Administrivia in the MMP

I have no idea if he saved anything to the cloud, but I’ll mention it. We’re with Consumer Cellular - not sure if they have a cloud, but I’ll check.

OUCH!!! Truly no good deed goes unpunished. Hope it feels better soon.

Well, shopping (bananas, bag O’salad, milk) is done and sammich with potato chips has been consumed. Now it is sitting-around time until the HVAC folks arrive. Have the car parked at the curb and the garage door open so they can go straight to work.

In the mundane and pointless category, I think I mentioned months ago that I was trying out various Pepsi diet products to compare and decide on. My decision has been yes, I can drink these, so I have equal stocks of Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Zero Sugar on-hand now, the Diet Pepsi is for lunch and any early-afternoon nibbles, the Pepsi Zero is for the evening meal and late-night. So far haven’t suffered any of the bad things the internet keeps telling me about diet drinks, maybe I need to start drinking more of them…

FCM, bad news on the phone, I still don’t keep much on mine, guess I’m still a Luddite at heart. Hope the data is recoverable somewhere.

talkie, echoing FCM’s Ouch!, those cans have quite large lids and are capable of delivering a healthy smack. At least it gives you the excuse to make up a story on how you acquired the bruise…

Wet one, feel better soon. I am of the opinion that you could watch a Law&Order show 24/7 all year if you had the right combination of channels…

Onward!!

Freezing rain today. The trees are all covered with ice, and the roads/parking lots are starting to freeze as well. Made an early trip to the grocery to avoid the worst of it. Temps are right at 32F, so if it drops, it’s going to be a huge mess for commuters.

Happy Monday!

Last I posted and was able to read, I was waiting to watch my Spartans on Saturday. If someone had told me that both our SG and SF would score the most season points and we scored 101 points in regulation, I would have thought I would have been very happy. However, after being up 13 with 94 seconds to go, the Hawkeyes were able to tie it up then win in regulation. Oh well. On to Nebraska tomorrow.

Lectored at mass Saturday late afternoon. Church did not have electricity or heat so there were numerous candles and everyone was bundled up in their winter coats. I used the flashlight on my phone to illuminate the reading so I could proclaim it.

Yesterday I hiked 7 miles in the woods with my friend and her significant other. She asked me where I wanted to hike and I said a particular location but then she texted that he wanted to hike a different location and she always lets him win out. Then he started saying what route we were taking and I didn’t want to make any trouble (other than correcting him how to get to marker 1); however after hiking 4+ miles, I just wanted to get back the quickest way possible so I took over. Luckily, he was agreeable, although I don’t think he was happy that we didn’t take the longer route and do close to 10 miles.

When I got home, I had to go over to another friend’s to help her unload gigantic fencing pieces (used for a HUGE freaking kennel) from her Sprinter. Her husband had surgery in December and he’s still healing and not up to it. My shoulders are starting to feel the effects now. Normally when I exercise muscles that haven’t been used lately, I start to hurt ~20-24 hrs later. I think I need to take some vitamin I (that’s what backpackers call Ibuprophen). So even though I have a lot of items on To Do List, I think it’ll be slothage for a good part of the day.

Looks like the guys are getting ready to grind the tree stumps.

OK, not so much ‘stump grinding’; they’re digging the first one out with a backhoe. They’re trying not to damage the driveway too much. Abbey went to hide under my bed.

Good luck. My oldest passed and is now a journeyman electrician. A whole new (better) world for him.

I missed all of last week’s MMP, and the last half of the one before it…I feel so out of touch with y’all! :frowning:

It was a highly unusual/very busy week:

  • Fri 2/17: Stopped work at noon, packed, took Bailey to kennel, dropped off some return items at FedEx, and drove up to MD for the jazz festival. Went to a handful of shows that evening, met up with friends, etc.
  • Sat 2/18: Virtual volunteer committee meeting from 11:00am-12:30pm (from my hotel room), then jazz festival until 2am. Also made a quick trip back to the house, because three deliveries had arrived early: two were perishable, and I didn’t want to chance leaving them on my front step for two more days. Left the hotel at midnight and was back before 1am.
  • Sun 2/19: Jazz festival from 11:30am until 2am.
  • Mon 2/20: Checked out of hotel, drove home, unpacked, went to the grocery store, picked Bailey up from the kennel, and logged onto work at 2pm. Wound up only working for a couple of hours because I was beat. Had a 2-hr exec committee meeting that night: thankfully virtual, but I had to be on camera and brief the status of the membership committee (and it ended later than planned).
  • Tues 2/21: Started catching up on everything, but work got very busy with a proposal section I’m leading: turns out two of the pieces I’m drafting need to be approved by various customers before they can go in the proposal, so there was a sudden push to do as much as possible before the end of the week.
  • Wed 2/22: Led my first membership committee meeting in the evening (virtual, only 1 hr, went well).
  • Thurs 2/23: Went to therapy and picked up some new glasses* during the day, then went out that night to hear some friends since in DC.
  • Fri 2/24: Heads down on the proposal for 9.5 hours, and at the end of the day learned that one of my employees hadn’t done something I’d requested on Tuesday and therefore wasn’t able to complete her timesheet (grrrr).
  • Sat 2/23: Had a volunteer event from 11am-2pm – happily, I only had to attend and didn’t have to set up/staff a table. Also happily, all of the conversational snow happened while I was there (and not while I was driving). :snowflake: By the time I got home I was so tired…I still hadn’t recovered fully from the jazz festival. I went to bed a little early that night.

