American Idol 4/12

I thought it was increadibly sweet he gave her his tie. Yeah yeah I know it’s not really his tie, but still.

And as far as Bo playing weddings go: after his little speech upon hearing he was in the final three, all I can say is forget about him playing my wedding, he must BE in my wedding! Preferably standing next to me.

Constantine looked like he was about to jump on Bo’s lap during that little speech, too. He so wants to be Bo. Of course he never can because…well… you just can’t fake some things.

I don’t see why He should be bothered with overseeing all that hydrogen and stuff. I reckon the physical laws He architected would tend to that. Maybe His concern is more for people who worship Him and less for gas clouds.

The only thing that surprised me about Bo being in the bottom three was that it took this long. It seems like a lot of people think he’s attractive and are basing their opinion of him on that, but he’s just not that good a singer. And while his whole " rocker"/“dangerous” image might have been believable if this was 1975, it’s not 1975, and he just seems like a reactionary throwback, IMO. OK, enough griping about Bo.

I think they’re all getting pretty boring this season. Constantine is at least singing better, though his stage presence is still repugnant. Scott needs to return to the pumpkin patch from whence he came (I’m not trying to imply he’s a hick; I’m trying to imply that he’s a pumpkin). And Carrie needs to have her programming updated - that glazed-eyed Stepford look went out with heroin chic. As for the rest of them, they’re mastering the art of blandness more each week, which leaves no doubt in my mind they’ll all go far in pop music. Funny how the ones that really stick out for me do so for their negative qualities.

BTW, the one part of Tuesday night’s show I missed was Scott’s little taped interview before he performed; I gather from comments in this thread he was really obnoxious in it. Anyone care to clue me in on what he said?

But Nadia can’t sing. I love her stage presence, but I think voice lessons would greatly benefit her.

He talked about having wanted to be a musician, rather than a singer, when he was a wee one, banging out rhythms on household objects (and his brother’s head), and claimed that “I’m the real rocker in this competition!” He also appeared to throw a gang sign.

Hey, thanks!

A Latin Kings sign, wasn’t it? I dunno. “I love you” has the hand held palm forward, but maybe he’s confused…

You’re welcome!

On another topic, is it warm in here, or is it just me?

Well, I was worried that in the process of power-voting for Nadia (175 times! Am I mad?) Tuesday night, I was blocking other people who would then give up on voting for her that night. Counterproductive, like I said. Actually, that’s sort of why the number got that high. I was able to get a lot of calls in the last half-hour (in a way I wouldn’t expect if it were for Constantine). On the other hand, I figure she lost by more than 175 votes. Drop in the bucket.

I’m displeased:
Yeah, my crush object is gone. But more than that…
There are now 250% as many men as women. (Apparently because of their personal diversity. The women that got through the semis were a less diverse bunch than the men that got through. So the guys had—&—have distinct identities & fan bases, while the girls didn’t.)
Three of those men are worse than the last three contestants out (yes, even than Nikko).
I picked these three as the next three that should go two weeks ago, & they’re all still here.
One of those three has veered into being personally offensive, & the judges are flattering the thug, while giving the audience permission to drop two of the moderately strong singers.

(Hey, maybe the people who run the show want the older, stronger personalities like Nadia & Bo gone, because they won’t be handled. Then again, they appear to be letting Constantine be Constantine…)
I’m philosophical about it, though:
With my crush object gone, I can judge the remaining contestants more objectively.
And I did see it coming, so I’m not fainting from shock. I’ve had a few weeks to get used to the idea.
It’s like in high school, when my alternative-music-listening friends said, they liked stuff that got into the Top 40, but not usually the Top 20. For someone like Nadia—or Bo, for that matter—getting 8th place in the top 12 is nothing to be ashamed of. Steak is steak, but kids do so like hamburgers.
And it helps that I’ve been through a previous season as AI obsessive. After last year, I know how this works.

Oh yeah, my mom missed it last night, so I taped it for her. She has had the idea that Nadia & Bo should have been the final two. She also, for some strange reason, likes Scott (at least better than Anwar, Anthony, & Nikko).

She actually asked me, after watching the tape, whether I voted at all for Scott last night. I said, no, he didn’t have a recognizable tune on the first verse.

