Ageing up in the MMP

Congrats on the win spidey!

wet one, my late Aunt Kay used to climb the fence to mount one of her mares. My cousin Scott has made the switch to draft ponies as he’s gotten older (he’s a good sized guy, hence the draft part). The last horse I rode, the guy that I was dating made a small, collapsable step stool that would fit in an oversized saddlebag for me. :stuck_out_tongue: That’s how some of us have dealt with riding horses as we’ve gotten older.

One of the things I like since I’ve hit 55 is that m next apartment can (and likely will) be a senior complex. Around here, there are some of them that are reasonably priced and have some amenities like walk in tubs/showers, high commodes, etc that make geezer limitations a bit easier.

I was never athletic as a young woman and even less so as a middle aged fat woman. I quit playing softball in my twenties and switched to announcing. I’m more suited to bowling (a sport where you can drink beer between rolling a ball  ) as I’ve aged.

Haven’t you done that once already?

Doggio likes both a good draft & some ponies as he’s gotten older, too.

I don’t even have to ask. :o

So I bought a 12VDC Photoelectric Switch Sensor Relay Module from Ebay. It was shipped direct from China. Simple little circuit board gizmo; a two pin input for 12vDC and 3 pin output for whatever you want to switch on/off. Great. Except it came without any instruction sheet and the pins are all labeled in Chinese. :smack:
So a 50/50 chance of hooking the power supply up backwards and smoking my handy-dandy little relay. :dubious:
Fortunately my google-fu was strong and I was able to find a diagram from a different supplier of that same device after about 45 minutes.

Oh, and alla youse kids get offen my lawn!
(I had to do it.)

I am not athletically inclined at all.

Two points I have been meaning to ask youse guys about. #1. When our maid makes the bed she puts the fitted sheet on right but puts the flat sheet with the pattern inside out or with the pattern next to my svelte body. I just find this so weird. And #2. Lucky Louie loves his feline sister Scooter- in the daytime. I have video of them sleeping touching and of her grooming him. After dark he is hateful towards her and will not allow her on the bed and barks his fool head off. He never barks except every night at his sister. What’s up with this?

I’ve had Dopers and Mumpers to my place on several occasions. swampy is the only one who was at my house in Fl. I’d do it again, but since I live far from everyone excepy BBBobbio and Tugig, it’ll probably never happen again, alas.

For those keeping score, RoxStar can just about sit up on her own. She loses her balance if she reaches too far, but we hardly have to support her. She’s almost 6 months old already!

Home from Vestry meetin’. Actually have been home for half an hour but had a couple of adultin’ things to take care of first. Such bother! Whilst on the way to the church house one of those alert thingys sounded on my phone. Nobody needs to hear that noise while drivin’! Anywho, we are now under a tropical storm warnin’ and a hurricane watch. Wednesday and Thursday should be fun times. The main worry for me is if we lose power cause I don’t like it when that happens. Never has happened before so maybe the luck will hold. It’s all just wait and see right now.

Butters perhaps HRH Lucky Louie believes Scooter turns into a vampire after dark and is just protectin’ you. Or, he is a chee-hoo-a-hoo-a and is just weird.

Back from soccer practice, Fall Break down here in Ali-bama is a traditional thing letting kids out of school for a week, so many take vacations and I’m trying to count how many players I have available this weekend. Not as easy as it looks.

Butters, I know little about sheets and less about cats, so I can’t help, I’m afraid.

swampy, you and OYKW be safe.

Bumba, Murphy’s Internet Law: You can find anything on the internet, except what you need (glad this time you beat Murphy).

All y’all have a good night now.

#1 - My mom taught me to make a bed this way. It’s for when you fold the top of the sheet down a couple of inches over the blanket that the pattern is then right side up.

#2 - My WAG is that Louie, once you are home, is jealous of any attention that you give or might give to Scooter.

I had some delicious turkey today. Mmmm! I’m thankful for the great people in my life.

Was kind of a grumpy day.
It’s getting better, just too much to do and not enough time to do it.
If I slept through the night it would help because then I wouldn’t want to take a nap during the day.

One of the things that sucks about getting older is that it takes longer to get things done.

I saw my neighbor and told her squirrels are going through her open window and she is not concerned. I don’t get it.

Mice have been horrible since the abandoned house three doors up is being cleaned up. I caught six in five days, once caught two mice in the same trap.
The neighbors on the other side of me say they see them running through their yard and on the sidewalks around the houses.
Now is when we could use a bunch of outdoor cats hanging around. The neighbors have seen Adam catch some mice in their yard. He could probably use some help though, they’ve seen him walk right past mice too.

Stay safe Swampy

Butters I was going to say the same, when you turn the sheet down the print side shows.
Dog and cat relationships make no sense to me. Ripple and Adam have a strange love/hate relationship. I’m hoping as Ripple gets older and starts to mellow a bit they will get along better.
Once he gets snipped and his vaccines I think I’ll start taking him to the dog park. We’ll see, he is weird with other dogs. He is weird with people. He loves my neighbor in the other half of the house, he hates the neighbors on the other side. Well, not true, he loves them when they are on their side of the fence, he growls at them if they come out front.
I’ve been looking into Barn Hunts too, but I haven’t found any close to me.

