American Idol 4/14 & 4/15 (Open spoilers and speculation)

Other than last week, I think DI had been perfect so far this year. VFTW can throw it off a bit, as almost every Worster uses it.

First of all, I HATE that they are now judging in pairs. The only opinion I really care about is Simon’s anyway. Ugh.

Here’s my rankings:

Kris - best of the night. Randy was on crack with his “I don’t know, dawg” criticism. It’s somewhat risky for Kris because a lot of older viewers might not be familiar with the song, but I liked it.

Anoop - I was expecting a train wreck, but really liked his version of this song. He “made it his own” without wrecking the melody.

Allison - I expect so much from her and this was one of the few times that she just didn’t rock my world. But it was still better than most.

Adam - For the love of all that is unholy, save me from Screech Rock. And, honestly, I hate when people criticize contestants based on how they look, but Adam is too chunky to pull off that look. If he’d just lose 20 pounds and maybe lift a weight or two, he’d have the looks to match the swagger.

Matt - He should have given that song a bluesy interpretation instead of whatever the heck he did with that song.

Danny - Really, really rough start. It was all over the place. It got better but it just paled in comparison to the original or even the remake.

Lil - I coudl tell from her expressions in weeks’ past that she’s got 'tude that she’s trying to repress. She didn’t suppress it last night and it will not help her cause. Her biggest issue is that she really has no innate musicality. Everyone else left has it in varying degrees. Send her home.

By the way, did anyone see the “Britain’s Got Talent” clip that was linked to on Yahoo yesterday? If not, go to YouTube and search “Susan Boyle.” I’m not a sucker for glurge but I have to admit to crying like a baby.

I don’t follow the show but my wife was watching in the other room and I came in for the tail end of it. That was one bunch of suck-ass songs I heard.

Also, I thought the judging in pairs thing was stupid. According to the wife, it’s because they were running short on time. No genius considered this before they added a fourth judge?

That Susan Boyle clip was amazing. She completely shocked the audience. They were on their feet before she was even a minute in. It was really something.

I really hope Chris goes home. I can’t stand the smirk/smile he constantly wears. Looks like the type of person who’s two-faced as hell.

I’m betting on Matt Giraud.

I never saw Jennifer Hudson or Miley Cyrus perform before. Wasn’t that impressed with either.

The right two people in the crosshairs right now, IMHO. I hope they don’t waste the save on either of them.

I thought both J Hud and Miley were good. Matt did well enough with a crappy song, but I think it was a little too obvious that it was on the index cards to use the save tonight. It was really overplayed and a little sickening.

Still less sickening than the Twins game though.

I"m glad the save is finally done with - it’s not like the contestant’s final song was going to make a difference anyhow. The part with Simon starting by acting tough as if he wasn’t going to use it while all the other judges “protested”…yuk. Talk about your cruise ship quality performances.
Why oh why are they having a disco night? Does anyone think it’s coming back soon? It’s worse than having a gospel night or an opera night. I’m looking forward to seeing Adam though, I’m sure he’ll have fun with it.

I was impresses with Miley, not so much with Jennifer.

I voted for Matt to be voted off in the Pool - shit. What happens now?

I was surprised at the save. I am curious as to how it was obvious to you guys. Fill me in?
Miley does sing great, love that song also.
Am looking forward to disco week!

That was the first time I’ve heard Miley Cyrus sing. I didn’t like her voice at all–it was very nasal and she enunciated like she had marbles in her mouth.

Agreed that the whole “judges’ save” drama was telegraphed and poorly acted. I hope Lil and Matt are the two who go home next week.

Simon hinting that he’d use it for “one of them.” The “girls” standing up. The (I think, prompted) excessive applause. The other contestants running out the stage. They were falling over backwards to convince America that Matt had done something extraordinary. He did do fine, but it’s almost like people responded before the song started.

Since they used the save card, does that mean that we can get rid of two of these sucks next week?

ETA at least we know for sure we’ll be spared the torture of seeing Gokey getting voted off and then saved.

Yes. Two will go next week, probably Matt and Lil.

Was that really weirdly anticlimactic or what?
Who cares if they saved Matt?
MATT?!?
Really?

I could swear I heard Ryan say the judges only had two more weeks to use the save if they didn’t use it tonight. Could that be why they did it? And, did anyone else hear that?

Yes, I heard that. had they mentioned that before? Weird. So…lets figure what song would be best for Adam.

“You Sexy Thing”

Yes, the “save” was only available until the final 5 were chosen. They mentioned it once or twice, quietly, in the beginning.

I actually thought Miley Cyrus was better than I imagined she’d be. Not that she was great, but she was more … polished … I guess than I thought. What is she, 16? That dress was a little grown up for her, no?

So… Disco week.

Advantages:

**Adam **(of course): Very curious to see what he pulls out.

Lil: I think if she chooses the right song, this style suits her. If she plays to her voice and does a straight version of a song like “On the Radio” she can do well. If she does what she did with Tina and tries to become the original performer she’ll be out the door.

Disadvantages:

Allison: The style doesn’t suit her gravelly voice, but I think she’s talented enough to surprise. No sure thing though.

Anoop: Tough to find a disco song that doesn’t benefit from *some *movement on stage. That’s his downfall. What do you guys think he could sing?

The Rest:

Gokey: Much douche potential.

Kris: Tough call. Not sure what I see from him in Disco. maybe a really pared down version of something.

Matt: If he can R&B-up something on the keyboard he could surprise.

“I Feel Love” (Starting about 2:30)
