My car turned white last night.
Good morning! I’m at work sans supervision! WOOHOO!!! **FCD **is taking the next couple of days off because he worked the last 2 weekends. Not that his absence affects me, other than having to drive in myself. I’ve got stuff to do so I can keep myself occupied for the rest of the week. What we don’t know is how long I’ll stay employed. Being contractors reliant on gov’t contracts, and seeing as how our elected officials are too consumed with self-interests to do piddly little things like pass a budget, and because I’m a temp, I know I’m the first on the chopping block. Not that I’m worried - it’s just a fact of life.
We were talking money last night - specifically, our plans for the next few years till we both retire. We looked at what we need to exist, what we need to maintain our lifestyle as is, what we think we’ll have, and what we think we need to have set aside as a cushion. It’s a pretty difficult conversation to have in that we don’t know how long we’ll live, we don’t know what, if any, big health issues loom, we don’t know about Medicare, we don’t know how much prices will go up in the next 20 years… so while $X in the bank looks like a lot of money today, 10 or 15 years from now, it may look like petty cash. Still, we think we have some workable numbers and a plan of sorts.
Higlet was lots better this morning - not entirely her old self, but pretty close. She was eating when I left, so that’s a good sign. But she keeps jumping up and down off the sofa and the bed - that’s not so good. We need to take her out to potty on the leash because she’s not supposed to go running for the next week. Good luck with that one. But it’s good to see her more like her normal self - last night, she was whimpering and in pain. Poor baby…
And that’s all I’ve got. It’s still mild here, but the temps are supposed to drop and we might get snow overnight. Thus endeth the news from southern Merrylande!
Happy Thursday!
Blurf.
According to all the weather alert messages on my phone when I woke up this morning, it was thunderstorm Armageddon overnight. I didn’t hear a damned thing.
Didnt get blown away here in Southron VA, but there was a wind gust at Langley at 75 mph. Kept waking up to the wind gusts last night. They are mentioning the “S” word here too for tomorrow but only a light dusting.
Other than that the only thing I gots to look forward to today, is that I am leaving at 2pm vice 5pm as this is the end of the month and I can’t go over a certain number of hours. Yipee.
I made sure the “no snow” signs were upright and pointed in the direction of where any snow might come from.
Glad Higgs is feelin’ better MOOOOOOM. The poor little puppeh.
In other news, blurf.
Yesterday I went for a walk outside quite comfortable in a t-shirt and capri pants. Today there is snow on the ground and blustery wind. And tomorrow when we’re going to go traipsing all around town at night it’s going to be a low of 10 degrees!
it’s wicked windy 'round here, but so far no downed power lines.
**rosie **- at the risk of stirring up bad ju-ju - when is your house supposed to sell?
Very windy here but still relatively mild. I guess the cold is a tad slow making its way to St. Mary’s county.
Oh, and Spidey, I’m glad you didn’t mention the lacy silk thong before we’d met I’m pretty sure it would have made lunch just a little weird… Not judging, mind you, just sayin’…
OK, back to work with me! Stop being so distracting!!!
blurf
Indeed.
FCM - the contract has been signed - just waiting to here if the buyer got his mortgage
January, go home. You’re drunk.
We still have to live through February in the Northern Hemisphere. February is the scary month.
Weird day. Water aerobics was disappointing as was the email I got when I got back to my car.
Hope it gets better.
Man, I hope so, I’ve been working on it all month!
Survived the storm. Up, caffeinated, off to irk
{{{{Sticks}}}}}
Good luck, rosie!
I hate it when things are disappointing. Stupid things.
When did it get so busy at work? Oh, yeah, when THREE people from the apps team are out, a senior tech from our team is still “trapped” in Vail, we haven’t caught up on computers being rolled out from last Monday, and half the new hires don’t have documentation for this coming Monday.
I’m told the company’s putting a hiring freeze on for a couple of weeks. Usually, this is scary news, but I think it’s more to do with letting the infrastructure staff get caught up with all this moving business. I was certainly relieved to hear it.
Well, it looks like somebody is buying a stupid Harley Fatboy. As long as he doesn’t expect me to ride on the stupid thing or go to stupid motorcycle events, I guess I’m OK with it. I’ve gone to Bike Week a couple of times to be a good sport, but I didn’t enjoy it. I’m hoping I’ve proven that I’m a good wife and I don’t have to go to any more bike weeks. I just don’t like motorcycles and having to be around them is sheer torture for me.
On the other hand, I can probably use this to my advantage…
Slight work-related interruption here. The goniometers came in - they are teensy - held together by 2mm screws. Do yo know how teensy a 2mm diameter screw is? Pretty teensy! I need to do some measuring to make sure the part I designed works with these teensy screws. If not, I’ve got time to do some redesigning.
And on that note, lunch is done and I need to get back to it.
Blurf.
I went to an opera at McGill last night. It was the dirtiest opera I’d ever seen. It had a lot of sex jokes and even some toilet humour. It was very funny and very enjoyable!
Also, I survived a fire earlier on yesterday.
It was a very eventful day.
