American Idol 5/1 & 2

I don’t trust the American public not to have short memories. I fear Jordin’s going home.

Ummm … I have “Slippery When Wet” on vinyl. It came out in 1986, when I was in 7th grade. It was a Christmas present, I think.

Well, if you’re gonna get all musico-technically on me…

Good point. I had forgotten.

I hate to nitpick, but going up a third is going up four half-steps, not six (you don’t count the note you started on as a step).

Is there a number you can call to vote Bush off?

Is that the same number as the impeachment hotline?

Sorry about that. And as Dio pointed out, I should have said four, not six. But still, it was just startling when I saw BJ pull her up that far just for that note. The fact that she didn’t take the whole song up that much could mean that she has similar limits on her upper range as well.

Not only will the votes be combined, we also have to figure out the relative weighting, because last week’s show had the lines open four hours and got about 70 million votes. If this week is like prior weeks, there should be about 35 million votes cast, which means that last week’s voting weighs twice as heavily as this week.

By my guess, Jordin is pretty bulletproof because I’m sure that she got more votes last week alone (based on her strong performance then) than some of the weaker contestants will get for the two weeks together. Also, I’m sure that there are more than a handful of people who thought that Jordin being the last person “saved” last week wasn’t merely a psych-out trick and have been furiously dialing her numbers to “save” her from impending elimination.

Melinda should likewise be bulletproof.

The other four have something to worry about:

Blake’s Imagine last week drew a mixed reaction, so his strong performance this week (worth half as much) might possibly not be enough to put him above two others, though it would be a travesty if he were knocked out.

Similarly, Lakishia was weak last week and strong this week, but with her I think that any upsurge this week will have a hard time stopping what was probably her continuing slide in the double-weighted voting last week. I think Simon’s kiss was a kiss goodbye.

Phil had two strong (for him) weeks, but I don’t know if it will be able to overcome his history of weakness. The only reason he is still around is that he knocked it out of the park during country week when Sanjaya struck out.

Like Sanjaya, Chris seems to have a consistent fan base that has been able to get him this far. He has had two weakish weeks, and a loyal base counts less and less as the pool gets smaller, but I still think two weeks of his fans voting may be able to push him ahead of Phil.

I expect that it will be Phil and Lakisha out this week, though I really think Chris should go before either of them.

Acording to DialIdol.com:

Jordin and Blake are safe, the rest are bottom 4

Note that they represent actual science…

Much as I, personally, sympathize with the request and recognize that it’s a joke, please don’t bring politics into a decidedly unpolitical thread.

Billdo, actually I think Ryan said the lines would be open four hours last night as well.

Because no one left last week.

That’s what I was thinking. The greatest hits album has a stripped-type version on it she could have done. The hair also reminded me of Oprah.

I was wondering how Lakisha has lost all that weight so quick. Maybe last week she sent all her food to the starving kids in Africa.

The joke was understandable in the context: GW and Laura did speak on AI last night.

Because last week’s vote will be combined with this week’s, I’m going to predict that **Chris and Lakisha ** will be going home tonight. Last week Jordin sang one of the few great performances of the night with “You Will Never Walk Alone.” I think it appealed to the older voters as well as the younger ones.

Very good point. I forgot about the combined votes.

what the heck, overall…

  1. Blake

  2. Jordan (all of the sudden I like her)

  3. Chris (so his voice is a little weak, he’s one of the hottest contestants, ever)

  4. Melinda

  5. LaKisha

  6. Phil (not a star, he reminds me of Uncle Fester on the Addams Family)

My fear of course is, DialIdol not withstanding, we could lose two talented female contestants tonight and keep two lousy guys.

And my ultimate fear is that if a guy gets voted out it will be Blake. He has polled some low numbers of late and with them combining votes that worries me.

That’s awkward, Simon thought Seacrest was talking about his girlfriend.

I wish Simon would have run up on stage and kick Seacrest’s ass.

Sorry. (Head down, hands in pockets, kicking rock down the street.)

“He’s, like, awesome, and like, hot…” gag
Why does it not surprise me that what appears to be the stupidest blonde in the world likes Chris?

My hope would be Chris and Phil or Chris and Lakisha. My worst fear is that Jordin will be gone and Chris will remain.
