It’s trying to snow. Well, it can try – as long as it doesn’t stick.

Driving back from the supermarket I thought, ‘Good day to make rot post.’

Howdy Y’all! All the various things for tomorrow’s First Sunday brunch are made. Go Me! We have also accomplished nappage and some day drinkin’ on the back porch as it is 78 Amurrkin and N.O.S. outside. TPTB (AKA the church ladies) decreed that we will have our St. Patrick’s celebration next Sattidy for various reasons I shall not go in to right now. Thus, I have been involved in a text chain about it throughout the day. ‘Tis my duty to prepare the corned beast and to cook the cabbage and various root veggies, as it is my wont to do so. So next Firday eve I shall be preparin’ corned beasts and next Sattidy shall be an afternoon of cookin’ stuff so’s folks can eat. Oh, and I get to sit through a three hour (hopefully shorter) video thingy about the results of the Parish survey after deheathenization tomorrow. Envy me that!

Nettie sorry the job turned out to be a scam. Hopefully sump’n just right is on the horizon.

All my aunts and uncles on both sides are gone. The two youngest uncles died two and three years ago respectively.

My daughter just went through months of submitting applications; a couple of hundred by her estimation. Many of them were scammers. One guy started hitting on her during an interview, saying things like “you’re kinda spicy!” She finally got an offer after three interviews with a place not far from where she lives, but it’s a shit job of mainly making phone calls trying to find technicians to do cheap work. They sit in two rows of cubicles, at the end of which is the “babysitter” who, if she sees them idle, will give them “busy work” to do, like cleaning up the kitchen (!). She continues the hunt.

nettie That sucks. Consider many bad words uttered on your behalf.

In my wonderful news, the washing machine decided it didn’t want to fully spin the last load. And I can’t figure out why. The damn thing is only like 6 years old. I’ve been slogging through the google search to try to find a cure, but no luck so far. I can get it into diagnostic mode, but it is not showing any fault codes. At least I can throw the soggy clothes in the dryer.

Lots of errands today, I made it to TJ’s, the booze store, and the regular grocery store and returned with entirely too much stuff. Spag and meatballs tonight, beef stew tomorrow, but alas, I couldn’t find parsnips for the stew.

Stay safe, y’all.

We went out for a dozen oysters and beer. But someone bought all but six of the raw oysters they had, so we had six oysters, and we each had a local pint. They were expecting a shipment of oysters from the farm in an hour, but we chose not to wait.

We came home to a house smelling pleasantly of pot roast. I think it will be done around four.

I have no more aunts and uncles. My mom is the last of that group - she’s 89. FCD has 2 aunts and one uncle still living - 2 of his mom’s sisters and one of her BIL’s - eldest is 96, the other two are 79 and 80.

Productive morning - in no particular order, I got groceries, we disposed of household trash and recycling, and we got rid of the fuel/water mess from the boat. I packaged 4 big chickie tits for the freezer, and the other 2 are cooking, as is some ziti. There’s chunks of poke loin in the slow cooker on the way to becoming pulled poke. And the chickie will become of 2 casseroles - one with broccoli and alfredo over ziti, and the other mixed veggies in noodles. I’m breaking my rule and using cream of chicken soup, even tho I hate doing that, because MIL likes it. Since I don’t have to eat it, I’m not too concerned. I also have 5# of russets that will become twice-baked spuds, probably tomorrow.

&%&%

And it’s now some hours later because I got interrupted. Foods have been deliverer to MIL, and we took her to DQ. I just finished loading the dishwasher and it’s sloshing along. I did the big stuff by hand and it’s all drying on the rack. Poke has been pulled and when it’s cool, I’ll bag it for the freezer. Nothing else to be done today. Well, except chillage. Laundry and baking spuds tomorrow. Reading this evening. Unless something else comes up.

I’ve been out of town but I think I’m caught up now.
Sorry about the scammer, Nettie.
Glad Ripple is doing better.

I know there’s much more, but my brain bone is fried. So {{{{{hugs}}}}} all around.

I have one aunt still living, my Dad’s sister, though she’s doing poorly these days. When she goes it will be a great loss to the world.
Both my parents are long gone, as are both of my brothers, and many of my cousins.

We made bulgogi beef over rice last night. It was pretty good. The rest of the roast will become stew tonight. I’ve been jonesing for a good stew.

I’m glad St. Paddy’s day is coming up as that means that corned beef will once again be available at the grocery. I will buy as much of it as Wifey will allow and stick it in the freezer for later.

