Ads that make you go "Damn that's a good ad."

This is my favourite of all time. Warning to guys who are hockey fans - watch alone! It will make you weep and your wife will be all . The ending is especially touching, because . . .

Lindros’s career just didn’t live up to the idea of “a million possibilities”, did it?

It’s like herding cats!

The Dutch army had a series of award winning recruitment ads three years ago.

The setup is always a very ordinary Dutch situation. A teenager reacts to it, and then he gets either a “fit” (geschikt) or “unfit” scratched in the corner off the screen.
This one is defenitely unfit.

The ads were hilarious and often admiringly parodied. They did an amazing job of conveying the idea what quiet courage, toughness (explanation, the water heater can either heat the shower or the kitchen sink, as the boys bratty sister knows perfectly well), natural leadership, strenght (doesn’t) look like when you’re sixteen and in a normal household.

I remember the Sprint commercials from back then, but not that particular one. I now have a dachshund, so I find that one particularly funny. Thanks for putting up the link!!!

And of course the to classics that everyone has already seen:

Discovery Channel ( I love the whole world)

The Sony Bravia colorful bouncing balls ad.

For more, this old thread: “Music video’s and ads vith a high: How did they DO that-factor?”

I’ve always liked the recent Dodge Dart commercials.

Commercial 1

Commercial 2

Definitely the new GE ads with Agent Smith.

A couple of new Target ads promoting Justin Timberlake’s new album.

Ad 1

Ad 2 (I suspect that if I were a woman I would find extreme hotitude happening at the 0:19 mark.)

P.S. - A fun three minute “Making of” video of Ad 1 can be seen here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X21mJh6j9i4 - never say no to Panda.

i was checking out the videos in the thread, found this one funny

and then i saw this one, and i had to stop. this is powerful stuff, and not a word uttered.

The problem from the marketers’ standpoint is an ad that makes you go “Damn, that’s a good ad - though I can’t remember what it was for.”

Little Ceasar’s had some good ones in the 90s that I really liked.

1990's Little Caesars Pizza Commercial - YouTube

I liked this one too. Tag Body Spray.

The current New York megamillions jackpot commercial is a 31 second SCREAM

The new ad with Hugo Weaving doing his “Mr. Smith” routine. Love it.

There’s a commercial for a local painting service that is pretty ho-hum, but towards the end, they have some old hag holding a little dog looking into the camera and proudly declaring “They kept the gate latched so the Colonel couldn’t run off!”

Every time I see this I get a chuckle, cuz i think to myself “You crazy old coot, the Colonel run off years ago - to get away from you.”

My $0.02

Leading to my top all time best TV moment every: The parody ad (also sponsered by McDonalds). Sadly not visible anywhere (and you probably had to be there anway), but Norman Gunstan/Garry McDonald still has some vids here and there.

ACE Hardware with the store as a [literal] house.

Before this, it was the “To Done” list.

ACE knows what piece of the market it has, and it is letting everyone know it.

I was discussing this with co-workers and my parents, is the actor in the spot, in fact Weaving?

The new Progressive Insurance commercial with ring announcer Michael Buffer, famous for his “LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLLLLLLLLLLE!” Great self-parody.

Link.
