All Diablo2 Talk here.........

Newbie questions are more than welcome, shijinn. Yes, Lower Resists does help for Bone Spirit (and Bone Spear), since they deal magical damage. Oddly enough, www.diabloii.net says that LR won’t break an elemental/magical immune monster - is that true in 1.10 anyone?

I’m not sure what Diabloii says since I can’t access it from work, but Lower Resistance will break an elemental immune monster… provided you lower its resistance to under 100%. An elemental immune monster has a resitance above 100%. If its resistance is 125% and you lower it by 30%… it’s no longer immune. Many immune monsters have resistances that are too high for the lower resist curse to break the immunity, but that doesn’t say that the curse won’t break the immunty at all. That was the same in 1.09 also… I have broken elemental immunities with my necro ion 1.09. As for it helping Bone Spirit… I’ve never heard that, but it’s possible.

ED, there are several items on the community mules for druids. I put two +1 all druid skill ammys on the account and there is also a Dark Clan Cudgel +2 to druid skills on one of the mules.

There are two different sorts of immunity, as of 1.10. First, if a monster happens to have over 100% resists to some element, it’ll be listed as immune to that element. In this case, things that lower resistances (the necromancer’s Lower Resists curse, or Amplify Damage or Decrepefy for physical resists, the paladin’s Conviction aura, Cold Mastery, and various equipment stats) will be effective. There are also some monsters that have “immune to X” as a specific attribute, and against those, there’s nothing you can do. This was the norm in 1.09, but in 1.10, it’s reserved for a few superunique bosses (those are the ones that always spawn in the same area with the same name): Bishibosh, the Grand Vizier of Chaos, and Colenzo the Annihilator will always be immune to fire, for instance.

The Lower Resists curse works on all damage types except for Physical, and Amplify Damage covers that. Conviction is much more powerful, but only works on Fire, Lightning, and Cold resistances (not poison or magic), so it’s not much benefit to a necromancer. Physical, fire, lightning, cold, poison and magic are the six damage types, and there’s a resistance for each. It’s difficult for a player to get nonzero physical resistance (the stat is listed as "damage reduced by X %), and almost impossible to get magic resistance (I think there’s a crafted item which gives a few percent, and that’s it). Fortunately, magic damage is rare: The only sources are the necromancer’s bone spells, the paladin’s Blessed Hammer, the barbarian’s Berserk, and a few unique and set weapons.

Highest resistance I could find to any one element. Lower Res, in higher levels (probably 15 or so), would reduce this guy to the point that meteor might do some damage. It would also reduce his magic resistance to -50 or so.

Incidentally, the lack of enemies packing remarkably resistance to magic damage is one thing that continues to make berzerk an attractive attack. If you’re making a frenzier, you should seriously consider putting 4 or 5 points into it not just for the +frenzy but for use against Phys. immunes (even if you have something nice like a Bstar or Horazon’s Scourge).

Note that some monsters have resistances above 100%, so that you’ll need more than the bare minimum to make them vulnerable to that damage type. For instance, in the Cold Plains on Hell difficulty a level 26 Conviction aura (-150 to resistances) does not remove cold immunity from the monsters there. I haven’t tried it in combination with a necromancer’s LR curse, so it might be possible to make them vulnerable, but not by much. Also note that a sorceress’ Cold Mastery power doesn’t work on mobs that are immune to cold, but if their resistance is lowered to become vulnerable, Cold Mastery will then bring it down further for her cold spells as usual.

The paladin’s Sanctuary aura and Holy Bolt (as well as the Holy Bolt secondary damage from Fist of the Heavens) also do holy damage, though only to undead. Additionally, all magic damage paladin’s do ignores any magic resistance (including immunity) on all undead. I wonder, though, if magic resistance on someone would reduce the healing power of Holy Bolt.

I have always wondered, though, if “magic damage reduced by x” affects actual magic damage, or only fire/cold/lightning damage.

Are you sure that’s the right link? Korlic only has 70% fire resistance (since you mention meteor), which is annoying, but still far short of immune. And even his highest resistance, cold, is still an easily-defeated 150%. I’m quite certain that there are monsters with much more: Oblivion Knights have well over 200% cold resistance (Arreat says otherwise, but I think they’re out of date), and I once met an Oblivion Knight boss which was immune to both cold and lightning, even after a level 24 Conviction.

Note that for a creature’s immunities, any resistance-lowering power only works at 1/5 the power. So, conviction at max (-150 resistance) will only lower Korlic’s cold resistance from 150 to 120.