I’m still waiting on the electrophysiologist to arrange to meet with me. (Yes, I spelled that right.) I want to try the ablation. The meds I’m taking to keep me out of V-Tac nauseate me for 2-3 hours every morning, and that’s a drag. Also, my blood glucose has been high, so I added the Glipizide back in to my daily feast of drugs yesterday. I feel like I’ve opened my own pharmacy here.

Gettin’ old sure ain’t fer sissies.

Y’all take care of yourselves out there.

I’m feeling a bit restless at the moment. I’m not currently binge-watching any particular show(s), and it turns out there’s only so much random TV I can watch at a time! Who knew?! I bought myself a fancy LEGO set a couple of months ago, and I’m thinking it might finally be time to crack the seal on the box and at least look at the instructions; maybe even put a few bricks together. I haven’t touched LEGO pieces in decades. It’ll keep me busy until I‘m ready to return to the couch and eat my roasted chicken sliders dinner…unless it turns out that I actually don’t have the patience for such things. Wish me luck! :crossed_fingers:

Sounds like a great time! :ship:

Oh no! I’m sorry. :frowning:

“Too much stuff”??? I recognize those words individually, but not in that order…

Late afternoon here and like a true sloth, I accomplished nothing but nappage this afternoon, so will start on my Big Bowl O’Sallit in a bit and see if that motivates me. At least I think I now have all my bills on Automatic payment and e-billing (so no checking the mailbox), so Casa Rat is moving into the 21st Century.

Nettie, >bad word< on the job falling through. >Very bad word< for the folks playing games with other people’s lives; they are a bunch of >Samuel Jackson-level bad word<. Hope the weather isn’t too severe.

Oopsie, Never tried the Boar’s Head sammiches, may have to give them a second look. And be careful with those Legos, you don’t want to be stepping on one of them in the dark… :astonished: :astonished: :astonished:

I try to achieve that weekly, if I can. Being retired makes it a little easier…

Flyboy, enjoy the pot roast.

Lily, the Northern lights are on my ‘to do’ list now that continent #7 is in the book. Seen the Southern Cross, so the Northern Lights seems to be a logical thing to do. And cruises around and in the fjords of Norway can be pretty beautiful.

Cookie, I make charitable contributions but without a mortgage I can never make it to the itemized deduction level; so I usually just take the standard deduction and that works out fine for me.

VanGo, could it be the load was imbalanced? (I know, you checked that first). Mine did something like that with my sheets last time, but when I restarted it worked just fine. Best of luck.

FCM, you tire me out just reading all you do. I really do need to do some housecleaning, but sitting at the computer is so much more relaxing…

OK, get some salad in me and contemplate the evening sh…, uh, cr…, umm, visit to the WC. Take care all.

I absolutely hate when that happens. Generally I’m anxious about something. Thus, it happened this past Sunday night.
Also I’m glad that FCD has something that’s a fun hobby for him. He deserves to enjoy his retirement, as do YOU!

It snowed yesterday afternoon, evening and overnight. The next door young man came over and shoveled all the sidewalk area about 7pm. Hubs said we should go out to shovel some more before going to bed but I nixed that. I did contact the young man’s mom to find out what his fav cookies are so I could make some for him but she said he doesn’t like sweets. So I shoveled the rest this morning; there had also been a little rain that fell so the snow was VERY heavy, even though there was only about 1-1/2" accumulation. Then I went Krogering. Forgot to take the $6 off coupon that is good when purchasing at least $60 of groceries. Called Hubs to perhaps bring it to me but he wasn’t home. As it was, I couldn’t have used it as the total before discounts was $58.74. Then it was the Senior Day for Spartan men’s basketball; they played the Buckeyes. The Spartans have a tradition where coach takes out the Seniors, generally one by one, in the last several minutes of the game so they can kiss the Spartan logo at center court and get a round of cheers and applause. Well, the score was too close to take them out but finally when there was 5.9 seconds left, he took out all 4 of them and they all kissed the logo. Hubs is making a pot roast for dinner. He asked me to buy lipton onion soup, carrots and mushrooms. I couldn’t believe that Kroger did not have any bags of real carrots, only baby carrots. I typed this before I read flyboy’s post. Hubs is making exactly the same sans the cream of mushroom soup and he’s doing it in a crockpot.