Yesterday I felt a little better, and finally finished catching up on my volunteer administrative stuff. The afternoon and evening were all quality couch time with my doggy, my iPad, and various streaming television shows. At 9pm, though, I was suddenly exhausted: I went to bed a full hour earlier than usual, and was asleep before 10pm. My alarm went off at 7am, and so far I’m actually feeling more-or-less normal today. :crossed_fingers:

*I am super nearsighted: if I’m out of bed, I’m wearing either glasses or contacts. I mostly wear contacts if I’m out of the house, but for the last three years – with the pandemic, and with working from home being the new norm – I’ve worn glasses more often than not. I have two pairs: my “good” frames (lightweight but expensive titanium), and a backup pair (cheap acrylic). After seeing my optometrist the other week I decided to try a stronger distance prescription in my glasses, but because I was worried that it might mess up my ability to see computer screens/the TV I decided to get the update in the backup frames first. (Not ready for progressives yet! ) That’s what I picked up on Thursday. So far, so good! I’m continuing to wear this pair more-or-less constantly for a few more days, before deciding whether to get the prescription in the “good” frames updated, but I’m leaning toward it. Though I already miss the lighter frames!

Same here! :crossed_fingers:

These days I’m down to two regular online comics: Questionable Content every weekday, and xkcd every Mon/Wed/Fri.

OMG! Ouch!!

I know you meant that he passed the exam, but that could be a fun new spin on the afterlife…

Apparently the grief counseling went well - he’s going back next week. Now he’s messing with setting up the new phone - and he did find his contact list, so huzzah for that!

Got the estimate for the roof repair - $650! YOIKS! But they need to replace the entire panel - they can’t just patch it. And our truck is ready to be picked up - $535 for that adventure. Just when I think I’m finally beating VISA into submission, crap like this pops up. I need a winning lotto ticket - even a smaller prize would help - well, not the $2 but a couple thousand would be nice.

Rain has started and it’s supposed to continue all night on and off. At least we don’t have to shovel rain.

cookie we had the ice in no. Illinois last week. Many transformers blew so lots of power outages. Metalmouse saw your pic of holding the flag in Antarctica. Frosty paws!

I’m feeling better. I’m actually hungry but no appetite. Mebbe scrambled eggs and toast.

The snow started half an hour ago. The guys are still working on a stump – with a splitting maul. It was a big-ass tree, with big roots. And as I said, they’re trying not to destroy the concrete any more than the tree roots already have. (The boss guy, who’s done things around here since I moved up) has a friend who does concrete. That will be the next project. But no sense destroying it until it’s time to.

Howdy Y’all! I did get some yahd irk (general cleanup) done this mornin’ which necessitated nappage. Big excitatement in da hood today! The road is bein’ repaved! Of course that means trash hasn’t been picked up and might not be today. I guess havin’ a spiffy new road is a good trade off for delayed trash pickup. Nettie we have discussed the idea of gettin’ someone to take care of outside stuff, but haven’t moved on that yet.

WetOne hope you’re feelin’ better soonest. OYKW watches a lot of Law and Order.

MOOOOOOM glad FCD made it to grief counselin’ and is goin’ back. It really will help him, IMO. Glad he was able to recover his phone stuff. I dropped a phone in the terlet many years back. By some miracle I was able to dry it out and it still worked for several more years. Yikes on the cost of the roof and the truck!

Oopsie sounds like quite the week last week. Hope stuff settles down this week.

CatGlove you earned major points for helpin’ out your friend.

talkie ouch! Hope you are not too beat up and banged up.

BooFae appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed re the interview.

Butters homegrown maters are the yummiest!

The furniture is thwarting me. The couch is not working anywhere, and I am not moving the bookcases again! It is just too big. There is one more spot to try. If it doesn’t work there I am getting rid of the couch!

All of the beds that I’ve slept in away from home in the past few years are high enough that I nearly have to pole vault into them nellie. Nelson has learned that anything too high for him to jump into, he has to stay put until I get up. I’m sorry about your friend Bob.

Ouch seanette!

When I moonlighted in a gas station in Indiana years ago, we had an ag / marine pump for the farmers and folks needing fuel for their boats.

Today was a beast of a day. I flashed Samsung (as opposed to Motorola or Google) and the software kept crashing. My boss kept telling me that I should be running 8 phones at a time on one PC and four on the other. That was only manageable by staggering them going on. Combined with the fact I was irking in a station with too many people around, I was a bit cranky.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Trash did get picked up today. Don’t know exactly when it happened but I went down to check at five-thirty and ours and the neighbor’s trash cans were empty. I hauled both all the way back up the driveway and put them where they stay all week, cause I’m all nice and neighborly like that, dammit. I knew y’all would be concerned as to the status of our trash pickup.