Updating my wants and needs for YetiGrrrl

I currently am doing quite well with the weapons…in my possession…

Etheral Titan’s Revenge Ceremonial Javalin with 181ED and 8 LL…pretty nice…just got to make sure I dont drive down the quantity to 0 like last time… :smack:

Demon’s Arch Balrog Spear …209ED and 10 LL…great weapon with additional elemental Damage…It fares better against lightning imunes than my Titan’s.

Hellrack Colossus Crossbow Great alternate weapon for those pesky Gloams/Burning Souls/Lighting Immunes that usually reek havoc. I still have to get to level 76 to use it though…I’m at 69 currently.

But if any other javazon/bowazon uniques show up, I won’t turn down anything. I’m always looking for better versions of these weapons, especially the Titan’s to upgrade.

…But I need some help everywhere else…

I have a +1 skills tiara, not bad on additional modifiers…it’s fine for NM, but I’ll need something with good resists when I get to hell.

I definitely need a +3 amulet for each skill tree, preferably with +life or +resists, since I’m dumping most points in dex and enough strength to handle the Hellrack.

A Moser’s shield…my kingdom for a Moser’s shield!

A ravenfrost and dwarfstar ring is always a lifesaver for a 'zon.

I have infernostrides which is what I survived on in hell last season, but if there are other boots that you think an amazon can kick ass in (not the thigh-high black leather ones that YOU are thinking of), then please let me know.

Gloves - any unique or +amazon skills will do for now.

Armor - I’m really hurting here…I have a mediocre rare on now with some resists…I’m toast if I try running around in hell with this on. I’m not too picky on any offers here.

Belt - I’m currently using Nightsmoke…not the best belt for NM, but managable, but certainly not managable in hell. Get me a T-gods!

Also, n00binat0r (my son’s account) has his summoning necro DrxPhibes, running around in hell now at level 76 with stuff he got back in normal…don’t know how he does it…but any necro stuff or if Who has any hand-me-downs…he’ll jump on it like maggots on a corpse…uh, heh. :smack:

If you could pile up enough of that (say, 10 or 15), you could find out pretty easily. Simply have a sorc toss some ice blasts at you without the stuff on and see what dmg you take. Then put your dmg redux X gear back on and see if you notice a difference. If you find you’re taking less than the dmg listed (after adjusting for PvP), then it works.

Chronos, something happened between reading that page and listing the particular element at 150% Res.

ckhd mentioned, possibly in-game, that once we had two lvl 70 sorcs done we could start doing mule rushes. Mine is about lvl 63, and I will make an attempt tomorrow (my work for TDL is done for a week or two) to get her to the mid 70s and also get her merc leveled some. I am using a prayer merc now, but if folks think a HF merc would be better I will certainly go that route.

Has anyone found any of the new Runewords yet?

Simple - a summoner with well-allocated skill points could run around naked. They’re the perfect MF characters, since you can completely load them up with pure Magic Find gear and have very little reduction in killing speed.

I’m not sure how it worked in previous versions, but in 1.10 it’ll automatically fix itself if you run it down to 0 (as I found out a few nights ago). Speaking of which, what do you do while waiting for it replenish? Swap it out for a different javalin?

I found a Thunderstroke last night that I was going to offer you, but it looks like you’ve done better already! Unless you want to use it instead of the Titan’s (personally, I can’t stand the small stack size).

Infernostride is good, particularly if you need FR, but I’m partial to Natalya’s set boots. 40% FRW, plus CR and LR. Also cheap/easy to find.

I’ll be dumping things I found last night on the mules today, including +1 skill ammys (Necro (x2), Druid, Sorc), +3 Sorc cold skills ammy, Wolfhowl, a Druid elemental GC, and a Barb combat GC.

What’s your % on the ammy? I’m using a 32% ammy right now I think, or around that.

That’s nice, but how do I get them?

Email sent.

Holy crap! There’s a ladder reset?!..new runewords?! Now I’ve really got to start looking for the Diablo CD that I misplaced while I was recovering my PC from a HD crash. I just know it’s sharing a case along with one of of my music CDs…one of the 350 or so of them. :smack:

There’s NO WAY I’m going to read back through this whole thread, but it sounds like everybody is playing on West now. If I find my CD or jack a friend for his, I’ll know where to look for everybody.

Ok. I don’t want to hear any comments about the “jack a friend for his” bit.

I just checked the mules and it’s not the club I thought ED… it’s +2 to shapeshifting… Fleshrender.

I also played the SD pally for a few minutes… he’s lvl 12 now.

Should have refreshed… Hi Voltaire! You’re welcome whenever you show up.

by the way. since I’m already posting… I think there are enough people in hell now (or close to it) to try doing hell runs… eventually hell Baal runs… as a group to level up.
