Is Andre bind?
No really, what’s up with him?
I feel that the guest singers have generally given quite good advice to the idolites, especially Barry Manilow. He tried to teach them to tell a story to their audience. But it seems none of them learned much from the lesson. Kat, Paris and Elliot had totally inappropriate facial expressions and ruined the entire affect of the song. Pickles and Grecian Formula were off key more than on. Chris was the only one to put the right emotion into the song and stay on key.
Bottom 3: Taylor, Kellie, Elliot
Ya, he doesn’t look at the camera much either.
I thought Chris and Elliot were the best tonight. Pickler HAS to be going home (please).
I read somewhere – probably earlier in this thread – that he’s blind. That would explain Foster being surprised that he picked Pickler to be a blonde.
Come on, it really isn’t that hard to tell, sight or not. I guess even Italians know a blond when they hear one.
I like Taylor but he chose the wrong song.
Kat was okay, and so was Paris.
Chris and Elliott did quite well.
Kellie is a total freaking disaster.
Yes, Bocelli’s blind; he was struck in the head by a soccer ball at the age of twelve and suffered an aneurism which cost him his sight.
I am glad that I am not alone. I am a huge Buffalo Bills fan, and I just couldn’t watch them while Flutie was playing there. It about broke my heart.
If you’ve ever seen The Soprano’s, his music is playing often, Tony’s wife plays it a lot. I’ve heard ‘Con Te Partiro’ more than once. But he should stick to Italian or Spanish, singing in English just doesn’t fit him imho. His video A Night in Tuscany is pretty good if anyone is interested and doesn’t want to fork out $15 for a cd.
I can’t believe Pickler is still around. I think that bald guy is the best, followed by Elliot, but i’ve only seen about 60 minutes of this all season.
Every year, people start off saying how the talent is so much greater than any of the previous seasons, but always it comes back around to this.
All my Google ads are goat-related!
I still like Taylor and want him to win, but buy one of his CDs? You must be joking. What I really mean is I enjoy his performances more than the performances by the boring Idols or the Idols that make me puke.
I like how David Foster didn’t pull any punches!!
Kellie: She doesn’t know what paper is but she knows “robotic”? Busted. Her actual performance? A snoozefest, punctuated by that hideous falsetto. and how does her poor old Grandpa and family get the bucks to be in the audience every week? I guess donation cups at her workplace.
Elliott: I really like that guy but I didn’t understand the praise from Simon. “Master class”? I didn’t see it but I’m no expert.
Kat: The wardrobe malfunction and boobage were distracting.
Taylor: I love James Ingram’s version of this so it was pale in comparison. And he messed up the words! Unforgiveable. I really like him and think he is talented but he hasn’t taken the opportunity to blow us away.
Paris: ‘I don’t have someone to love but I do have memories’?? Yeah but, you don’t have the types of memories in that song. She is technically great but she can’t possibly understand any of these songs.
Chris: I thought he did great with a crap song.
I don’t know. I was thinking back to Ruben and he doesn’t seem as strong as a few of the top folks here.
I tend to agree, but it doesn’t help Kat when the judges (Paula last night) saying she pushed her voice too much (at least I think that was what she was saying). She’s getting some mixed signals from the judges, IMO, and that’s really hurting her.
Frankly I think Ruben could wipe the floor with these guys… no contest. It’s a weak field this year.
Looking back, I see I didn’t say what was the promenant thought on my mind last night: David Forster gave the worst advice. He told Elliot to change the arraigment and the new arraingment sucked. He told Kellie to hit that note and it was horrible. He told Paris to modulate and it made her sound over-fussy. . . I bet he’s the one who picked Elliot’s tie and The Pickler’s hairstyle.
Last night was decent, overall. Definitely not my favorite night. My rankings:
- Elliott: I think he’s coming into his own. Not a great arrangement, but he sang it well and with feeling, something I think he has lacked in previous weeks.
- Chris: Just really good. Spot-on on every single note. Knows the difference between putting emotion into a song and just smiling through the whole thing.
- Kat: I thought she sounded great. She wore my favorite color, so she gets put just above Paris.
- Paris: Another solid performance, though I thought it was an odd song choice. Way too old for Paris and for her audience.
- Taylor: I thought it started out very weak. He sounded much better in the rehearsals. At some points I felt like I couldn’t hear him, and at some points he just sounded off-key.
- Kellie: Really bad. The judges always criticize people for singing songs by Whitney, Mariah, Christina, et al, why don’t they criticize singers for trying to do a song like this? If you can’t sing it as good/better than the original, leave it alone. Please let this be the week for Kellie to go.
Also: I disagree that this year’s talent isn’t as good as previous years. I’d take Kat and Paris over Diana DeGarmo and Jasmine Trias any day. Or LaToya London, or Nikki McKibbin. I’d rather listen to Chris, Taylor, and Elliott for a million years than listen to Justin Guarini … or Clay Aiken for that matter. I think we sometimes remember the previous years’ singers as being much better than they actually were.
Out of curiosity, for those folks who believe Paris is singing songs “too old” or “too sophisticated in meaning” for her age, what WOULD you have her sing? When she is able to choose jazz standards or torchy blues, she is praised to the heavens (and deservedly so), but those songs as well are mature in theme (even overtly sexual in nature, certainly compared to pop tunes about love gone awry), and obviously WAY above her level of life-experience. Is it just that she cannot really “do” pop tunes? I’m having a hard time reconciling the criticism that she continually sings above her maturity level, when she CAN do so nearly flawlessly if she is allowed (by theme) to select a bluesy or jazz number. I can’t think of a pop love song she COULD have done righteously, what ideas do you have?
Just MHO, but I have never felt the love for Taylor that others seem to. He deserves to be in the competition at this stage, but I will be sorely disappointed to see him in the top 3…he gives off that “wedding singer” vibe so strongly to me that it’s all I can do to look at him week to week. I’m nauseated by the funky mannerisms at this point, and his raw, scratchy “I got the laryngitis” vocals make me want to chew Hall’s cough drops convulsively on his behalf. Just me, I guess. The boy certainly has an ample fanbase without my vote.
I’m opting for Elliot, Chris and Paris as the top three. Pickler, OTOH, must go, and no time like the present!

Did anyone really catch what Ryan said to Kat then?
I thought he insulted her by saying, “Anyone with the volume OFF would vote for you.”
Did he say OFF or ON?
I thought he said “off” but not as a diss to her voice but more as a nod to what she showed off during her malfunction.
I definitely heard “Off” (oooh, snap). I was stunned & amazed at how harsh the judges were on Kat; I thought she was much better than they gave her credit for.
Just an FYI, Bocelli’s “Con Te Partiro” is the semi-official theme song of the Bellagio in Las Vegas. They include it in virtually every synchronized fountain show, which is one of the most amazingly beautiful romantic & cool things I’ve ever seen.