Sounds like an AWESOME trip! Would love to go on a trip like that but Hubs health condition wouldn’t allow it. So I appreciate the nice writeup so I can live vicariously.

hear, hear!

oh Nettie I’m so sorry to hear.

Both of my parents were afterthought babies i.e. their moms were early 40’s and their next closest sibling was 6-8 years older. My parents would have been 97 and 96 last year; they passed in 2014 and 2015, respectively. So, all of my aunts and uncles have passed. About 4 of my cousins have passed.

I’m so sorry about your aunt and uncle flyboy.

Nettie, that absolutely sucks about the job.

yummy I’m still mad the chicken and brocolli soup seems to have disappeared … but they still have the chicken and mushroom tho…i tend to eat it straight from the can…

Up from naptime, having a Vieux Carré, and watching F1 practice.
I have one uncle left, plus my parents are still kicking at 81(Mom is a couple moths older than dad. Cougar). I am an uncle, though.

That sounded neat.

Sorry about the scammer, Nettie

And Guinness is on sale! :four_leaf_clover:

Aww…I’m sorry that the job didn’t pan out seanette.

I hope that the ablation takes care of your problem bumba. The side effects of the meds pretty much suck.

cat glove, even when I can find regular carrots by the bag, it seems like they’re scrawny things. Once you get them peeled, they’re nothing more than long baby carrots. I like more carrots than beef when I make a pot roast.

My mother’s two youngest (of 14) siblings are still living. They were teenagers when I was born, so they’re only 75 and 76 now. One of her SILs is still living as well. She’s the same age as my dad. On Dad’s side, he’s the last man standing, although his younger brother’s second wife is still living in her late 70s.

When I cleaned the odds and ends tote on the utility shelf today, I found, count 'em, four sets of ear buds (new in the package), three data cables (new in the package), five short extension cords (three went out to the dumpster). replacement wheels for a desk chair that I no longer own and more adhesive hooks that I don’t remember buying, than I’ll use for a long time (most went in the donation box). The take to Goodwill box is nearing capacity, so I’ll likely make that drop off next weekend.

House special soup and an aig roll were supper. Now for slothage.

This sounds like a lovely trip

Sorry about the scam job

It was good. My piece wasn’t very tender, but Mrs. L.A. commented on how tender her piece was. I used the big roasting pan this time, because I never have enough room for the potatoes and carrots and mushrooms. We didn’t get any ‘gravy’. I think, because I used the big pan with greater surface area. I used four red potatoes, quartered. Between the two of us, we ate half of one. Lots of meat left.

thats good pot roast is better the 2nd night anyhow

I’ve read all, but wow, you guys have been all sorts of busy and I’ve been a social butterfly (a margarita happened) so hopefully you all heard my mental replies!

Today was Tai-chi and it felt so nice to get a good work out after being cooped up inside for the last while. It is citrus season, so when I saw the bag of home grown lemons outside the back door of the library I didn’t hesitate to grab a few and put them in my car. Our Tai-chi instructor brought a bag of her oranges for everyone to enjoy after the work out as well.

Our yard flock ate much more than usual due to the snow and cold and I was worried because we were almost out of seed and thistle. Hubs checked and our chewy order was due yesterday and then rescheduled for today. Shortly after hubs told me that I heard the the chewy (aka FedEx) guy pulling in and opening the door, so I went to the front door in time to see him rummage around and then pull the door closed and leave.

We ran out of seed and thistle this morning so I posted on Nextdoor asking to borrow or buy a couple of cups of thistle from someone (of course the answer was yes). While discussing that, I just happened to come across a posting about a locally owned company, Olsen’s Feed and Grain, that has scholarships available for local kids that is closing on the 17th so I posted that on Nextdoor and almost instantly got thanked by someone who’s kid was applying as she typed.

This is what Nextdoor is for and is why I still haven’t quit my lead position.

A friend’s husband got a paying gig playing his guitar and singing oldies so invited us to be groupies (go to the place, buy food and drinks, tip well and applaud after each song) .

The husband is also a surplus produce hander-outer volunteer, which I thought was pretty handy. We could get dinner and music, plus I could give friend the handwarmers so her husband could hand them out Wednesday morning. They seemed pretty happy to get them, chemical handwarmers aren’t really that well known out here in the land of too much sun.

Hubs was very sweet about taking me to the venue, he can’t hear anyone in crowded rooms but knew I wanted to go and that I can’t drive after dark anymore, so came to make me happy. He never says he loves me. He shows it.

:two_hearts:
