I think I know what you both mean. There is a lot of talent here, but I don’t sense a whole lot of joy in many of these performances, with Lisa being an obvious exception. I think they’re all trying too hard. I know that these kids’ careers could potentially be on the line here, but I wish that they’d act like they’re having at least a little bit of fun.
Katharine McPhee sounds OK. There is hope for this one, I think. She looks a bit like Kate Bosworth, doesn’t she? And, again, not a grotesque outfit, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I took notes. Here they are.
Ayln Brown-So far I like her the second best after Mandisa. But don’t like the New Wavey “I’m complete” at the end.
Becky O’Donohue- Because The Night. Yay! Don’t screw it up. Hey, what happened to the nice hair? Good Lord that sounds bad. Not liking the singing.
Brenna Gethers-- I hate her sooooooo much. Such a pretty song, such a bleh rendition. I’m afraid she’ll get through to the next round.
Healther Cox-- Too many clunkers for me to even turn my head to look. Ohh, blonde and pretty. Hit the money note and then a clinker right after it. Ugh.
Katharine McPhee-- Her timing is off. Not a bad voice. And I love the song too.
Kellie Pickler-- Man, I can’t stand her. I’m glad she sounds bad. Well, she did in the beginning. Since I don’t know this song, I can’t tell how well she’s singing it.
Are those notes supposed to be that clunky?
Kinnik Sky–I thought it was very good and she looked good.
Lisa Tucker-- The best so far. She’s super.
Mandisa (What, she doesn’t have a last name? How do you not have a last name?)
She’s pretty. Like her voice but I’m not wowed. I’ma give her a bye because I love Heart.
Melissa McGhee-- Don’t like the song or the performance. Clunkers galore. Made me afraid for her.
Paris Bennett- Sorry, not hearing that great a voice here. Why is she not singing in her range? It sounds a half an octave too low for her.a
Stevie Scott-- Interesting. I expected less clinkers from the opera singer though.

Any one of those bottoms can go as far as I’m concerned. Brenna could go too, just for peace of mind.

I wish my hair would do what Paris’ did. That is seriously one adorable hairdo. She is the cutest girl in the world.
Me neither. Not sure why. Maybe she’s too cute.
Watching and listening to Lisa (the other baby) makes me feel good.

I thought she looked a lot like Angelina Jolie, like when she won her Oscar. That’s a compliment, in case you were wondering.
She was close to the top 4, but not there. I’m voting for Katharine - or trying to - but Lisa was close. Mandisa, Lisa and Paris were all very close - and Katharine only edged them out by a bit. I’m really impressed with the talent as a whole.
Simon said “four great voices”. Who do you think he meant?

Stephanie “Stevie” should be gone this week – I kept waiting for Caleb Temple to shout out “Is that you, Merly?”
Wheat: Mandissa, Paris, Lisa, Katherine
Chaff: Becky, Stevie, Heather, Ayla, etc. There are several among the 12 who’d be more suited as extras on the Sopranos (Bada Bing girls, if you know what I mean)
Mandissa was painful to look at it but sounded good. Paris just makes me happy. Lisa is the real deal, very professional for her age, but to me she doesn’t have the charisma of Paris. Katherine was a suprise… she’s a bit goofy, but she did have the best performance tonight.
Paris instead of Ayla.
Personally, I’m not feeling the Mandisa love.
Yay Lisa! A bit over-dramatized, but she can grow out of that, the voice and control is superb, love her to pieces.
Love that Paula is back to sniffing glue and giving us the ‘you light a happy fire in my heart’ shit, hehehe.
Mandisa, Lisa, Paris, Ayla and Katherine need to stay, plus Stevie for the amusing weirdness. Don’t care about anyone else and actively dislike a few of them, as well as the wardrobe consultants!
I don’t like her, but she did do better than maybe 8 others this time around.

Good list, KSO. I agree, with some minor order changes. The bottom 3 are definitely dead weight. I’ll be thrilled to see any 2 of them go. Brenna is entertaining enough to stick around - I agreed with her and disagreed with Simon. I liked that she dialed it down a notch, but her performance didn’t do a lot for me.
Mandisa, Paris, Lisa and Katherine as the top 4.
Of the rest no one else was really that impressive. I think Kelly will stick around for a while because people seem to like that poor dumb hick daddy’s in prison bit but I thought she was pretty bad. I thought Stevie sucked the most, probably because I absolutely love that song even though it makes me want to cry. Her rendition made me want to cry for another reason entirely. It was painful. I think she’s one of the two to go.
Ugh. Other than Paris and Mandisa, they all more or less uniformly made my ears bleed. I hate, hate, hate Mariah Carey-style singing, and that’s what half of them did, and the others had other issues (what the hell was Becky doing? She absolutely murdered a great song). I TiVo’d AI, and found myself fast forwarding through most of the songs because I just couldn’t stand it. Gah!
Thank heavens that we get to listen to the guys instead tomorrow. They can’t be any worse!
I’d put Paris, Lisa and maybe Brenna at the top (I think Brenna’s a good performer and I like her personality).
I see the rest as all cannon fodder. I don’t see the fascination with Mandisa. I think she’s middle of the pack.Maybe it was just the song choice. Heart is pretty balls out and I thought she under sang it.
