Katherine has a classic style; she’s a throwback. She should be doing Doris Day songs; sixties Streisand. There’s not much 21st c. music that suits her. She should have taken something from k.d. lang’s songbook, or one of Coldplay’s torchier songs. But she’s young, and so I forgive her for being an Aguilera fan. She’ll grow out of it.
Well, I haven’t seen last night’s episode yet, and after reading this thread I guess I really don’t have much to look forward to, but I wanted to make a plea here to everyone to please not encourage the use of Randy’s stupid word pitchy. Whatever his experience in the biz is, I don’t think he has a very good ear for pitch. In fact, it seems that complaints about pitch is his standard comment when he doesn’t love a performance but lacks the critical thinking skills to actually back up why.
Intonation would be a better term for singing slightly flat/sharp. Singing an A when you meant to sing Bb is a pitch problem.
Pedantry aside, I feel for Lisa. She was my pick from the very beginning. I think she has more natural talent than most of the remaining contestants, but she just doesn’t have the maturity to have enough presence. Paris is just a year older but I’ve seen her just go out and own the stage. Lisa needs another couple of years I think.
I also must confess to liking the Pickler. As Simon has said, there’s just something likable about her.
Anyway, since I tend to be behind a few days on each episode it’s back to lurking mode for me.

Tied for Hideous and Horrifying Performance: Lisa (that was just plain painful), Kellie (she sang about soap suds in a bucket?? Her schtick is so freakin’ annoying), Ace (no wonder this guy hasn’t been able to make it in Hollywood on his own – he sucks!), Mandisa (woman cannot “sing,” she can only scream. Low, quieter notes were badly off key/sharp/flat/pitchy – every. single. one. I just do not get the love for this woman.) and Chris (goatboy screams repetitively one sharp note for a minute twenty-nine seconds longer than I can stand).
I think the bottom 3 will be Lisa, Ace and Chris. I think Chris is in for a very rude awakening, given the backlash from last week’s debacle and this week’s frighteningly bad song choice and performance. He lost a lot of fans because of those two things, but will it be enough to actually plunge him to the bottom? I really think it might be. Well, a girl can hope, anyway.
We say “pitchy” in response to Randy; he says it’s “pitchy” and the simplest way to respond to that is to say “it’s not pitchy.” Otherwise we’d have to tangentially redefine our terms for each post.
To be fair, he says sharp when he means sharp, and flat when he means flat. “Pitchy,” to him, means it was both; it was all over the place. I’d say with Randy saying it on national Television for however many years now, your battle is lost.
Apparently this Nigel guy who produces the show said tonight’s results are “shocking.” I think he says that every other show, but this week it’s supposed to be really, really shocking. Just relaying the news from TWoP. Your shockage may vary.

Yes, apparently the entire bottom 3 are supposed to be shocking, much like the 3 divas week in season 3. If it’s that shocking, then the expected bottom-dwellers Lisa, Bucky and Ace can’t be among them tonight. Therefore my prediction is: Paris, Mandisa and Chris, with Mandisa going home.
