All Diablo2 Talk here.........

Once I play through on single-player I might log on. But I’ve got a ways to go. I’m in the middle of Act II…

Well, I hit 95 with my paladin last night. You can now find Patriarch ColdYouSo at rank 110 on the paladin expansion ladder and 957 on the overall expansion ladder. I’m tempted to do the 30+ baal runs to work my way up to the top 100 on the paladin ladder, but i’m not in any hurry.

At least now i can go back to normal d2-ing, so you’re likely to see more of me in doper games from now on. I’ve been itching to play my Throw Barb, especially now that i acquired a second lacerator for him.

Well, while waiting for you West guys, I got my javazon to level 72 and a sorc to level 32. Hopefully one of these days I’ll catch up to you for a decent multiplayer game.

Well, theckd, I was mistaken… We do have a flail for you, after all. I just didn’t notice it because the mule had it equipped. It’s on the druid now, I think. Yeti and I also got a Wraith Flight javelin from Baal… Would you want that for your thrower? No elemental damage, but the physical is about double a Glimmershred, and it’s got 11% lifesteal.

We also found an Ormus’ Robes with plus to enchant from some random Worldstone monster. My pally already has enchant from his Lava Gout gloves, but one of your characters might be able to use it. The damage isn’t much from only level 3, but it’s nice for attack rating.

Cool, i’ll get that flail from you tonight. Now i just need to trade for a Pul and i can whip up the Heart of the Oak runeword for my Hammerdin.

I can give the Wraith Flight a try, but i’m wary of most javelins because of their small stack size. We’ll see how it works. If one of the Javazons would rather have it though, they should get first dibs.

I’m pretty sure i don’t have a character that would benefit too much from Ormus’ Robes, so i think i’ll pass on that one. Thanks for the offer though.

That Wraith Flight is also etheral but does replenish quantity, just be careful that you don’t run your quantity down to 0…like I did with a previous etheral Titan’s… :frowning:

I recalled that there was 76 quantity when I last saw it…and I don’t recall if it had increased stack size…so it is probably 80 quantity max.

I’ve heard that ethereal self-repair items now continue to replenish, even if completely broken/used up, so that’s not an issue any more. Or so I’ve heard. But don’t take my word on it.

Yeti or theckhd, if you see this, I’m not able to get back onto bnet. One of you will have to see about picking up the charm. At least it wasn’t a particularly good one…

I wanted to thank you guys again for the other night. The Anni charm is great and so is the Titans and Tal’s orb. I’ve mostly played the sorc since then to get her high enough to magic find so I can try to equip myself and not rely on the generosity of others. Hopefully, by the time the weekend rolls around she’ll be a full fledged Hell level sorceress that can help you. I hit lvl 53 last night so with luck I’ll get close to 70 tonight.

Chronos, what in the world does “SDSAB” mean under your username?

Straight Dope Science Advisory Board (IIRC)… there’s a thread about it somewhere, but the board seems to be running a bit slowly at the monent.

Heya,

I’m a very occasional Diablo II player (1.07, Lord of Destruction Expansion). I recently got an amazon as far as the second act of Nightmare, but discovered I’d horribly messed up on assigning skill and attribute points. I’m going to have to start again, either with an amazon or a druid.

Since I play so rarely and it took me years to reach this point the first time, I’d really appreciate some advice on assigning points for one of these two classes so I don’t wind up restarting a second time.

Thank you,

    -- Hamish

(Sorry if something like this has been addressed already in this thread. There’s something like 1600 posts, so I just skimmed it)

First off, Hamish, I’d recommend upgrading to 1.09 or 1.10. The problem with 1.07 is that Magic Find is broken, and finding good uniques/sets is extremely difficult. But with that, here’s an easy build for 1.07/1.09:

Freezing Arrow/Multiple Arrow Amazon:
Critical Strike: 12
Penetrate: 1
Pierce: 9
Dodge/Avoid/Evade: 6/4/6
Inner Sight: 1
Decoy: 1
Valk: 1

Magic Arrow: 1
Cold Arrow: 1
Guided Arrow: 1
Ice Arrow: 1
Freezing Arrow: 20
Multiple Arrow: 12
Strafe: 0 or 6
Fire Arrow: 1

That’s a total of 76 points, which can be reached at level 66 if you get through Act II/Hell.

