Ta.
Sure you can. All you have to do is PALATRs who believe them, and ta-daa, you win!
No- that had to be the most contrived moment in the History of Reality Television. And that’s saying something.
Yes, it was the worst group sing ever. Even the song itself was terrible.
Alexis knew she was going down- her “sing for your life” was way worse than her performance the previous night. She sang it like she had already given up. It was a tough way to go though- first Randy couldn’t even remember her frakkin’ name, then- you’re out. Then- wait! They’re saving you!
Then, no, you sucked. You’re out again.
Oh- I never want to hear that song again. It was passable when Dolly did it, but it didn’t need to ever be heard again. If the only way I’ll be able to avoid it is to never watch the show again, so be it.
Agree. They sounded totally flat and lifeless. I think the group sing must be an afterthought in their week, what with the competition and the Ford music video to keep them busy.
Alexis had the additional weight of having to sing those particular lyrics – I’m sure it was hitting a little too close to home for her.
“Please, I’m begging you, my future happiness is resting on the decision you make here. Please don’t take away that which means so much to me.”
This whole “sing and we might save you” routine is so unnecessarily cruel. Let them go out with a little dignity, for pete’s sake.
No. I think everybody should make an honest attempt to sing the genre . When it comes to an Idol being successful , it is good if a singer can cross appeal. American Idol should be the most marketable. The program looks good if a alumus wins Grammys and sells millions of records. Underwood has been very successful in Country. I am sure if she could sell R & B ,everyone would be happier. But it is a little arrogant of Adam to blow off Country . Plus he offended the star they brought in to help them. Bad manners.
Yeah, I agree.
So let me get this straight: I sang my heart out on the first night, and you lambasted me and put me on the block, and now I’m up for elimination. But you might save me if I sing again tonight, but I have to sing the same song that got me up here to start with?
I was hoping that Alexis was going to turn to the band last night and say, “I gotta save my ass here. You know that crappy rendition I did the other night to ‘make it my own’? Well, scratch that, it wasn’t good enough. Tonight we’re doing the original version.”
If they had any dignity, they never would have auditioned in the first place. All they’re being asked to do is sing on television. They’re only getting eliminated from a game show, not thrown off a life boat. They can still go back to Starbucks.
The losers always got a sing-out before anyway. All this does it put a little purpose into it. Personally, I enjoy the degradation of it. It’s not like these are actual people or anything. These are reality show famewhores.
I am pretty sure I read somewhere that all the vocals for the group sings are all pre-recorded this year. They were lip-synching.
That’s certainly what it sounded like. I also had the impression that something was off about the group sing, and came to that conclusion.
Yeah, the charade during Alexis’ last-chance was pathetic. The judges could tell you right now who would get the save next week.
But who do they get to do the vocals if they don’t know from week to week who’s going home?
Oh- never mind. When you said ‘pre-recorded this year’ I thought you meant like weeks ago, not ‘this year, they’re pre-recorded’.
I’m going to hell for realizing the cruelty of this statement and laughing anyway.
It’s a really fun Travis Tritt song and I liked this the best of the group sings, probably because it’s a fun song that is supposed to be a little raucous.
I don’t get the big deal about the save – one more chance makes that much of a difference when it comes down to one person anyway? The only difference would be if it disrupted the top ten, which I’m glad it didn’t. It would have been 11 this week and nine next, so how would they decide on who the top ten are? It’s cleaner this way.
I was hoping they’d use the save last night b/c I don’t like the gimmick and just wish they’d use it so we could back to the old way of doing things.
Danny will probably get the save b/c we all know that Jesus Saves.
I am the only one that doesn’t have red hot rabid love for Anoop?
This attitude is exactly what’s wrong with American Idol. Are you trying to find an actual artist with a voice and a vision, or are you just looking for a malleable front for a marketing machine? Doesn’t the world have enough of those already?
If this show is to have any hope of finding real artists and not just the latest blow-dried front for a record company, it has to give them more breathing space and allow them to be themselves. No, they should NOT have to sing a song in a country fashion. Having a country week is fine, if the goal is to see what someone like Adam or David Cook will do with a country song to make it their own. In other words, do they have the creativity and ingenuity to take a song outside their genre and make it something they’re proud to perform?
I’d also argue that this makes much better television. The memorable moments on AI in the past are those times when someone came out and did something totally unique and unexpected. Even if they’re just copying a cover of some artist they admire, at least they’re showing what they value and the kind of music they want to make. And I’d much rather watch Adam or someone else crash and burn trying something risky and daring than to watch him boringly noodle his way through a song he hates in a genre he’d never sing if he had a choice.
Forcing a singer like Adam to croon a George Jones song would be an affront to his own artistic sensibility and a needless distraction from the presentation of him as the artist he is. The whole reason Adam’s performance was great was because he did exactly what he wanted to do, and didn’t compromise an inch even though I’m sure he knew a lot of people would hate it. I admire that.
I thought Adam was going to win this thing, purely on vocal talent and stage presence. But now that he’s shown a willingness to thumb his nose at the judges and the show and do what he wants, I think his chances of winning have gone down because ultimately he’ll be too strange for mainstream America. And that makes me like him even more.
Nope. I don’t think he’s terrible but I don’t get the love. I was scared when he touched “Always on My Mind” but only saw the recap and didn’t get too worked up.
Brad Paisley was excellent.
Yep.
