I caught most of the performances online and wow, they did not impress. I agree that I’d take pretty much any of the boys (except Jason Y.) over pretty much any of the girls. The only girl I care about at all is Carly. She did well, but I still think we haven’t seen the best of her (I hope, anyway) yet. As of now I’m leaning toward:
David A.
The inevitable backlash of being the front-runner has already begun, and all it takes is one bad song choice to throw it all away, but I have a feeling this guy is shrewd enough to not let that happen any time soon. You know he has spent the last seven years studying for this moment, and he’s not going down without a fight.
…and in the race for runner-up…
2-9. Carly, Brooke (meh but I have to admit she sang really well this week), Gay Danny, Jason C. & Michael Johns (these two mainly based on cuteness and past performances), Chikeze (if he can continue being as good as this week), David H and David Cook I guess but I don’t really get the love.
10-17. All the other ones who I don’t remember but don’t suck enough for me to hate them.
Rocker Nurse. You are, should and will be a great bar-band singer. This competition is not the place for you, and you know it. Nice knowing you, but you’re wasting our time.
19-20. Luke Menard, Jason Yeager. I hate that you are here which means two worthy people from Hollywood didn’t make it. Shame on you. Go home.
You don’t seriously believe that the “aw shucks” stuff is an act, do you? From a sixteen year old kid who’s being praised, probably to a degree that he’s never heard about anyone else, much less himself, who is on stage in front of millions of viewers realizing a long-held dream. You ought to lay off the cynicism for a bit.
I’m giving the girls a break this week. Last week it was mentioned (again and again) that the girls were all laid low with the flu. It takes more than a week for lungs to clear up after even a cold. And, I don’t know about the rest of you, but my colds sit in my chest for long after I’m “better”.
So all of you who sounded like absolute crap yesterday-- you are forgiven. I’m sure I can find another reason to hate some of you next week.
Agree. In fact, it really isn’t aw shucks, at least not in the same sense as Melinda from last year. Hers was more surprise; his is more gratitude. I felt a little bit better when a large and diverse part of the crowd (almost everyone, really) cheered him and stood for him. It wasn’t just girls. There were guys yelling out, “Hot, baby!” and stuff like that, echoing Randy. He really has worked very hard, and he deserves the praise. I’m glad he appreciates it.
I do wish Pauler would shut up about how cute she thinks he is because that, more than anything, could hurt him with guys, I think. And that would be a shame. He can’t help what he looks like, and at least he doesn’t act like he’s all hot shit. To borrow from James Carville, it’s the voice stupid. He has the voice of an archangel. Really incredible.
Carly tends to scream, which turns me off.
Amanda, please leave.
I liked Brooke quite a lot this time. I still enjoy Ramiele–how does such a tiny wisp of a girl have a strong voice like that?
What a night of suckage. I actually thought quite a few of the guys did really well the night before, but tonight almost no one seemed even worthy of a yellow ticket to Hollywood, let alone the top 20.
I must’ve been watching a different show than everyone else on Tuesday, though, because I thought Michael Johns sucked and Luke Menard was darn good.
Tonight should be an interesting elimination round.
I actually liked Alexandrea’s take on “If You Leave Me Now.” It’s a great song despite Simon’s proclamation that it hasn’t been a hit since its inception for a good reason. And I liked that she mixed it up a bit. But I agree that her outfit didn’t fit the song. She should have had a dress on.
The only female singers with the x factor, IMO, are Ramiele and Carly.
Carly needed a more supportive bra. My husband liked her. :dubious:
I wish that one of the singers with golden pipes had taken on “All By Myself.” I agree that Asia’h just didn’t have the voice for it. Why the heck didn’t Kady the opera singer take it on?
Cruella’s makeup was lovely but her hair is distracting.
Yeah, what happened with Kady the Opera Singer? I have at best a mediocre voice, and I’m pretty sure I would sing about as good as she did last night - that was no opera-singer level performance. Maybe someone more knowledgeable about opera singing can enlighten me - is there a valid excuse for someone who sings opera making such a weak showing with a rock song?
I don’t know what the consensus here is on David Archuleta, but I don’t like his voice.
He seems to have great ability or technique in singing, but the sound of his voice does not sound pleasant to me.
The judges seem to have a hard-on for him though, and that may be due to the fact that (1) he has a good singing technique, which they appreciate, since it is lacking in some many of the other contestants and (2) he seems like he could become a huge teen and tween idol, thus selling a lot of records (and it looks good for American Idol if its winners do well commercially)
Another contestant the judges seem to have a hard-on for is Carly Smithson, and I don’t particularly like her either. Not sure I can put my finger on what exactly I don’t like, but I think it is a combination of her singing style and the grimmaces she makes when singing.
The ones I think did well the past couple of nights
Syesha Mercado
Alexandréa Lushington
Alaina Whitaker
Michael Johns
Chikezie
David Cook
Among the rest, I think Ramiele Malubay sings quite well, but last night did not do a good job.
As for Kady Malloy, I don’t think she sang well, but I hope she sticks around because she is eye candy
You know, being dumped made Jason’s performance more tolerable…he couldn’t have that big cheesy grin through the “lost her home and family” lines (and the rest of the song). AI has taught me that inappropriate grinning really ruins songs for me.
He won Star Search at age 12. Gimme a freakin’ break.
And I don’t dislike him, per se, I just think that performance was waaaaaay overrated. I’d like to see him do stuff that’s more suited to a teenage kid, stuff like he might put on an album, and then I can really tell you what I think.
