Is Kellie the first not to get a sing out?
I had to laugh when I heard Ryan announce tonight. He heard ya!

Simon’s apology to Kat – she sounded better recorded than she did live? Is that what he meant?
I’ll bet he wasn’t even listening, the first time. It’s the dress’s fault.
I think so.
Yes!! That will make me happy for the rest of the month. And maybe even some of the next one.
Ding Dong, the Suckler’s gone.
I have screamed at the TV in previous years over cuts that offended me. Nadia Turner before Scott Savol? Amy Adams before John Stevens? This year has gone better than I expected. Any of the top 5 would be okay as the winner.
I still miss Gedeon & Ayla, 'cos they could emote while singing.
I was just glad to see Kellie go before anybody else. At this point I can’t really complain with whoever gets voted out next – all the major suck is gone. If Paris had gone before Kellie, that would have been a total travesty. As it is now, let Chris win since he wants it so much; let the others go on to decent careers free of the soul-sucking machine .
So now I can just relax and enjoy the rest of the season. There’s nobody I love madly enough to turn into a redialing squealing teen like Bo did to me last year, and I’ll be fine with whatever happens.
Oh no, they got us!
Actually, it’s easier to type Memories than The Way We Were, I have to hit caps lock too many times and it’s more letters. I suppose we could type TWWW BUT THEN WE MIGHT ACCIDENTALLY LEAVE THE CAPS LOCK ON … see!
I heard this song 47 bajillion times in my formative years and it scarred me for life. I know the actual title but I really don’t care.
I don’t think Kellie got a sign out because she kept talking through it. I think Ryan asked if she wanted to say anything before she sang, she was just still talking when they signed off.
By the way, Ryan said it was 47.5 million votes. Did anyone hear what next week’s theme is going to be? When do they start doing two songs each?
Oh yeah, almost forgot …
WOOHOOOOOOOOO!
Next week they start singing two songs, right?
and…work
That is how they have done it in years past…as it stands, there are already 38 minutes of commercials during the hour, so if they don’t sing two songs each, half the audience will be asleep before the show is over.
Glad to see Kellie leave…still find it hard to believe as I just assumed her “aw shucks” schtick would charm the pants off voters for at least another three weeks or so.
Of those left, I think Chris has the most talent, and certainly has a knack for picking good songs. I thought Paris was good this week, but not sure if she can pull it through for much longer. But as others have said, the real suck is gone so now it really is the song(s) and performances that will make or break them.
Oh, and is it just me or is Paula Abdul about to have a live meltdown on national television before this season is over…I think she was one cashew short of the nut house by the end of Tuesday’s show.
This is really bad, but was Gideon (sp?) in this year’s or last’s season? He was a very strange fella, but he had the pipes.
Re. Kellie going. I’m happy that she’s gone…because this wasn’t right for her. It was plainly obvious that she was just doing this for publicity (and maybe practice performing in front of a crowd), and a guaranteed record deal would have crushed the life out of her. Now she can go on a fun, relaxing tour before heading back down south with her head held high.
She got what she came for and went at the right time. For the life of me, I can’t see what’s wrong with any of this.
Re. all the suck being gone. I never thought this was a big deal; it always happens at some point. The reason it’s such an incredible relief (for some) is that the one-at-a-time format allow a ton of room for error until pretty late. Of course, what I’d like to see is for the producers to have the guts to open up the song choices a little, but that’s probably yet another lost cause. Sigh.
Re. who’s it gonna be…
Chris had a Bo Bice Scare and responded by kicking it up eight or nine notches. This can’t be stressed enough: He was completely out of his element for three straight weeks, and he came out of it stronger than ever. He’s unstoppable right now. Katharine, despite her highly questionable taste in clothing, is right behind him. Taylor barely held on the past couple of weeks, and now looks to be nearly out of gas; he won’t last much longer. Elliot’s a very good performer, but just doesn’t seem to have the edge needed to move past Katharine and Chris. Paris has been flat-out unlucky and will run out of chances soon.
So it’s a two-man…er, two-competitor…race, with Elliot having just a glimmer of hope. I’m going to stand by Katharine as the one I want to win. The pop-idol mold is just a better fit for her than anyone else. Somehow I doubt that now mega-popular Chris will have any more trouble finding work once he’s out.
Dammit and I tuned in too late to hear it! I was trying to see if Lost was a rerun or not and missed the first 5 minutes of Idol.
Gideon was this season. And I’m sad. No more Pickler to pick on.
Ace was on my local news. He said he paid over $2000 for that guido/linebacker suit and the AI allowence didn’t even cover a quarter of it. This tells us a few things. . . AI clothing allowance is a pittance, they choose their own clothes and Ace has baaaaaaad taste in expensive suits.
No clue as to next week’s theme?
from americanidol.com: “Now, Tuesday at 8/7c the Final 5 will be performing two songs each – one from the year they were born and any song from this week’s Top 10 Billboard Charts.”
They just have their ages on the AI site so not clear which year is the birthyear.
My introductory post after my triumphant return (whaddaya mean noone noticed I left?)
Every time Chris is on stage I can’t help picturing the big-eyed cat in Shrek 2.
Goodbye Kellie, you dumb hick.
I read your comment through a few times, and every time I read it and thought of BOTH the ACTOR who voiced the big-eyed cat in Shrek 2 AND Chris, I pictured them both naked! And sure enough, in my mind’s eye, they DO have a few similarities…
Thanks for the daydream! Tho if Chris ever sings “Livin’ La Vida Loca”, he’s OUT of my daydreams for good! !http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=7339061&subscription=0#
Big Grin
And I second, third and fourth that “goodbye, Kellie”!
Some of these people (like me) were born in the 70’s … I’m not sure whether to be thrilled or mortified at the options this opens, song-selection-wise.
OK, here we go:
Taylor - 10/6/76 - Dream Weaver/ ??
Elliott - 7/20/78 - Baby Come Back/ What Hurts the Most (country but it could be croony)
Chris - 12/26/79 - **I Will Survive ** (out of the comfort zone!!) / When the Stars Go Blue (Tim McGraw’s version is on the country charts, but it’s a Ryan Adams song)
Katharine - 3/25/84 -What’s Love Got to Do With It?/
Paris - 9/23/88 -** Anything for You**/ ??
Someone has to do “Bad Day”! but no one with a falsetto is left to do “You’re Beautiful”.
