Alleged Gang Rape Teens Described As "Good Kids"

I’m going to need to see the actual video to make judgment.

Anyone remember the “Central Park Jogger” case? Do you notice how differently the portrayal of the “perpertrators” are handled? Anyone notice how this “perps” aren’t demonized and equated with animals? Why is that?

Which is just as bad, IMHO. This also teaches the boys who did this that they can just “buy” their way out of trouble and that they can avoid jail time by settling out of court.
The idiot lawyers will probably persuade her to accept a hefty settlement in exchange for dropping the charges.

EasyPhil, I’ll take that question for $200…

Because these boys are white. And white suburban boys are “good boys” who deserve another chance, while everyone knows that urban brown boys are vile marauders who must be punished.

Secondly, white, good boys are innocent until proven guilty. Bad, brown boys are guilty until proven guilty.

Thirdly, rape victims will be rape victims, you know. It’s just a natural part of growing up, something she needs to get out of her system. Once this blows over, she’ll have a bright future as a psychiatric patient to think of.

“Smith and Robbins have reported that they have been harassed since the story broke over the weekend.”

Oh, the poor dears.

Well, how about that. Who would have guessed? And such nice boys, too.

I really hope nobody drops the ball on this one and the guys get off on a technicality. If you’re old enough to join the Guard, you’re old enough to be responsible for your actions.

Hi, Opal!

I’ve yet to hear any mention of these kids being “good boys” that doesn’t come from an attorney of one of the boys or a friend or family member. I’m sure that “brown people”, no matter how heinous their crime, could rustle up a few relatives, friends, or paid employees to say the same for them.

I guess I’m seeing a different subset of media coverage, but I’m getting a deep current of revulsion and desire for revenge, which seems natural. I’ve yet to see anything that supports the idea that local policymakers or media reps are defending these misguided creatures at all.

"“He’s a good boy. He’s just a fine young lad,’’ said Robert Kuzas, an attorney for Robbins, who is in the Illinois National Guard”

HE IS HIS ATTORNEY!!!

Stolichnaya, from the OP

“As the boys were in their bail hearing yesterday, the courthouse was surrounded by ADULT and teen supporters for the boys saying they were ‘good kids’. Young men pumped their fists in the air in support of their friends, And one woman I saw on the news admonished the media for ‘not saying enough about what kind of girl she was’ in reference to the victim.”

Just wait until someone says, “They are good boys who only made one mistake”

Now, I don’t understand what the mistake is. Getting caught? Video taping it the crime? It’s not like you’re walking down the sidewalk, trip and accidently gang rape someone.

More accurately, “They are good boys who thought they had a reasonable chance of not getting caught commiting a henious felony”.

In all fairness, Mags, I don’t have a cite for that, as I just saw it on the news.

This story is over a month old, why wasn’t it headline news when it happened?

Sorry stoli, I didn’t see your attorney exclusion until after I posted. No need to give yourself a heart attack.

Sure, I’ve seen that too. But this isn’t presented as evidence that the boys are good, but rather in a tsk tsk tsk manner, like, “look how stupid some people are”.

You know the woman from the news? Is she a moron? Is she related to one of the boys? Did the girl in question take her daughter’s spot on the cheerleading squad? Either way, she’s not a journalist, is she? She can say any damn fool thing she wants.

This is a heinous crime if all of the details reported are true, and it seems strange and unexplainable for people to support the perpetrators, but if they are friends or family or attorneys of course they are going to do that.

BTW, sorry for the caps, Opal, just got briefly fired up about that. I didn’t mean to sound petulant.

According to the charges, they apparently made 140 mistakes.

But the big one was taping it. That’s one mistake I’m quite happy they made.

That’s cool, jarbabyj, I’m just saying that we weren’t pulling the community sentiment stuff completely out of our asses and lawyer’s statements.

Stoli, my OP wasn’t about the media…it was about the damn fool woman, who can say anything she damn fool wants…and I can call her a damn fool because of it.

I don’t care if her daughter had pigs blood poured on her by the victim at the prom…it’s stupid to suggest the victim had some blame in the situation.
