Long day at irk (though I irked from home), and I had a three-mile walk; plus, the weather’s not great. So instead of going out, I’m making a pizza out of Trader Joe’s pizza dough, Trader Joe’s Quattro Formaggio, Trader Joe’s mozzarella, Trader Joe’s Volpi pepperoni, Trader Joe’s sliced black olives, and a sauce made from tomato paste, a little water, Italian seasoning, and garlic. (Alas, anchovies were countermanded. ) I’ll put it in the oven as soon as the oven heats up to 475º Ferret Height.
Evening all. The storms passed through around 11am, only lasted an hour or so but heavy rain, high winds and thunderbolts and lightning (very very frightening) kept me pinning in the house. Did go to the gym but the swimmin’ lanes were clogged so it was whirlpool and sauna only today.
Then decided to take a page from Swampy’s book and go to the Golden Corral buffet for dinner. While driving I kept hearing this ‘cheeping’ noise as if there was a bird trapped somewhere in the car. In was disconcerting enough that I pulled over and looked over and around and inside my car to see if anything had been trapped there, but nothing. As I got on the xpressway, it got louder and I almost decided to come back and find a auto shop, but then I touched the automatic window buttons and presto!–the noise went away. Apparently I had left a window open just enough to twitter at me. So that solved, I proceeded to the GC.
If swampy hasn’t praised it enough, Golden Corral is a pretty good deal, IMHO. For $20 I got soup and salad, a main course (Pot roast and french fries with roll) and dessert (brownie and pecan pie) with a Coke (+2 refills). Admittedly the soup, salad and dessert were relatively small, but getting a 3-course meal the way you want it for that price ain’t bad.
So I am home with a full belly and apparently working bowels (final test will be tonight), so all is right with the world.
Boo fae, Congrats!!
Sari, Yahoo!!! for Ripple!
I think I stuck you with the “Morty” tag, usually your Mumper name is a play on your Straight Dope name or something you say about yourself (ask JtC sometime how she got hers). Glad it works for you, I also considered “Mort the Wart” (Heinlein fan here) but thought that might be a little too much…
Works for me.
Oopsie, I admire your willingness to persevere on the tattoo removal. And glad your prescription is working well for you; I go about every two years and so far they have been mild upgrades.
FCM, you do more than enough for the kids as is; weekends should be time for you and FCD.
VanGo, I imagine TJ’s will survive the weather and still be there for you once the gunk is gone.
Ummmm,No. Just keep making the butter and cheese.
OK, need to finish some paperwork and then some internettin’ before bedtime rolls around. Catch all y’all on Sattiday.
The one where dogbutler has a front row seat to the crazy
So after Smalls, The Senior Shouting Officer had me go and load in Orange 32, which started out fine. But when the drivers started coming in, one of them wasn’t happy with the loading of his package car, and said something to the Orange 32 PT supervisor. And accidentally touched him. Which sent the Sup into a 30 minute rage that continued even after the driver left, and The Senior Shouting Officer talked to him twice(once in the building, once in the yard). I get the feeling dude is going to be promoted to customer soon. But other than that…
Also I dreamed that I was trying to straighten a disaster of a store(which somehow including the upstairs parking lot at my apartment which was filled with Brown package cars. Plus I had to dodge the Meth-ed up Hell Child.
Yay! < skritches Ripple >
Yay boofae!
Mmmmm…tasty abominations…
You need to smoke a lot more weed. Or get a cat, I think you need fur in your life.
Office drama is the best isn’t it. At least when you haven’t accidently been swept up in it just by being in the same state.
It doesn’t have to be anything particularly interesting. My first mumper name was unknown which kinda disappointed me cause I was hoping they would pick up on me being an obvious Douglas Adams fan.
I was all good with that until the day I was innocently standing in line at a convenience store when some guy ran in the doors and backhanded the young lady standing in front of me.
As an old, fat disabled woman, I am pretty invisible PLUS, folks don’t think about the upper body strength one builds when supporting their entire body weight with one arm on every other step. I don’t have one of those little whimpy tube canes, mine is a 1 1/2 inch thick carbon fiber fighting cane that is FAA approved. (Yes, hubs did buy it for me, how did you guess?).