As for your attribute points, you need to focus on Dexterity. Put just enough in Strength to equip your bow, and limit your armor to items you can equip w/o adding Strength. Getting Vitality to 100 is a decent goal. Put NO points into Energy.

Thanks Munch.

I had been putting all my points into spear-skills because of a preference for melee. Is a spear-focused amazon unworkable? Too much of a liability?

I didn’t know about 1.9 until I got into this thread. Actually, a lot of the things mentioned here are new to me (I assume “the trading post” has something to do with the online version, which I’ve never played?). It was only just recently that my game spawned a super unique item for the first time – I didn’t know it could do that.

Spearazons are viable, but I’ve yet to build one. Javazons are a lot of fun if you want to try those. Lightning Fury is a blast.

I think your best bet would be to head over to dii.net, click on their Single Player message board, and download ATMA. It’s a muling program that’ll allow you to save all the items you would ever want, and also allow you to trade and receive items from other SP players.

If that’s something you’d want to do, I’d then say you should just go straight to 1.10. Better items, better magic find, more players, better skills, etc.

I’ve never done much with a druid, but from what I understand, with a shapeshifter, your first priority is Fury (if you’re doing a werewolf) or Maul (if a bear). Don’t bother with elemental skills at all, since you can’t use them while furry (yes, I know that in 1.10 you can use Armageddon, but you’d need to spend 9 points on useless prerequisites first).

As a general guide to attribute points: Start with enough points in strength and dex to equip the gear you want. A melee character might want to put more in strength to increase damage, but it doesn’t do much. A bowazon or non-kicking assassin can use tons of dex, since it’ll increase damage, attack rating, and defense. If you’re using a shield, you also want dex, to keep your blocking high. Spellcasters will need to pump energy, but warriors can use mana steal, so don’t need any energy at all. And if you have points left over after all of that, it’s almost never a waste to put them in vitality, since everyone can use more hit points.

Hey guys, I’m still alive after all. Haven’t played in quite a while, I was busy working my ass off then getting laid off. Whee. Anyways, I’m available to play during normal working hours, in between looking for work and running errands. Evenings I’ve been playing Summoner with available light, except on Tuesdays when I learn how out of shape I am by trying not to get hit with a stick.

Chronos, Yeti: For the moment i’m going to leave the annis you collected the other night in your posession; after 3 more walks tonight i now have 22 anni charms (24 if you count the two you have), and only 23 characters, so i can’t hold them all right now anyway. I have to figure out whether i want to sell off a few for runes (i need a few Ums and a Pul) or just rush a few more mules to hellforge and store them there. Once i get the runes i need, i may decide to just give a few away to west dopers (especially if i keep up this habit of getting 2-3 annis a day), so you may end up keeping those two that you collected yesterday night permanently.

By the way, if anyone has Ums (or a Pul) on west i’ll give you a very good deal for them in anni charms. Like maybe a low anni 1:1 for um or pul, and med annis 1:2 or something.

By all means, unload your low level annis for whatever you can get…there were kids fighting and cussing each other out (at a public game that I was in when DC showed up) over a 12/11/6 anni as if it was the Holy Grail or something. I would probably keep the ones that were at least 15/15/9 or better. I only have one character that’s actually able to use the charm (level 70+) and that one is 15/18/9 and Chronos has one that is 18/19/9 (that’s the best one I’ve seen so far), those are the ones worth keeping until we’re overstocked on those. The demand for any annis (even low level ones) is still high, IMO.

You did take the opportunity to publicly laugh at them and brag, I trust? That’s too good a chance to pass up.

And I’m thinking that instead of the gamejoining frenzy whenever a server is hot, I should maybe just start advertising in chat as a hired killer. I kill the Diablo Clone for you; you keep the charm. Rates negotiable. How much do you’uns think I should charge? It should be cheaper than the trade value, since the customer is providing the game, and it should be something flexible, to broaden the market base. Maybe an Elite Unique of the customer’s choice?
