Well Katherine shows everyone why she’s on another plane in this contest and should NEVER be in the Bottom 3 ever again!
I do love looking at Ace… but loose the falsetto sweetie. (He does get points from me for doing Keith Urban, tho…)
I still hate the Pickler, but she done good on Fancy.
But… Chris. Oh my blue Heaven. Love love LOVE him tonight (Yeah, Keith doesn’t hurt…)! His best performance so far, in my opinion.
I feel like Simon. I don’t know most of these songs and the ones I do know are not being sung particularly well tonight.
Simon always seems baffled by country music. I thought Katherine was kind of sexy tonight.
That bouncy thing she did was odd. If you’re singing about “bringing out the Elvis in you”, you should do more than bounce.
I like Bucky, I really do… but I don’t feel it in this song…
Wow… Bucky’s really doing a great job with Gary Allen’s version of “The Best I Ever Had”.
As a country fan, my fav of the night so far.
It is now official. The Pickler was the best tonight.
Kellie did fine. I’m not a big fan of her, but this was a good job.
Chris did great! I hate that song, but I could let him stare at me and sing like that all day long.
Katharine just wowed me. That was really awesome! I’ve never heard that song before, but she was just awesome.
Bucky was really cute this week! He won’t win, but it would be sad to go out on a night where he did so awesome.
Nobody liked Elliot? I thought he was very good! Followed by Pickler, and (mine! mine!) Chris-baby. I liked that he song a straight-up ballad without growling. Did I mention that he is smokin’ hot? No? He is smokin’ hot!
I thought Taylor stunk up the joint. Ace sucked, too.
Mandisa was a’ight, and McPheever was ok though it didn’t sound very country. Paris did a good job, too.
Oh, can’t forget Bucky! Kenny told him to over-enunciate, and he didn’t really accomplish that, but he was good. He’s sexy, too.
My predictions for bottom 3: Taylor, Mandrisa and Ace.
I love Taylor but he’s failed to impress for weeks. I think he’s tired/bored of the contest and needs to just get back to performing for real. Ace needs to wear tighter jeans and a see-through muscle shirt and give Ryan a lap dance if he wants to stay on any longer and Mandrisa is great in her element but her element (really loud gospelly numbers) is limited.
My pick for bottom three
Elliot
Katharine
Mandisa
He should’ve told Ace to over-enunciate. He sounded like the teacher on Charlie Brown.
Don’t they usually show the song titles? I could swear I used to know what they sang.
Speaking of knowing what they sang, what was KR going on about with the “no one will recognize your song, Bucky” bit? That was one of only a few songs I recognized tonight (Country Roads, of course, and I think one other one…). Why do I know that song?
And speaking of Country Roads, that is a song that makes me want to hop in my car with the sunroof down and just drive and belt it out. How could Taylor of all people bore me with it? Ugh.
I enjoyed Chris. I do like his voice.
And Katharine may have a technically lovely voice, but damn if her personality doesn’t rub me all kinds of wrong ways. I just can’t make myself like her, even though I can’t place my finger on quite why…
Because it’s not actually a country song.
Yeah, I’m going to perform “Smells Like Teen Spirit” because once I totally saw this dude do it karaoke…in Alabama!
By his own admission, Simon doesn’t understand country music.
I didn’t see a lot of the show because the Blue Jays were on, but I did see the Pickler. I actually found her pretty disappointing. She was good, but not great; on a night when she should have knocked it out of the park, she just hit a double.
She has cold, dead eyes, like a shark. I expected her to come up to the stage dragging a yellow barrel behind her.
I see the baseball game carried over into your Idol description.
I found the episode pretty poor from start to finish. Katharine sang wonderfully, but otherwise: very boring episode. Too many drippy balads. Too much bland contemporary country pop.
I missed Taylor’s performance so I can’t comment on that, but I thought Elliot was the best one of the night. He did a great job with that song and I think it’s because he didn’t sing it like Garth Brooks.
I can’t find the cite which specifically addresses Dolly Parton, although I had one earlier today. Sorry, I’ll keep looking. But if I remember my college Copyright Law classes correctly: the copyright holder does not have to give permission for their intellectual property to be used, but they can then make a claim on the proceeds if the I.P. is used anyway (or something to that effect - IANA lawyer and never played one on TV). It’s easier for TPTB at Idol to just get the OK ahead of time. There have been rumors in the past of contestants having to change songs in the middle of the week because the appropriate clearances could not be obtained in time for the show to air, but of course nobody from Fox is going to confirm that. I’ve heard the stuff about Kelly Clarkson refusing to license her music, but whether or not that’s true depends on whom you ask.
