American Idol 4/14 & 4/15 (Open spoilers and speculation)

I was not impressed either.

I actually loved Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls. I was thinking of going to a concert she’s doing here next week. It’s a little out of our price range, but I was willing to splurge. After hearing her last night, however, not so much. I think I’ll let this one pass.

So for Disco week, I hope somebody does “September” by Earth, Wind, & Fire. Not sure who’d I’d like to sing it though…maybe Kris or Matt.

Also would love to hear “I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You” by the Bee Gees but that’s unlikely.

I have never understood the love for Jennifer Hudson. I didn’t see Dream Girls, but goodness knows I’ve seen her perform The Song enough times and that’s sufficient. I take it her performance was better in that movie than her small role in Sex & the City. Holy cow was that some bad acting.

As for Ms. Cyrus, someone should have explained to her that one doesn’t do the rockin’ head bang thing when one’s hair has been coiffed to match one’s fancy evening gown. Dumb kid.

Oh and I meant to add, does anyone thing any of the boys will have the nerve to do “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” ? That’s some pretty high cheese factor there and we’ve got some pretty cheesy contestants. Also, I can totally see Allison singing “Bad Girls” or really any Donna Summer song.

Somebodys got to do Dancing Queen…

Sigh. I know there’s a lot of criticism on here about the contestants’ lack of musical knowledge and the way they only pick well-known, middle of the road songs, but I honestly couldn’t name a single disco song. Does Gloria Gaynor count as disco? I’m not even sure… Actually, watching AI has introduced me to a lot of music I’ve never encountered before. I usually just stick to whatever’s playing on the local rock station, which never, ever shows up on AI - except for Matt’s extra-lame Coldplay attempt.

So, yeah, I have nothing to contribute to the disco song choice speculation, but I think next week could be interesting!

And that was a total waste of a save. If they’re going to have a save, there’s no point in using it this far into it when the finalists are pretty well established. They should have saved Alexis.

If Adam doesn’t pick Play That Funky Music next week, I’ll eat my hat.

Hee hee - “I’m Coming Out” for Adam. “Dancing Queen”?

Someone’s going to do “Le Freak” by Chic and “Staying Alive” by the BeeGees. I think they’re arm-wrestling as we speak over who gets to do “The Winner Takes It All” by Abba. I can hear a really wretched version of “Boogie Fever” (probably by a very awkward Danny).

Listening to my disco selection to see what they might come up with, I think a flaw with a disco night is that disco songs are heavily instrumental.

The problem with disco is that none of them has the disco energy except Adam. I’m just not picturing the rest of them shaking their groove thing while singing.

Other possibilities:

“MacArthur Park” aka “Someone Left the Cake out in the Rain”
“Last Dance”
“You Should be Dancing”
“Shake Your Bootie”
“Xanadu”

Adam could do “YMCA”…

Didn’t he sing that two weeks ago?

No one should ever do “MacArthur Park”. Carrie Underwood did it really well and still got grief for it. Ppl can’t seem to get past the horrible lyrics, even though the song gives a performer a chance to put on a powerful performance. No one should put on a great vocal performance and then have to apologize about the inane lyrics. It takes away from the moment.

I think, “Smoke from a Distant Fire” would be well-suited to someone with great vocal ability.

Yes, he did.

Last night with the bottom three, I couldn’t have given a shit. Send them all home, those three are going home anyway.

I was very unimpressed by both Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus. Miley’s voice is just terrible, although her hair looked nice. Hudson kept messing with her ear monitor, and it made me wonder if for the first half she couldn’t hear, because it sounded like she wasn’t even singing that song. Is that how that song goes? I can’t stand R&B, so I’ve never heard it, but I did love her when she was on Idol and in Dreamgirls.

I agree.

Disco Week next week! Woo-hoooo!

Here’s the list of songs each contestant will choose from:

Ghetto Booty Lil - Shake Your Booty, Shake Your Groove Thang, Tonight’s the Night (to go - if there is a God!).

Dead Wife Danny - The Hustle, Pick Up the Pieces, Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel, Hand Jive, Heart of Glass(es), Dead Giveaway, There But for the Grace of God Go I, When Will I See You Again.

Shovel Face Matt - Never Can Say Goodbye, Second Time Around, Please Don’t Go, I Will Survive, Staying Alive, Another One Bites the Dust, Don’t Leave Me This Way, It Seems to Hang On, I Just Can’t Say Goodbye.

Anoop Dogg - Who Let the Doggs Out, I Don’t Believe You Wanna Get Up & Dance, He’s the Greatest Dancer (NOT!), Boogie Shoes, My Feet Keep Dancin’, I Wanna Dance Wit’ Choo, You Should(n’t) Be Dancin’.

Allison The Red - Young Hearts Run Free (Yes Judges, she IS 16; we get it), Tell Me Something Good (But don’t mumble), Forbidden Love, Who’s Gonna Take the Weight.

Monkey Face Kris (the first four are for the ladies) - You Sexy Thing, Hot Stuff, Gimme Some, Do You Think I’m Sexy, Theme from the Simpsons (Doesn’t he get Simpson’s character lips when he sings?), Shock the Monkey.

Adam Glambert (these are too easy) - It’s Raining Men, YMCA, In the Navy (OK the whole Village People playlist), More Than a Woman, My Forbidden Love (fight with Allison over this one), Dancing Queen, Queen of Clubs, I’m Coming Out.

Oh, I get it. Because Adam’s gay. How droll.
