Actors that you just can't stand to watch

He’s the first one I thought of. But he was in one movie I really liked – Stranger than Fiction. It’s like Jim Carrey who I’ve hated for decades. I avoided The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for ages because he was in it. I finally watched it and loved it. But there’s no other movies I’ve liked them in.

Funny thing about Stranger then Fiction … that was the only film I ever saw in which Will Ferrell didn’t act like Will Ferrell. Maybe that is why you enjoyed it. I liked it as well.

But some of the very worst movies in this world … IMHO … are the ones that star Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.

Can’t stand him in anything else, but in The Truman Show and Man On The Moon he was just brilliant.

Ha! That’s because he was just a character written by Emma Thompson! There is no real Will Ferrell.

Jerry O’Connell. Peaked with Stand By Me, and has made everything else he has been in worse, including that kangaroo movie. Yes, he made a horrible movie much worse.

I have a friend who’s been trying to get me to watch The Majestic for ages, and Frank Darabont (director) is one of my faves, but I dunno–there are so many shitty zombie films still unwatched… .

Jude Law- I used to like him but then he played the saddest sack of a man in Closer and I just can’t unsee him as that guy. It’s sad really, he just played the part too well.

Adam Sandler. Every time I see his stupid face and hear his smarmy, intellectually-challenged shtick, I want to punch him. The only exception is the Hotel Transylvania movies, which I loved him in. I guess I’m okay as long as I don’t have to look at him.

My other one is Zach Braff. I haven’t actually seen him in anything because I can’t stand his face so much I change the channel when I see him on.

Jane Fonda. I will not watch a movie with her in it. Thankfully her career seems to be over.

Felicity Jones. I’ve seen her in like two movies, but gosh she stunk things up in them. Yes, one of them was Rogue One.

Another vote for Will Ferrell. It’s almost as if he tries too hard, in his roles. If I like a movie that he’s done–and I do like Anchorman–it’s because of the performances of the rest of the cast, and the plot.

I’m 82% with you on this. I think he did well in “… Hollywood” and “Wolf of Wall St”, a few others, but most of the time he seems he’s trying to hard to be someone he’s not.

Wait. No. The role was first offered to Leo, who turned it down to do Titanic.

I don’t know what it is, but I can’t stand watching Donal Logue try to act. I mean, I think he’s not a great actor, but he must exude some kind of pheromone that travels through my TV set because I feel extreme aversion for no logical reason.

You may not enjoy the movie The Aeronauts then. Though I did, it was actually really good.

I totally agree, I cannot sit through any Will Ferrel movie, and I would also say the same about Hugh Grant

You hit two of my three. Tom Hanks, although I thought he was okay in Big, Meryl Streep, only I thought she was okay in Silkwood.

My number three is Matthew McConaughey, only I thought he was tolerable in True Detective. But also, I thought True Detective was mostly a bloviating piece of shit, with some great moments, but way too few of them. Also I’m with the people who think McConaughey looks like he smells bad. Pretty funny to find out that is true!

Number four is Jennifer Garner. I would like to pummel her. No particular reason. She just looks eminently slappable, and really, I am not a violent person. Or a pie in the face. A hot lemon meringue pie. Yes.

I would like to have seen that movie about the bad singer Florence Foster Jennings, but I completely lost interest upon learning Streep was the lead. I avoided movies where Hanks played Walt Disney and Mr. Rogers (not that I would have seen the Mr. Rogers movie anyway). In movies I’ve seen where Jennifer Garner has appeared she has been far enough down the credits list to not bother me but I hate her anyway.

I agree with one small exception.

I saw Klute when I was just coming into puberty and it had pretty much the same effect on me as an atom bomb. It had nothing to do with her acting. Even Donald Sutherland seemed to do a shitty job - which was extremely unusual for him. I really enjoyed everything he ever did.

But it was the subject matter. I was just coming into my own and wondering when and how I could ever lose my virginity (stupid word for a male - there needs to be another word for a male). Jane Fonda’s character in that film - the things she talked about and the things she did just sent me into raptures.

Did you see Invincible? Are you a fan of football?
In that film he plays a part time bartender in Philadelphia who is having a terrible life and then one day, the heavens open up and the hand of God alights on his shoulder and asks him, "How would you like to play football with your home town’s NFL pro team?

Anyone who has ever dreamed of being a pro athlete would have a very hard time resisting a premise like that. The only downside was the Philadelphia Eagles. I was shocked to learn they had actually won the Superbowl once. I never knew that. I certainly never expected that. But I like the film. It was hard not to like it.