Digression over, I was so shocked at seeing someone being violently attacked right in front of me that I wound up for a home run and wacked the jerk on the head so hard that I split his scalp (LOTS of blood happened), knocked him out and went on to break his shoulder in the down stroke.
JtC is short for Jane the Cane and I like that one a lot.
Lily (susan) didn’t like any of the nicks we came up for her so she suggest things until everyone was happy. Except she still hasn’t told us if she wants one L or two.
We used to like to go, but haven’t been back since the world ended. How do they work now? It sounds like you went through a cafeteria sort of line and didn’t get to take little bits of everything but had to take one regular sized serving of one thing? Where’s the fun in that?
Yeah, that’s pretty much my plan. Nothing is broken, no need to fix it.
band name!!
As soon as roommie heals, it’s dog and cat time.
So…After posting, I put an English muffin in the toaster and noticed wisps of smoke and a strong burning-bread smell. I unplugged it, cleaned the crumb tray (which was already pretty clean), turned the toaster over and shookit. I could see NO crumbs or anything burnable in there. I could HEAR something rattling, but in a compartment I couldn’t get to. I couldn’t remove the bottom because the screws were weird–requiring not a flathead nor a Phillips head (I have enough of those to unscrew the head of every Phillip in the US.) nor an allen wrench. Two hours later, I gave up. I walked to the big box store and bought a new toaster. I couldn’t get the errands run AND go to the gym. Stoopit toaster. Walked 3 miles total in the pouring rain. Oh, well. I’ll try for the gym tomorrow.
I bet you meant to say two L’s or three.
My toaster went on the fritz. I tried to fix it for almost two hours but finally gave up and walked to the big box store for a replacement. I discovered I have only one flathead screwdriver but have enough Phillips-heads to unscrew the head of every Phillip in North America. No idea why.
It was pouring rain, so I got wet. The box store cashier was loath to put my toaster in a bag. Everyone assumes all customers drive. Respect the bipeds, I say! Free the Fleet Foot One!
MetalMouse, glad the “bird” problem was easily fixed.
Doggio, your dreams seem sane compared to your daily reality.
I just got this IM from an uncle:
Don’t know if you all have been notified. Sister Alice Lee and brother Dean are both close to dying.
I tried to call my aunt on Christmas, but she has a ‘spam blocker’ on her phone. We did visit her in November. Uncle Dean has been on the outs in the family for a couple/few decades. I saw him about six or seven years ago when he was living in Arizona. Looked like a Trumper. Last I heard, he has Alzheimer’s and is living in this state.
{{{{Flyboy}}}}
I like Lily, though Tasty Abomination is a strong runner-up.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
YES!!!
So happy to read this. Hope roommie heals really fast.
Also good news for BooFae and Sari/Ripple! What a wonderful week!
How weird am I that I read this and want an English Muffin. Somewhere I have a recipe for an English Muffin bread, which gets the texture without the extra work. Sounds like a plan for a very gray day.
LtTA (Lily, the Tasty Abominiation)?
Need to make a grocery list (including enough yeast for English Muffin bread) and then get to the grocery store. Also should do some cleaning and then learn how to work with Reaper. Hubby’s band played at the drummer’s wedding last year, and so far he hasn’t gotten around to rendering the recordings. We have about 2 months to get it done before the 1st anniversary. Hopefully can make a dent it in today.
Happy Saturday!
Too late to edit.
Or LoTA (Lily of the Tasty Abominations)
Had a time trying to fall asleep, then woke several times. Finally gave up around 6. Dammit.
I need to pick out a couple of good-for-the-freezer chicken recipes and make a shopping list so I can get what I need this morning. I want to get MIL’s freezer restocked somewhat. We do have to go to the boat and to the convenience center today, but beyond that, I’ll be in the kitchen and maybe doing laundry simultaneously. So fun day ahead.
I never did do my sewing yesterday - maybe today… maybe tomorrow…
FCD is starting to get excited and involved about doing boat stuff - it’s keeping him from thinking constantly about his dad. That’s definitely a good thing. He’s still not sleeping great, but this morning, I had an email from him with a link to some boat stuff, so at least while he’s up in the middle of the night, he’s still thinking boat.
