While I’m bummed to see the best singer, again, get second: with Crystal’s style, this is the absolute best outcome for her…she’ll get a record deal with a label that will give her control over the album, and she can actually make the record she wants, rather than a sales machine album.
I certainly know I have no desire to buy an album by Lee, but Crystal will probably get my money (and would be the first AI contestant to get my money).
Why do I have a feeling that Lee will have one album that will sell well the first week, then fade away forever, while Crystal might actually have a long and prosperous career.

I’m surprised Crystal didn’t win but I’m satisfied with the result. He’s pretty good.

19 Entertainment has rights of first refusal for all the finalists, I doubt they’d release Crystal since they’ve signed the first runner-up finalists for the past few years.
Given that, not being the Idol they might actually let her make an album that’s more her than ‘pop star machine’ which can only be a good thing.

In a completely non-Idol related note: I get a kick out of seeing Hall and Oates. I will never forget that my Mom explained the concept of ‘gay’ to me as follows:
“Well, it is when a man loves another man in the same way your Mom and Dad love each other”. I still didn’t quite get it so I asked for an example. This is the era of Boy George, Elton John and any number of other flamboyant possibilities. Instead she said, “Well, like Hall and Oates. They live together and love each other. There’s nothing wrong with that”.
For ages they were my pubescent idea of gay. It is only very recently that my wife told me they are straight and not a couple. Thanks Mom.
for a walking zombie with no voice he’s terrific! i’ve never seen any contestant look so out of place. especially with Joe Cocker… who i wouldn’t have recognized either, but i do know he is white. i must be getting old…

Crystal was never anything better than just ok. She was routinely lazy and easy in her song choices, her personality was smug and self-adoring, and the facial piercings were just too skanky for white bread America.
Lee actually DOES have a much better recording voice. Crystal is dime a dozen and copycat. America got it right, but it’s kind of the same difference. Both will release albums of 19 Entertainment bilge.
Lee’s superior vocal talent will become more apparent on the recorded product, though, and Crystal’s utter lack of anything but bog standard busker skills will be embarrassingly obvious.
Given decent material, Lee at least has a chance to make a career. Bowersox will be a sandwich artist within 5 years.
I also knew Joe Cocker was white, but when I saw him, I said there’s the Skipper, Where’s Gilligan?
sigh I had a feeling it was coming, but I still can’t believe it. Crystal is so far above Lee in terms of raw talent, ability and overall performance it just doesn’t compute. But, I actually like Lee, seems like a nice guy and I suppose he’ll benefit more from this. She doesn’t really need it at this point, I would say. But still. With the Joe Cocker song, I think Lee kept blowing his cues. He was supposed to be joining in the way Crystal was and she carried it.
And yah, would never have recognized Joe Cocker til he started singing. I still think of him onstage at Woodstock.
Can’t believe Lee took the votes, but then again, I didn’t vote so I have nothing much to say about it. I almost did last night, just because I was afraid of this happening cause everyone assumed she had a lock on it. But he had the big teen vote I’d bet and it won it for him. Nice guy and I wish him well. Crystal won’t be hurting, I’m sure.
My first exposure to Joe Cocker was the John Belushi impression on SNL when I was like 11 or 12. I didn’t know what he was doing and thought he was imitating a mentally retarded or brain damaged man. I was rather surprised when I saw the real Cocker and saw that Belushi had been doing him spot on.
The way things have gone the last few weeks and the way the judges have been pimping him, I’m a little surprised so many people posting are so shocked by this result. I mean, he does have a bit of “aw shucks” lost puppy cuteness and that goes a long way with the people who vote on this. I thought it was obvious the momentum had shifted to Lee.
BTW, Bowersox will be just fine. Coming in second has worked out pretty well for a lot of the people on this show and she will be no exception.
I knew it back when Simon critiqued Lee one week and said, “this is the night you will remember changed your life forever”. I thought it was an odd thing to say.
And lee Looked like he knew during the results, all nervous and prepped.
