about wanting to avoid actors because they are famous, have acting awards, or for God’s sake, are good at things unrelated to acting … that’s definitely a thread shit.
Drop it right now. And everyone else, please don’t reply to those posts any further.
Steve Harvey. Has he been in any movies? If so, I wouldn’t want to see it.
My wife cannot stand Woody Harrelson, absolutely refusing to watch anything in which he appears. Last night we were looking for something to watch and came across “TransSiberian,” which we had watched many years ago and I recalled being pretty good, worthy of a re-watch. Lacking anything better, I put it on. She stayed glued to her i-Pad through most all of it. It’s still a pretty good movie, but even I thought he was miscast and annoying, and I’ve never understood his appeal.
Gosling, Ryan. I’ve yet to see him perform a role as a professional actor would; his name is absurd; he looks like a stunted growth.
As far as I’m concerned, he and Vin Diesel are the same person.
Elvis. He makes my skin crawl.

Tom Cruise from the beginning. His ego shows in all of his works
I think he has a lack of confidence (which isn’t incompatible with having a big ego) that shows in his acting. There’s a try-hard quality to it that prevents him from disappearing into a role like other, better actors. I thought it was really noticeable in Magnolia. I know some lauded him for how he did in that movie, but to me his performance screamed “Look at me, I’m Acting!”
Maybe I missed it but I’m surprised to not see Kevin Costner in this thread. I mentioned him in another similar thread, describing him as an “arrogant fence post” because he is so wooden as an actor, yet seems overly cocky and sure of himself in everything he does.

Wow, the list is longer than I’d have thought. Per wiki, Steve Harvey - Wikipedia,
2003 The Fighting Temptations Miles Smoke
2003 Love Don’t Cost a Thing Clarence Johnson
2004 Johnson Family Vacation Mack Johnson
2004 You Got Served Mr. Rad
2005 Racing Stripes Buzz the Fly Voice only
2008 Still Singing
2009 Madea Goes to Jail Cameo appearance
2012 Think Like a Man Cameo appearance
Wiki knows all…
Bruce Willis, with qualifiers.
He has done some movies that I did like. Most of them had less of him in them. But, if his name is at the top of the cast and the movie is not Bandits, I will most likely avoid it.

Totally agree with you on that one, been avoiding him for at least three decades.
Take David Caruso, please.