Rocker well, you do have new paint, so a nice sofa in a contrastin’ color would be nice.

red sorry you had such a sucky day!

Had a chance to read some of the posts from Saturday; here are a few comments:

Morty We had numerous duplicate containers of spices as well and what I did a number of years ago was make an alphabetized list (in excel) showing name of spice, size of container, and how much was in the container. Every several years I update the list. One other thing I do is put all the savory spices on the right side of the cupboard shelf and the baking type spices on the left side. The list is printed out and posted in the front of the cupboard.

Nelli I’m so happy that the phone situation worked out pretty well in the end. In case you should accidentally misplace your phone in the future, I’d recommend that you look into getting an ap where you could go on your home computer and do “FIND MY PHONE”. Or if you have an IPhone, you could have a friend do “FIND MY FRIEND” which finds your phone. One time I went to a mass mob event at the St. Anne Basilica and afterwards in the square they had a festival type atmosphere. I was getting some food and set my phone down to pay for it, and obviously forgot to pick it up. I didn’t notice that I didn’t have my phone until 9pm that night so I called my daughter on the landline and had her do FIND MY FRIEND. She told me it was on the service drive on the other side of the expressway from the Basilica. Since Hubs was out of town, I called my brother and he came and drove me there and sure enough, there was my phone on the service drive just about a half foot from the curb. I was so lucky to get it back. I’ve had to have the kids or Hubs on occasion do FIND MY FRIEND because I mislay it every so often. All the other times it’s either been at the office or at home or in my car.

MetalMouse thank you for supporting the Girl Scouts. I was a leader for 5 years and those cookie sales helped to finance horseback riding lessons, camping trips and a trip to the Kentucky Horse Park.

Rocky First, I love your handle! I loved rocking my daughter and several nieces and singing lullabies to them in my rocking chair. Brings back wonderful memories. Your bookcases sound beautiful! Hope you will post a pic when the work is done.

Happy Moonday!

No park today. I woke up with a headache and tummy issues.
The dogs were not happy.
Barky/Humpy mom was not happy because only two other people showed up at the park and they went on the small side.
I can’t help her that the others don’t want to be around her.

It’s raining, and every time I hear a car go by on the wet road, I get chills.

I got a few things checked off the big things to do list. I could actually get three more done tonight if I push it. None are really hard; I just don’t want to do them.
One of them is deciding how to handle the annuity my mother left my son.
It’s not a huge amount and I think it might be best to just take it all at once. He’ll have to pay 24% tax on it, but the other options are spread in equal amounts over 5 years, or in equal amounts over 10 years. The total amount won’t change as it is fixed at the value it was at the time of my mother’s death, so even if the stock market goes back up, it won’t increase in value.
No matter how he takes it though, it will always fall into the 22 or 24% bracket. If he chooses the 10 year option, it will be such a small amount that it would just be piddled away. The 5-year option is a nice amount, but once again, likely to be piddled away. The lump sum is enough to do something with it. He already got a second notice, so he has to decide something.

I called the Census lady back and while she wanted to come to the house, she said we could do it over the phone. I told her I have a vicious dog here that I would need to take to daycare for her to come over, so we did it over the phone.
I was on the phone from 2:20 until 3:55.
She told me it won’t take as long next year. It seems this is a several year thing, I supposed I should feel honored, LOL.

Congrats on new job Nettie
Working from home BC (before Cerby) wasn’t too bad. Adam is quiet and not inclined to bother me much. He prefers my son, so unless he wants to go out, he ignores me.
One of the reasons I go to the park every morning is to wear out the dogs so they will sleep most of the day. Echo almost never barks, so she is not a problem. Ripple will bark sometimes, but his voice is deep and not very loud. Cerby is a problem when I am irking. I never know when he is going to go off and his bark is shrill and loud. Usually, my son will hear him and jump up and get him. Or I leave him outside. I try to irk mostly when my son is around to handle Cerby. I want to move my office upstairs where the dogs are less likely to hear noises, and if they do bark, they’ll run downstairs to do it.

I hope you feel better soon, WetOne.

Good luck with the interview, BooFae

{{{Nellie}}} the shit never ends, does it?

Ouchie {{{Talky}}}

Ooopsie, you made me tired reading all that.

I’m glad the counseling went well for FCD

Rocker, I got rid of my couch years ago and I mostly don’t miss it. Couches are cumbersome and hard to move when you need to vacuum.

I can’t believe I finished a post in one sitting.
On to the paperirk.

It’s 6pm and I’m bored. I’m tired of watching teevee. It strains my eyes to read or craft. I’m not tired so too early for bed. The good news is I’ve been without a fever for over 12 hours.

Made bean soup for supper. It was yum. Sending some to MIL tomorrow.

Other than that, it’s max chillage.

An Englishman goes to an American diner and orders the soup of the day. When it arrives he takes one look at it and says, ‘Good lord! What is this?’ The waitress says, ‘It’s bean soup.’ The Englishman says, ‘I don’t care what it’s been! What is it now?