Alrighty then - onward! Happy Saturday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 59 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 77 and N.O.S. for the day. A few degrees cooler for the low and high than it’s been the in the past week. Tomorrow is first Sunday brunch over to the church house. Thus, today I shall make an Eyetalian cream sheetcake, a corn casserole, and a gallon each of sweet and unsweet tea. Eh, that’ll keep me off the streets and outta trouble, I reckon. Any need to feed today will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips etc.
JtC The hog trough Golden Corral is still a wander around and put as much or as little as you want of all the foodstuff on your plate place. Like MetalMouse said it’s still a good bang for your buck cause you can do that. However the cheeseburger sliders they make are just nasty.
{{{FlyBoy}}} sorry about your aunt and uncle.
Nellie glad you were able to get a replacement toaster. Life would be awful if one could not have toast or an English muffin!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Let the kitchen domesticity begin! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 6c/43f with a predicted high of 7c/44f today, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Mostly cloudy? More like mostly cloudy fucking bullshit!” It’s true, it is definitely cloudy out there, and chilly. I know this, I have ventured out to the gym this morning for 360 HIIT, spin and dumbbell hustle. Tracker thing says I have burned 1173 cals, but some of that is down to just being still alive
sari yay for the good news about Ripple!
nellie glad you were able to replace the toaster, to be without would be unutterably woeful. My cooker has a separate grill section so I don’t require a toaster (unless the oven breaks!)
flyboy sorry to hear about your rellies, even if you were not particularly close, an imminent loss is still a loss.
doggio good news on roomie’s operation, and even better news that you will soon be welcoming new furries into your lives.
Today’s plans have included going to the gym then home for restorative cups of tea and a shower. We are heading into town soon for lunch at the Good Chinese Place, then a few errands. I need to stock up on birthday cards as March is a busy month and I only had enough cards at home for half the birthdays this time round! We also need to buy a few spare plates, we had a couple of casualties this week with crockery so we’ll pick up some cheap ones today - they don’t need to be anything special as they’re ones we use mostly for cat food/treats etc.
Other plans include picking up fresh meat from the market, and some fresh veg too. It’s my turn to cook tonight, I’ve already got meat out of the freezer for that but haven’t decided what to make yet. I also need something to cook tomorrow for lunches to take to work for my three days on campus next week.
Thanks for the good wishes on my new job thingie, I am looking forward to working with different people and hopefully somewhere with a bit less stress attached to it when it comes to the summer and end of session work. They were hoping for two weeks notice, my boss is holding out for three weeks as we have a lot going on in our current team, and I can see it will take me quite a while to put a handover document together with all the different balls I’ve been juggling. Soon be time to wave goodbye to Languages, Cultures, Art History and Music…and say hello to African Studies & Anthropology, and Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology!
Sorry for the confusion, swampy’s right, you take what you feel like eating, as much or as little as it may be. But the individual portions of things like soup (small bowls) and desserts (very thin slices of pie) are controlled (in that you have to go back 2-3 times if you want a heaping helping).
Dicey, in my experience there is only one LOTA: https://image.nobleknight.com/t/jpg900/tylsm-lota.jpg albeit your clever usage is fascinating.
FCM, glad that FCD has some other interests, even if they might cost some $$$ what with the boat.
flyboy, sorry to hear about aunt and uncle, even if you were not real close to them they are still family.
nellie, enjoy the new toaster.
doggio, sometimes I do worry about you in that nuthouse of a place. You take care now.
Nothing much planned for today, the dishes need washing and I really should clean up around the house some, but we’ll see. At least the rain has departed for the time being, so while it will be cooler (high of 65F) it should be blue skies for once.
Onward to find provisions for the morning repast. Take care all.
MIGHT?!?!? More like surely will. This isn’t our first rodeo, or regatta, if you prefer. We’ve owned boats most of our 39 years together, so the only surprise is when there is no surprise. But one saves for retirement and this is the retirement we saved for… well, sorta. At first, we thought it’d be on a sailboat, but a trawler is more suited to our current situation. And ya gotta have a hobby, right?
And how can you be sure that he’s not the head nut??
I think it’s about time to shower and head to the grocery store. The sun is up and it’s practically mid-morning. I gots stuff to do!!!
LtTA (Lily, the Tasty Abominiation)?
LTA? Very nice and confusing.