I’m working on a list of things to do for my nephew?, whatever he is. I’m trying to figure out priorities, and I have no idea how much he will be able to get done. I also have no idea what to pay him. I thought $500, for 8 hours work plus travel and gas. But the going rate for a handyman is probably $25/hour? If my mother comes with him they may not stay the full 8 hours though, if he comes alone he may spend the night and do more work the next day.

I kind of surprised my son. He was learning about the ‘I-Feel-Like-I’m-Fixin’-to-Die Rag’, and he says the lyric are one two three, and I started with what’re we fightin’ for, don’t ask me I don’t give a damn, next stop is Viet Nam. An’ it’s five six seven, open up the pearly gates, well ain’t no time to wonder why, whoopee we’re all gonna die.
I don’t know why he was surprised I would know the song.

Board ate my post. Worked, came home napped. Making dinner. I got to go skating after the game last night, 4th time ever. As I age and get better, I may end up the best hockey player in the over 70 League.

Congrats on winning Spidey! And good luck sticky. I joined a run club once because I thought it said rum club. I was shocked and sobered by my experience.

If we were closer, we could be on a Mumper bowling team.

Geezer menu? Is that stuff like “Spam a la canned pineapple” and “succotash in aspic”?:dubious::p:eek:

I’ve also been known to Rye-it during hockey games as I’ve gotten older.

We’re thankful for you being here Midget. And for you music on Youtube,

Be careful during Micheal, Butters and swampy. Sucks about it, no matter what track it takes, all the rain is gonna flow into the areas flooded by Florence

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and cloudy (well, dark), with a predicted high of 85 (BRRR!) and a chance of rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon. We are under a tropical storm warnin’, a hurricane watch, and a flash flood watch through Thursday evenin’. I shall lay in provisions this mornin’. Don’t need much so should be a quick trip. I figure it best to go today cause tomorrow for sure I have no plans to get out at all. Again, as long as we don’t lose power I’ll be good with that.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I shall purtify and, bother of bothers, don appropriate goin’ about the public attire.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Up caffeinatd, and sheveled. Off to work. It’s my Firday. And there’s hockey after work.

I had a terrible time trying to fall asleep last night, and I kept waking. Needless to say, 5AM came way too soon. But I’m up, dressed, and breakfasting at my desk, so there’s that.

We’re promised rain from Michael on Thursday, right before a cold front comes thru - cold as in nighttime temps in the upper 40s!! Weather has been so weird of late.

And so we go. Happy Tuesday!!

Happy Toosday!

It’s humid outside, we had to turn on the AC last night.
AC on in October is ridiculous. This is the time of year I should have low electric bills.

It’s quiet this morning, the kid is sleeping, the dog is sleeping, the cat is outside doing whatever it is he does outside. Probably sleeping.

I don’t know what I am doing today.
I have a list.
I think I’ll make some chili.

Tell me about it! It sucks. It actually hit 90 last week. Michael is going to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle as a Category 3 hurricane, and this is the second week of October.

At a time when leaves should be turning and the crispness of Fall should be in the air, it looks like summer outside. Man generated global warming? Must be “Fake News”.

Morning all. Kidneys woke me up about 5, but I wnet back to bed until 7 just to show them who was boss. Need to forage for food here shortly.

Going to get to 84F today but cooler weather is in sight for the weekend. Not sure how much of an effect from Michael we’ll get, rain is in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, but it was predicted before we knew Michael’s path, so that storm could goof up the weather patterns.

Sari, $500 for 8 hours seems excessive, I’d pay gas and may $0.50/mile (depending how far he has to drive), but $20-25 an hour sounds fair to me.

I have procured provisions, stowed them, and made one last round to ensure the hatches are all battened. Go Me! I have a beast roast in the slow cooker and N.O.T. and carrots ready to go in in a little while. I shall also cook some white acre peas and cornbread. Sup will be nom!

‘Tis all cloudy and dreary out but warm. Looks stormyish to the southwest, from whence Michael shall appear, and the wind is pickin’ up a bit. Good day to be in da cave!

::raises hand::
I’ll do it for that rate.

That’s not what I thought you’d be drinking.
Got an email from irk: “This is a reminder that one or more courses in your training program - 2018 - ______ - is due to be completed by <date>. Completion of this program in a timely manner is very important. Please contact us with any questions or concerns at trainingdept@workemail.com.

Ummm, you think it might be a good idea to send us a link to where the online training courses might be found? :smack:

It’s about 70 miles each way.
It may become moot though because the neighbor told me he will cut down the tree and fill the squirrel hole for free, just to be neighborly. I’d pay him anyway.
I think I’ll still have my nephew? out. There are many things that need to be done around here. I think the neighbor is okay, but I am leery of inviting him into the house.
I think he may have been the one who fixed my downspout without telling me. I keep forgetting to ask him.

The leaves are starting to change here Jasmine, but its too warm and humid for October.

The sun is shining, that always makes me feel better and improves my mood.
Spidey - do you know how to cut down trees, fill squirrel holes, hang a dryer on a plaster wall, install a new showerhead, fix ancient door knobs (I’d rather keep the origial than replace them). etc? Oh yeah, and fix the basement stairs and install a railing around the top of the attic stairs?