Then we saw the results show. And my mom, who was kind of rooting for Scott as non-standard body-type guy, was really perturbed by how it went. She didn’t want to keep Scott over those two. She was so sad to see Nadia go.

I meant his songs are kind of … goofy. Post-Beatles, anyway. Sometimes I think they were written by a 14-year-old girl. If I didn’t actually look some of his songs up, I would never believe they could be attributed to him.

Apparently, it was “God’s will” for Nadia to go.

I’m not getting the Bo-love, though he was pretty cute in that link Rilch provided. He actually said, “It’s all good.” I hate it when people say that!

Oh, MY! It IS warm in here!

Count me in on the list of people scratching their heads, wondering what on earth would motivate people to vote for Scott. Way back in the first auditions, I was rooting for him, since apparently his father treated him badly, and he did have a good voice. But I thought he was an utter ass during the team-singing portion, and nothing he has done since then has made me change my mind. And, frankly, his performances haven’t rated his continuing on the show — others who have been voted off have done better.

Nadia has always been one of my favorites. She doesn’t have the voice range that some of the others do, but she is a top-notch performer. And I think she definitely has done the best job each week of finding a fascinating costume to wear and a stylish look — not anything you’d wear on the street, but going after “star” type clothes, instead of jeans and a cute top. Not that that makes her a better musician than others, but it does show her awareness that she’s supposed to be an entertainment package.

I thought Constantine looked pretty good last night for the first time. I just haven’t gotten these people sighing “Oh, he’s so Cuuuuute!” before. With his yucky hair pulled back, though, he doesn’t look bad.

Ditto for Bo. I don’t think he’s bad looking (except for the stupid soul patch), but I don’t like the long hair look. In that younger picture of him, though, he does look pretty damned good.

Vonzell is still my favorite overall, but I don’t think she has a chance.

I do vote for the ones that I feel are most talented and that I like. Carrie and Vonzell may be talented but to me they are dull performers and do nothing for me. I happen to like Bo and Nadia. I agree that Nadia may not have been good enough to win, her performances were inconsistent, but when she was on she was on and damn hot, too.

(Yeah, I’m a hetero female but I’d put Nadia on my If I Were a Lesbian “to do” list.)

Also, I know how this show works, people don’t get voted off in order of their talent. If others can vote for their less talented favorites and keep them on longer than they deserve then I can certainly vote for someone more talented and likeable than the ones who hang around too long.

Nope, nope. Back off, I claimed him on page five.

ConstantCheese looked like the devil last night when they were telling him what the judges said about him last night. Also, his teeth? Kinda nasty yellow.

Rilchiam, thank you!

I like it!

Out of curiosity I clicked on the “community” tab at the AI site. Those people seem equally perplexed about Scott’s continuing “luck” and staying power. Granted, their writing style is generally on par with my 7 year old but they seem to generally have the same WTF  feeling we’ve all been experiencing.

Sorry to pick on you, Biggirl (although I know you can take it), but…

a) Why do you say you “just don’t understand America” when you yourself just gave a reason for not voting for Bo??? You have a good reason, but everyone else just has bad taste?

  1. It ain’t America, anyway. At best, it is “American Idol viewers.” In reality, it is “AI viewers with enough time and inclination to vote.” Seacrest does this, too, and it chaps my butt every single time. (Makes for a very chapped butt by Wednesday night).

c) I hate the Vote early and vote often system. I think everyone should have one vote. I bet the results would make much more sense if they used the one vote system. I realize you didn’t make this decision, Biggirl, but I am on a roll.

Anthony must have signed his deal with the Devil in blood, with Scott in line right behind him. I don’t get it.

Seacrest f’d up last night. I knew Nadia was going when, right as she was about to sing, he said something like, “Her last time on this stage”. I thought maybe I heard it wrong, but then she was the one to go. Did anyone else hear that?

I liked Nadia, but she kept picking bad songs. I’m just glad Bo is still there. I’ve got to get voting!

I can see why the producers would rather have you vote for someone than against someone. It makes it seem nicer.

I thought that too. “Say, Nadia, it looks like America hates you more than any of the other contestants!”
