That was Morris Chestnut!?
I’m so bad at recognizing actors.

Morris Chestnut, IMDB
I shouted “He’s a lizard!” Nobody got it.
Same here, though my wife got it.
I’m convinced that whomever is killed and buried on the property, their spirits become stuck in our world forever. Which is why Constance tried to bring her dead daughter’s body to their house in hopes of bringing her back to “life”. If their bodies were to be discovered and removed, they would be set free to RIP. Which is why the maid was so disappointed when they poured the concrete. Now, she’ll never be found or set free.
I’m not fully convinced that the man Constance shot was truly her husband. I believe he may have been her mistress/neighbor. There’s been no other mention of her ever living in the murder house, she says, “I’ve loved you since I was 16.” and then, “You broke my heart for the last time.” before plugging them both.
Additionally, I’m pretty convinced that Tate is her son. She mentions having a “perfect son” who met a terrible fate and since he seems a bit stuck in the 90’s (esp. asking Violet if she has any Nirvana), I would guess that he was likely born in the late 70’s and died in the early-mid 90’s.
During Tate’s first session with Ben he mentions that his mom was giving head to the guy next door and that, when his dad found out, he’d left Tate and his mom alone.
I also agree with those who said that the maid is trapped because there’s now a gazebo over her body. She and Tate are my favorite characters so far. She nearly broke my heart during the last episode when she visits her mother. I love this show.
Could it be possible that Vivianne was impregnated twice that day? One baby will be good while the other is evil??? Maybe that’s what the technician saw???
I agree - also when he went and got coffee for himself and the worst therapist in the world, he mentioned that he was confused by all the different coffees. That combined with the Cobain sweaters and he could have been my 17 y/o boyfriend (was born in 75, graduated in 93).
Constance has 4 kids - 3 with down syndrome and one that she hinted at looked perfect but was afflicted by something else/something deeper. I had assumed she meant he was a psychopath and was Tate. Will we see the others?
Finally - if the physical bodies or bones remaining on the property are required for haunting, does that mean there is a huge unseen number of bodies on the property? Dr. Montgomery has the body of his kid, so it’s there. I’m assuming he splits his wife’s skull and she’s buried there. A set of twins, the maid, Tate, a mutilated infant, Taylor Swift looking dr wife, crazy pregnant girlfriend. Possible: lizard security guard, real estate agent, weird baby that got hinky in the belly until Vivian got back on the property but is ok wandering around, and if the kids from the break in team are buried there somewhere I guess they could show up. I assumed the gay couple was there because it was Halloween and not because they are buried on the property. How many “famous” murders could be committed on the property with no bodies ever being found?
Good question. My belief at this point is not that the victims must be buried on the property, only that they have to have been murdered there. Being buried on the property ties their ghosts to it (like the maid), but simply being killed there makes it an option for the spirit (the property is an open doorway to the spirit world). Which would be why Constance tried to drag Addy on to the property before she died. I think. Elsewise, yes, there would have to be a huge cache of dead bodies on the property itself, and it’s unlikely the murders that were known and investigated wouldn’t have had those bodies removed by the authorities.
Edited to add: Or, what ahsfan said.
What is that style of house? I really suck at picking that stuff out but I love the house so much I would almost be willing to put up with the ghosts. Queen Anne? Victorian?
I was curious, too. It was built in 1908 by Alfred Rosenheim, noteworthy Los Angeles architect. It’s not Queen Anne. That’s all I got.
Romanesque Revival, maybe.
My brother is in an architecture program and my SO works with one. If I can find some good pictures online I am going to ask them.
I couldn’t tell if Constance successfully got her daughter onto the property before she died, or not. I assume she did so daughter/ghost can remain a character, but it didn’t look like it at the time.
I seem to remember a scene in one of the first two episodes where Ben was talking to one of Tate’s “parents” on the phone, explaining that he could no longer treat him. Of course, we only heard his half of the conversation.
Who do we think Tate was talking to? Constance, without recognizing her voice? The house? Or maybe there was no other voice?
He sees what he wants to see with the maid - maybe he hears what he wants to hear with the mom as well?
I thought the maid was only able to leave the house because it was Halloween which was mentioned as the only day the spirits can walk the earth. That’s why she asked for it off so that she could see her Mom. We’ve seen Tate outside the house’s property at the daughter’s school (I think). So my bet is he’s still breathing. For now.
The AHS website describes the house as “Victorian”, but it seems less fussy and definitely has Craftsman and Art Deco architectural details as well as that horrifying Gothic art Viv uncovered on the inside.
So…Victorian revival maybe? Maybe the fluffers can straighten it all out.
Why do you think the maid killed her mom?
I think it was a mercy killing for two reasons. Did you notice how dismal the nursing home was, and how the patients were just… decrepit? The old man wandering the hallway with a broken catheter bag was just dismal. It was clear the residents weren’t well cared for and she loved her mother too much to let her suffered in such poor conditions. There was no dignity to be had there.
And also, because the maid feels trapped in the world because she is unable to die and find peace. She helped her mother find peace. I believe it was an act of kindness.
