American Idol 2/25-26

I thought it was excellent. I also think he seems more like an actual pop star than a contestant.

I think I would have enjoyed Adam’s performance more if I had just listened and not watched.

He can sing, for sure.

So… Adam, Allison, and Nickmund (that last one purely on on a vftw basis)…

?

Half a mind to vote for Norman just to keep the show from taking itself seriously, but it’s time for the Top Chef finale.

I’m picking red haired Heart singing girl, Mishavonna and Adam as tonights winners. Adam needs a new 'do.

Seems likely. I’m sending some votes Jesse’s way, though probably in vain.

Thank god for Adam and Allison…otherwise this show would have been completely unwatchable. Normund was funny too - he’s clearly got a great voice but unfortunately obscures it under the comedy. Oh well.

I wouldn’t be bothered if Megan or Matt Girard snuck in over Normund. But the bald welder? Please no. Please, please no. He’s just…lifeless.

I thought Adam was so f’ing terrible I wanted to throw my television through the window. And it’s a heavy TV. It sounded like an 80’s hair band (I forget which one) covering the Stones, and it looked like Joesph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as done by Jefferson High School. The guy can sing, but he’s using his powers for evil.

I was convinced that Simon was gonna rip the guy a new hole, but he took it easy on him. I have no idea why, but he clearly thought the performance was a total joke.

Seriously, that anyone thought that performance was anything other than total crap absolutely blows me away. He’s running away with it on DialIdol.

Simon’s seeing dollar signs. He knows the teenage girls are gonna love Adam.

I also didn’t like the song choice. It’s not that I particularly love the Stones, but I think you’re taking a risk when you do their material. There’s a certain, I don’t know, wildly reckless sloppiness about Jagger’s vocals that shouldn’t be messed about with by someone that does musicals. You’re going to come off like a stiff professor of English if you try. Not to say Adam can’t sing, but that song was never about great vocals. He’d be better off tackling material that would benefit from technical ability, and stay away from the raw animal stuff.

The teenage girls will still pass him into the next round.

Adam creeps me the hell out.

Thank you, I’m glad I’m not the only one. I went from writhing in pain to wanting to shoot my television.

I’ve posted this before, but this is what I think of every time they put the camera on Adam.* No doubt he can sing, but he’s a character. He’s playing the role of American Idol contestant: Rock Edition, and he’s become so accustomed to it that he doesn’t know how to do anything else. I don’t doubt he’s sincere, but there’s no shred of genuine in him.

But what do I know? I texted for Nick/Norman 'til my thumbs hurt. He’s the only moment of joy I found in that whole show. I also threw a few votes Jessie’s way. She’s weird looking, but she can sing and she seems like a real person, unlike everyone else.

*BTW, if he had come out and sang “Everyone Has AIDS” I would have totally voted for him like a hundred times:

Everyone has AIDS!
My grandma and my dog 'ol blue (AIDS AIDS AIDS)
The pope has got it and so do you (AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS)
C’mon everybody we got quilting to do (AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS)
We gotta break down these baricades, everyone has
AIDS! x 20

They sure didn’t mix the groups well. Last week had more good people than could go through and this week everyone sucked.

Except Nick/Norman. I’m voting for him until I fall asleep.

And Megan looked like she was completely spastic. What the hell was she doing with her hips and arms? ::shudder::

I easily voted for Norman a good 15 times.

I enjoyed Megan’s performance the best. I like her voice and singing style.

Didn’t like Allison’s or Adam’s performances nearly as much as everyone else seems to.

The weird thing is that Adam, when he’s shouting, has a woman’s shouting voice, not a man’s.

Mishavonna has a pretty good voice. I have no idea what the hell the judges are on about regarding her “acting like a 50 year old”

When I heard that someone was going to be singing “Man in the mirror”, I thought, “What the hell are they thinking? They will never pull it off”. But Kris did a pretty decent job of it.

Worst of the night was Matt. Very bad.

I don’t even count Norman, since he is ridiculous.

Not sure if the judges were trying reverse psychology with Nick/Norman.
What an asset he would be to the tour! Who wouldn’t want to see it just for his entertainment?

I don’t get the judges’ love for Megan. She has absolutely no stage presence, no natural ability to move with feeling to the music, she’s very awkward with her feet firmly planted and the shoulder/hip thing. She can hit all the notes but there’s something weird about her phrasing or pronounciation, or something. Pretty face but the rest of the package doesn’t work at all.

Adam- I agree with comments upthread about how he comes with a sort of pre-fab Idol image; he can sing but he’s too… stylized, or something. He’s sort of creepy with the emo hair and beady eyes. And terrible, terrible song choice. He has a hubris that he can pull off a classic like Satisfaction- it didn’t work. He’s not an idol, he’s a community musical theatre star.

Betty Davis Eyes chick- sang it well, but (and this is just a pet peeve of mine) stop trying to be so folksy/chatty with the judges. It’s their time to critique you, not time for a give & take about music in general and how cool the synth drum beat of the song is, and don’t you just love it? It’s so cool… shaddup.

First three singers sucked. Matt the Welder sang well but the song sucked and he’s gone. Girl who sang the Heart song was great, Kris in the Mirror did pretty well. My wife and I were loving Norman, laugh out loud funny and the most entertaining performer on this show ever. If we were the type to actually vote, it’d be for him all the way.

And Paula was woofiecookies.

+1 Brooke did that last season, and it drove me up the wall.

I forgot to add, the dumbest comment of the night came from Mr. Welder.

Simon: I hated that song.
Welder guy: I disagree

What, you disagree that Simon hated your song? Try thinking about what you’re saying before you spout of something that makes no sense.

As soon as he came onstage, gazing into the camera, I said “Constantine! He’s back!” He chose “Satisfaction” because he liked the melody?

Just an awful show last night. I really felt like Seacrest and the judges were phoning it in. Lots of awkward pauses with nothing worthwhile coming out of anyone’s mouth.

Ok…I’m probably being dense here but this is tongue firmly planted in cheek right?

I watched only the first five.

Jasmine: wrong song and could not manage the low notes.
Giraud: wrong song altogether. “Viva la Vida” is a big, orchestral kind of song that he simply can’t handle.
Jeannine: Totally monotonous.
Nick/Norman: He’ll get himself a comedy gig somewhere, but he needs to accept that fact and stop taking himself so seriously as a singer.
Allison: Awkward upstairs, but came alive when singing. I was amazed to hear such a mature, sultry voice coming from a teen.
