Our animals enjoy a picture window on the second story. The more or less wire haired dachshund believes that Constant Vigilance is the Price of Freedom.
Second load in the washer, first in the dryer. I just finished cleaning all the counters with the granite polish - it sure gets dusty under the rotisserie.
Roxy is yelling because her mom isn’t shoveling cereal into her face fast enough. SIL is on a convenience center run. I’m taking a breather before pulling out the vacuum cleaner.
Exciting times at FairyChatEstates…
Afternoon all!
Still very windy, getting into work and back was fun, my car’s little but high sided, and was blowing round the road a bit. It’s supposed to finally blow over this evening. It’s weirdly warm today, despite the wind and rain.
I think I shall spend the rest of the day inside; I got in touch with the guy who has my bees, he said he was going to check on 'em in a bit, he’d let me know if they’d blown over or anything. I’d rather avoid driving down that road right now unless I have to.
I’ve not tried making cornbread, I’ll have to give it a go some point, I’ve got a nice cast iron skillet even. Not tonight though, tonight I shall have to forage in the cupboard for dinner, as staying in means not going to the shops to get ingredients.
Since you…aren’t from around here, I would casually advise you that people are tarred and feathered for putting sugar in corn bread in civilized areas of the USA. :dubious:
Just sayin’.
If anyone is prepared to put the time, effort and money into flying from the US for the purpose of hunting me down with a bucket of tar and some feathers, then go for it I say.
If I get round to it, I shall sprinkle just a little in, regardless of what the recipe says, in your honour.
Howdy Y’all! Been a bzzy day. Hauled two more loads of stuff to the landfill today. Everybody is bein’ so nice there. Seriously, people are all, “let me help you unload.” After I unloaded each load I spent a few minutes helpin’ others as well. Nice, warm fuzzy feelin’! Also, I learned today that the county will start comin’ around to pick up debris toward the end of next week. The little bit left in da yahd is now piled up down at the road for pickup. Lots of other folks are doin’ the same. A little bit of good news.
Ham is bakin’ away as I post. N.O.T. for the N.O.T. sallit have been cooked and aigs boiled. I shall assemble that soonish. Actually, OYKW informed me he will do that, so YAY! Green beans shall also be cooked. All the talk of cornbread may inspire to make some in my own well-seasoned cast iron skillet. Just so it’s understood, cornbread shall not contain sugar. If you want to make for real corn muffins then by all means add sugar. Muffins are sweet. However cornbread muffins, as in cornbread made in one’s muffin tin shall not be sweetened. I trust this clears up any confusion. I have spoken! So mote it be!
We shall have a combined Whiskypalian/Luterun service at ten forty-five tomorrow mornin’. The church is still without power but could get power today. If not we shall meet outside in the memorial garden at the outdoor Altar.
Well, soccer is done for the day; Girls tied 2-2 and boys won 2-0 and I got some refereeing in-between, so a good day on a perfect weather day (started at 55F, got to 68F, occasional clouds and a light breeze).
Boiled some noodles on the new range and am afraid I may have damaged the ceramic top (too new-fangled for me). I’ll check it out when it cools down.
Otherwise a day of leisure is planned for the afternoon, with a 60% possibility of nappage occurring.
FCM, where do you get this granite polish at? Wal-mart? Guess I need to take care of the countertop but I guess just spraying Formula 409 everywhere (my usual method of cleaning) won’t work anymore.
All y’all take care now.
Gasp! :dubious:
Enjoy your sweet cornbread.
Cornbread is not sweet folks. It’s just not.
Got home from from irk at 2pm and promptly took a nap. I am awake now and have baked taters in the oven. Tonight is steak night since Firday is normally steak night but neither of us felt like cooking last night. Thus Steak Night shall be tonight.
I finally slept like a dead person last night. The first good sleep I had all week. My brain hates me. It was pretty amazing to finally get a full night of deep sleep.
Later.
what happened to the top MetalMouse?
you should have gotten a bottle of ceramic top stove cleaner and a little plastic no scratch scrubbie with the stove
I can’t use my copper bottom pots on mine, they spin and dance all over the place
swampy, I have my own Southern food question to ask. I just saw an Andrew Zimmern Delicious Destinations show and they mentioned a dish called lemon icebox pie. It has a graham cracker crust. The filling is condensed milk, egg yolks, and lemon juice, stirred together, poured into the crust, and chilled. But they didn’t say the amounts of each.
Do you know this dish? Do you have a recipe? It sounded good, easy to make, and one doesn’t have to heat up the kitchen.
JDD and Partner and two other friends came over for sup. None of them has had power and all were goin’ to take advantage of the shower whilst here, but all four now have power. YAY! They were all giddy over the prospect of havin’ a hot shower and puttin’ fresh sheets on the bed. Chillage now ensues.
Worked, came home, took Gordie for a nice long walk. Watching hockey.
[sup][sup]11[/sup][/sup]
: orders fainting couch from Amazon :
Let me try this in British.
“It simply isn’t done.”
swampy, you’ll be relieved to know that my muffins were cornbread muffins, not sweet. My mother, rest her hillbilly soul, didn’t really like cornbread and what she made was more like a cake with a little cornmeal in it. She even made it in a cake pan. I actually learned proper cornbread making from my grandmother and an old waitress from eastern Kentucky who I used to work with. I have made the sweet corn muffins, usually with pecans in them or filled with strawberry jelly. They’re good for dessert that way.
I wwnt to the 'Boro and picked up some more cotton woven dish towels to embroider for Sis for Xmas. I also swung by the farewell party but didn’t stay long because it was packed and SRO. I’ll see them again tomorrow when we can actually hear each other. Now it’s kick back with NCIS and messing around in the studio.
“It isn’t cricket”
MetalMouse - this is the stuff I use. I think I got it at Lowe’s but if Google is to be believed, it’s available at Target and WalMart.
I got all the laundry done and finished a lap robe that I was making. Tomorrow I’ll vacuum and dust and clean the critter fountain. The rest of tonight is for chillage - real chill, considering how cold it is out there.
All in all, a pretty good day.
Well last nights great flood twas a drizzle and cleared up until an hour ago
NOW it looks like there might be a round two but It’ll just get dark and cloudy and cold for here (between 50-65 ) So we wont be needin’ the ark just yet
dinner will be some unspeakable slop I imagine <insert barf smiley here>
such is the life of me ATM
I’d say it was bloody well interesting, m’self. And jolly good reasoning as well!
Do I want to hang around for a couple posts? Probably not. But that is tempting as well.
Canes won a wild one in OT, thanks to out Magical Hockey Elf[sup][sup]TM[/sup][/sup]. I did not see the overtime, since Fox sports switched to soccer right at the start.:mad::mad::mad: :glares at Metal Mouse :
