American Idol 4/20-21

I love that song, but I kept wanting to smack him and say “stop changing the melody on the part that people are supposed to sing along to!!

I have to agree with this - I thought that was a lovely performance. When she hit those notes at the end, I got a little teary. But honey, stop talking.

I don’t follow this kind of thing (I even fastforward through most of the actual show) so can someone tell me what is up with this?

Also, my TiVo cut off the end, so I didn’t see the judges critique of Crystal… can someone recap?

Randy gave her a standing O, Ellen said she was beautiful, Kara said something forgettable, and Simon said she was fantastically good, or fantastically something.

What’choo guys think about her dress? Was she too short for it? There was a lot of dress on the floor. And to be even more superficial, shouldn’t she do something more elegant with her hair when she’s wearing a dress like that? And is she missing a tooth? I think she’s awesome. She’s the closest thing to a “normal” person I’ve seen on the show yet. I think her slightly jittery demeanor when she’s not singing makes her seem more real.

The dress was wrong for her - she slumped over in it because she not used to having her chests all cranked up and exposed like that and it made her self-conscious (I figure, anyway). It was a good thought for the song, though - just not the right dress. I think she should get rid of the ridiculous dreads, but I hate dreads on everyone.

Hope you’ll stay:

  1. Crystal
  2. Lee
  3. Siobhan

Don’t mind either way:
4. Casey

Go away:
5. Aaron
6. Michael
7. Tim

Switch Mike with Lee and you have my list.

I detested all of the song choices tonight. Every single one. Everyone is boring, bland and without a stitch of killer instinct. The song choice list wasn’t great, but there were better options for all of the contestants.

Another thing: Crystal is a better singer/performer, but I like the tone of Siobhan’s voice better.

Tonight, IMO:

  1. Crystal (sang it beautifully, but it’s a boring song no matter who sings it.)

  2. Lee (agree with above comment re: “what’s inspirational about The Boxer?” but it was on the list so you can’t hold it against him.)

  3. Siobhan (I disagreed with the judges and thought she sang very well. Every week they criticize her for something, and every week she answers their criticism, and they shake their heads in agreement…)

  4. Casey (he is what he is, their not going to get anything wildly out of his comfort zone from him.)

  5. Aaron

  6. Mike (don’t get him at all.)

  7. TUrban (ugh.)

PS: I don’t quite understand the David Cook worship I see here. I liked him well enough in his season, but has he done anything special since? I’m not hating on him, he seems cool enough, I just feel like I missed something where he walked on water or something.

I only tuned in long enough to see Siobhan’s performance. I thought it was decent, better than she’s done lately, although still nowhere near as wonderful as I thought she was going to be, back at the beginning…

And oh, the talking! No more of that!

DialIdol, which hasn’t been doing as well this season as it does usually, has a “shocking” boot predicted.

Casey James is at the bottom of their list.

Last week Crystal supposedly ran out of the studio (or the house, or something) threatening to quit and go home to Ohio. Ryan caught her in the parking lot and talked her down, saying “the best thing I ever did was make enough to buy my mom a house; you could buy your mom a house.” Later she tweeted that “everyone has moments of doubt…” I believe you can get the full story on TMZ or MJsBigBlog, but that’s the gist of it.

Missed the first two. I wish I had missed Tim. He just does nothing for me, and I think people are merely voting for his bangs.
Aaron did quite well. I thought the judges were a bit hard on Siobhan and a bit easy on Mike. I liked Crystal.

I just don’t get the Siobhan hate. I thought she was amazing. If she can just dial it down a bit on her vocals. She has more originality that anyone on the panel of judges except for Ellen and I don’t think it’s cultivated. Kara seems to want to put her in a box (hippy, goth, rocker, R&B, country, pop) that’s the opposite of being original.

Aww, Cookie had them often (though usually AFTER he sang - remember the finale night when he sang “The World I know” and broke down after? Luffly!)

I thought it was a lovely spontaneous happening with Crystal. She may stay in a box but it’s HER box and in that she seems very sincere.

He’s actually done a lot of touring behind his first post-AI album, been to Iraq (with the USO) and Ethopia (the latter for IGB and the United Nations) and has shown himself to be a consumate performer and Idol representative. So yeah, I am a big fan and will be for a long time. It’s probably just a matter of taste, SY. My husband is not a fan (but he might be jealous or deaf or something like that.)

Also heard that this story may have been given to the press by Seacrest himself, to make himself look good after all of his bizarre behaviour on the show lately.

Point in fact, she threatened to quit saying “what’s the point??”, which is what prompted Ryan’s reply of ‘you can buy your mom a house.’ I was almost hoping that there’d be a voting backlash this week as a result- ‘Oh rly? Dunno what the point is? Wanna go home? See ya!’- but I doubt it. When you have the judges fellating you every week, the producers go out of their way to get you a freakin’ didgeridoo player, and they’ve all but handed you the title, it’s not like you’re suffering through the process. Not like TUrban, who (justifiably) gets anally raped by the judges and takes it with a smile on his face.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Sioban, and I have to wonder if at this point the judges are intentionally messing with her to keep her from being a credible threat to Bowersox. There wasn’t anything in her performance last night that justified their comments, especially Kara’s ongoing dumbass critique of ‘I just don’t know who you are!’

Yeah, the judges aren’t saying anything useful to Siobhan at all. If she were a little older and a little more mature (like David Cook was his year on AI), she’d just listen to them, thank them, and ignore them and keep doing her thing. I think she’s tied up in knots right now, not having a clue what direction they’re trying to steer her in. I think she has the potential for a helluva singing career; I’m not sure it’s with the AI people. Does Pink have a music label yet?

Soon enough he will be in TigerBeat magazine.

It inspired him to learn the guitar. That makes no sense (ie, that’s not what They intended on inspirational night) but that’s what he said.
