Allen Gregory cancelled.

all that show proves is that it’s ridiculously easy to sell animated sitcom to Fox.

No it hasn’t started yet, I just know it’s gonna die.

I’m a huge fan of Home Movies, so I figured Bob’s Burgers would be right up my alley. At first, I was disappointed-- the first few episodes were just kind of strange and oddly paced.

But somehow I kept coming back, and each episode seemed better than the one before. Now I’m really looking forward to it coming back. I think this show’s a grower, even though I fully admit it doesn’t have mass appeal.

and there was much rejoicing.

If you don’t like Bob’s Burgers, I don’t know, maybe you’re missing the forest for the trees? It’s the funniest new show in years. More than just funny, it has a heart & soul but without being the least bit corny or schticky. All the characters have, well, character (Kristen Schaal is especially great as Louise!) And I don’t get why its character design should bother anyone. It’s not an animated sitcom (like KOTH), it’s a cartoon. It’s like saying you don’t like the way the character’s on The Simpsons are drawn. Bobs Burgers isn’t ‘drawn crappy’ for laughs. It isn’t drawn crappy or cheaply period. And personally I think one of the biggest causes of the shitiness of the later Simpsons has been its annoying, near Disney-quality animation. It’s supposed to be a radio play like Rocky & Bullwinkle. The script is supposed to matter more than the animation.

Besides, I think Bob’s Burgers has already been renewed for two more seasons!

As per Allen Gregory, I wouldn’t defend that show in public. But here in an anonymous faceless internet forum, I hate to say it but it actually started to grow on me. In today’s age of mindless reality shows this show haaaaad, something. For better or worse it at least believed in itself. But I’m not gonna mourn its passing.

Napolean Dynamite? Meh. Give it a try. The movie was what, like eight years ago or something?! And although it was an enjoyable, original, odd little film it wasn’t exactly an hilarious one.

And in that article: I though it was decided long ago that this would be the last season of House? Since when did they start negotiating for more? I hope it continues. House has had its ups & downs but I can’t think of a show that was completely carried by one star better than it. When a rerun comes on I never think, “Oh no, this is a Kutner one, or a 13 one, or a ‘classic three’ one”. House is Hugh Laurie and if he’s there I’m ready for more!

No (new) Bob’s Burgers until March.

Do you realize how many times you contradicted yourself? The animation isn’t bad, but you should ignore the bad animation. You should ignore the way something looks, but the Simpsons looks horrible now.

Yes I did realize that I was contradicting myself, but I couldn’t think of how to explain it more clearly in an already confused post.

What I mean to say is that Bob’s Burgers goofy look is based on its artist’s ‘style’ just as The Simpsons was based on Groening’s drawings. The characters are not drawn ‘unrealistically’ to save money, they’re drawn unrealistically because it’s a cartoon and that’s how the artist wanted to draw them. It’s like complaining that Schultz’s Peanuts character’s heads are too big. All three of these (BB, Simpsons & Peanuts) take place in the real world (more or less) but like I said, they’re still also cartoons.

The problem I have with The Simpsons is that by the third season (way back in 1991!) the animation was pretty much as good as it needed to be because what drove that show was the writing. And I find it very distracting that as the writing slowly declined in quality the animation increased! Almost like they were desperately trying to compensate one for the other, and that so does not work at all. Simpsons money should all go to hiring better writers not better animators.

But right now Bob’s Burgers is where The Simpsons used to be. More realistic animation would not help it at all. In fact, it would still be a great show even if the animation was poorer.

An extreme example is South Park. That show is so script driven that the characters don’t even have fingers! Or even move their legs when they walk! And they don’t need to. It would add nothing. It would in fact, like The Simpsons, make it worse.

Still a little confused…

I’ve only seen 5 minutes of Allen Gregory and hated it.

I can’t believe shows like the Goode Family re cancelled after 12 episodes but AG wasn’t.
