American Idol 2/25-26

Jesse Langseth

“Betty David Eyes” Pretty affected performance, but it doesn’t bother me so much when she does it. Interesting song choice. I kind of dig her.

I like Jessie. She’s cute and I like the quality of her voice.

Way, way back in the day when I was living in Grand Forks, I remember hearing about this kid fron Fargo named John Langseth who was supposed to be this 13 or 14 year old guitar prodigy. He played a few times at a bar in Grand Forks under the name “Kid Johnny Lang.” My opinion was that he was very, very good for a 14 year old, but not someone whose playing would have stood out that much if he was an adult. He did have a lot of soul for a kid from Fargo, though.

I never knew he had a sister.

Kai;

Decent performance, I kinda like his tone…

Kai has that “passing a kidney stone” singing face, but he’s in tune and striking a decent balance between singing the established song and trying to do something new with it.

If not for the fact that he’s received no airtime before now, I’d say he’s safe. But he is in a good, later in the show spot. Tough to say.

ETA: I liked him better than the judges. How they can arbitrarily declare one song “old fashioned,” but let similar songs slide is a meaningless criticism.

Kai, blah.

I am totally in the bag for Norman Gentle.

Hated the performance by the girl who sang Heart, and I’m baffled that it got good reviews. It sounded strangled to me.

I like Jesse. Bette Davis Eyes was just OK, but she’s an appealing performer.

“What Becomes Of The Broken-Hearted”: Why do people keep getting up there and singing plodding, forgettable songs?

Kai was better than the judges made him out to be, but he needs more help from the stylists. He looks like a shoe bomber.

That’s at least two songs with gender swapping in lyrics tonight.

I don’t like Mishavonna’s song either, but her voice is making up for it. Second-best girl of the night, which may be enough for her to go through.

Mishavonna;

I don’t like when someone sings a song where they have to change the gender in the song, like this…
also, forgettable

I liked Mishavonna (sp?).
Expecting Adam to kick some ass.

I’ve been looking forward to Adam’s performance; I’ve been a fan since Bohemian Rhapsody in the auditions.

Clearly Adam is the one with pop star prospects in this group. The kid is completely kicking ass.

I really believe they need to get a new band, and someone with some edge to work on the arrangements. How the hell is it possible to suck the life out of Satisfaction?

Adam kicked some butt, without any help from the band. Simon is right though, parts were crappy.

Adam;

he’s owning tonight… one hell of a range on that voice!

Adam Lambert

“Satisfaction.” Pretty good. I’d like to snark it but can’t.

Showtunes Stones. Blech. So not my taste.

What a disappointment. He has a great voice.

Well, his performance isn’t even over yet, and I’m already thoroughly disappointed. Of course, it doesn’t help that I’ve always hated “Satisfaction”.

Adam reminds me of the “Elementary School Musical” South Park episode from this past season. Totally pre-fab “cool” guy who breaks out into non-threatening song that is technically proficient, but without any soul.

And it was a crappy arrangement.

No thank you.
