Do I have my Dark Horse (read: black soul man) to root for? It did not hurt that he has an adorable daughter.

You know what happens to AI contestants with adorable kids back home? People start feeling sorry for the kid.

Have I mentioned how much I’m digging seeing all the people who get golden tickets?

There is something so disturbingly sex about Simon. This is a singing show dammit, why am I all hot and bothered over here? Band leader guy = yum!

Mom of 3 is not as good as they’re making her out to be. I agree with Simon that she’s very classy.

I liked the country-ish girl early in tonight’s show (with the black/white dress), Sad Story guy and maybe Welder.

All tonight’s episode made me do is want to look up vintage Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men.

Just found an old info page on tmz (from season 6) that seems to say Hollywood Week takes place in December. I guess I was wrong about what Mandisa said a few years ago. I’m glad it’s kept pretty under wraps. I don’t want to know who makes it ahead of time!

I don’t want to know who makes it ahead of time; I just want to know when this thing was filmed.

When do the live broadcasts and viewer interaction begin?

Does it seem like a some of the KC people got through just because they weren’t terrible? More than in years past?

I’d like to hear that last woman sing again. Randy said she was “retro”. What’s that code for? Mature? Old-fashioned?

It was all about the guys tonight. There were so many decent ones I lost track. When Apu - I mean Anoop - came on I said “he’s my favorite.” Then band director came on and I said “I mean he’s my favorite.” A lot of good guys. I liked Dead Wife and Welder too. And wee Castro is pretty decent!

I second the motion by Mrs. Whatsit about props. I’d like to extend this to a kibbosh on singing any song by a previous *Idol *finalist, it’s just unimaginative. It’s a little sad about the guy with the cheerleaders because I think he might have made it through without them. He had a decent, not great, voice.

Of the ladies, the one that stood out for me was Tomboy girl - the one with the glasses who sounded a bit like Kelly Clarkson. She’s so cute and genuine and reminds me of my little sister. It will be kind of a shame when the stylists make her bleach her hair and wear stillettos - but good TV! I also like Li’l Sister India, she could be the great Hip-Hop hope this year.

Classy Mama was pretty good, I actually didn’t pay much attention to her audition but she had a great vibe about her. Anyone notice her husband seemed a little less-than-supportive? Like he thinks the whole thing is a waste of time? Dude, step up for your lady!

I was a little confused by what’s coming next. Is there another show tomorrow night with all the rest of the cities, or do we jump straight into Hollywood Pt. 1 next Tuesday?

Yes! He was either bored, or jealous, or wondering who was gonna take care of the kids while Lil’s in Hollywood.

you. are insane.

I liked the Marvin Gaye guy very much.

Please tell me idol won’t be not shown next Tuesday because of the inauguration.

Correct – it won’t be not shown.

And why not? The inauguration is mid-day. Next week’s 8:00 one-hour show will be up against coverage of the inaugural ball. Not exactly must-see TV.

Wow, I really liked “over the rainbow” guy. Wasn’t sure what to make of him at first, but he definitely has a great voice. Loved the banana guy too though, so that shows how much I know.

Can we have Jason Castro back again instead of his brother? Please please please please? My husband and I had a good laugh when Castro Bro stood up to sing with his pegged jeans and his pink hair and I cracked, “He’s the masculine one.” But he’s not much of a singer and not half as good looking as Jason.

I love AnoopDawg! Just as soon as the stylist gets hold of those eyebrows, he’ll be a top contender.

I like to see Simon be a dick as much as the next person, but can he not tell when he’s dealing with a retarded person? Okay, retarded may not technically be the correct word for whatever was wrong with Nicewonder, but it was pretty obvious the kid had more serious problems than just being a nerd. It broke my heart to see him cry afterward. Why did his mom (or anyone!) let him do this?

I saw several people last night who had strong voices and the ability to hit the right notes, but they made fools of themselves with melisma, or attitude, or gimmicks.

I laughed the hardest at the leotard wearing guy who said, “You can stop following me, I’m not going to cry.” And then felt bad for all the people crying in the montage. Except for hysterical black girl with the troll doll ponytail. Her I wanted to slap a few times. Just to see if more drool would fly out of her mouth.

I loved the Asia & India sisters. “We can do it all- whatever you need! Singer, dancer, choreographer… um, bodyguard…”

Bodyguard! You can’t write this stuff.

I am getting a little cynical…

When they kept pimping Sad Story guy, my husband and I were making cracks like “My goldfish died!” and “My stylist is moving away!” Then, after the last pre-commercial pimp, I said, he better have a good story for all this pimpage…"

Yeah - he did. I kinda feel bad now…

And, I really like his singing, along with bar singer guy. And, someone I called for the top 12 - a girl of some kind. I can’t remember now who it was, which doesn’t bode well for her success…

In addition to Sad Story guy, I liked Janis Joplin girl.

Last night was much better than the night before, both for the good and the bad.
