These have to be the most tedious, bland and annoying songs of the whole season.* Jeez, couldn’t they have picked anything better for the big finale? Yeeeeesh.
*Except for Vehicle, of course. Go Bo!

Jessica definitely looked very pregnant. She must have been pregnant already when she was still in the competition. What Simon said about her lacking the “likeability factor” apparently wasn’t completely true. I wonder if she’ll do the tour.
My Lord… I can’t understand the hatred for Carrie. Though I guess it does prove those people wrong who earlier in the season said that country just wasn’t that popular in the US compared to other music out there. It seems Carrie’s country fans were with her every step of the way. I wonder if that is why people seem like they’d welcome Carrie’s death while on stage last night. A lot more people dislike country than rock, that’s for sure.
Not the greatest night for either, but Bo did better overall, and he should win.
The first songs from both were really dull.
At least Bo didn’t choke up and lose it.
I don’t hate Carrie, but she just doesn’t interest me that much.
Both singers were sub-par. The songs were, too. A disappointing finale.
I do have a question though for Diogenes. What is your favorite genre of music?
Is it me or did it look like Bo has had his teeth whitened?
I voted steadily until 11:45 EDT. Did anyone else get just half of the pre-recorded message starting at around 11:00? At that point I was dialing on the 01 number. After I got the half message for awhile, I switched to the 03 number and got the entire message again.
I noticed Anwar with the shorter hair, too, but I didn’t think it was an improvement. Of course, he was also wearing shades, so you couldn’t see his pretty eyes and no close up to see the pretty smile.
The Today Show did a bit about Idol this morning, pretty much saying that Idol was glorified kareoke, but all three “judges” predicted Bo would win. One of the “judges” was Bobby Can’t-Remember-Last-Name from Blood, Sweat & Tears. I was kind of surprised that he did not comment on the distinctness of Bo’s voice, because Bo so reminded me of the BST lead singer.
If the voting was based on last night’s performances only, then Bo should win, hands down, regardless of what Simple Simon slipped in to Carrie at the end. Carrie is an OK singer, but she’s just not very interesting. And it bothers me that you seldom see her mouth when she sings; she tends to hide it behind the microphone and she has a pretty mouth and teeth.
And Scott Savol was definitely in the audience. He was frequently in the shots of the judges.
Graphics Gal - I thought I heard Ryan say voting was open for 4 hours. I stayed up and voted until 1am EDT for Bo. I even did it two-fisted for an hour or so (cell phone in one hand, land line in the other). I got through almost everytime the last hour, I guess other people thought it was over at midnight. I don’t think I ever got half a message but I didn’t keep the phone up to my ears the entire time.
I’ve seen a few informal polls and it seems that Bo is in the lead.
FTR, I don’t hate Carrie. She seems like a nice girl, she’s pretty and she does sing well, however I am not a fan of just belting out music with no feeling or emotion behind it. The only emotion I get from Carrie while she’s singing is fear. I am also not a fan of Country music and Carrie doesn’t seem very comfortable or capable of singing anything but Country. She doesn’t have a lot of stage presence or personality. The deer in the headlights look really isn’t attractive. Granted these things can be worked on, but if you want a performer who’s going to be good right out of the box, that’s Bo.
I also don’t agree that “technically” she’s the better singer. She’s got flaws too and just being able to belt out and hold notes does not make a good singer.
Did we have to listen to the **entire ** message for our vote to count?
:smack:
There’s more than one genre I like but for the most part I like classic guitar rock…Hendrix, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Lynnard Skynnard…stuff like that. I also like some jazz and classical too, especially as I get older.
I can’t say for sure but I didn’t want to take the chance of it not counting. Although I didn’t really listen to the entire message every time as it is I think I was sleeptalking “Hi, thanks for voting for me, Bo. Watch American Idol tomorrow on Fox, brought to you in part by Cingular Wireless.”
Sometimes I’d try to get Bo in stereo on my two phones but most of the time I just listened long enough to know the call went through and then watched the call timer and hung up after 8 seconds, since it didn’t last longer than that.
What do y’all know about sick Idols? I heard on my local Fox affiliate that Bo had food poisoning and was quite ill, and my mom told me that she heard Carrie had an earache.
Could this have contributed to the somewhat lackluster performances last night?
FWIW, I think Bo should win. Go Bo!
That is interesting…I have voted for the last three years and I have never listened to the whole message every time, just listened long enough to hear the “thanks for voting” thing. My reasoning is that every connected call is considered a vote, regardless of whether you listen to the entire message…wonder what the official line is on that (I would just hate to find out all my votes were for naught for three years!)
I did the two phones thing for awhile, too, but quit after I started getting through regularly.
When I started getting the half message (it started in the middle…the first part was missing), I thought that was weird.
I knew the voting was open until 1:00 am, but even though I want Bo to win, I could only stay awake until about 11:45 (it’s pitiful I know, but I did last until 11:45). I will say that I was getting busy signals right up until I quit voting. Not nearly as many, but some.
Whoo baby does she have flaws.
You touched on one of my complaints about AI–it’s not the good singers that win, it’s the loud ones that do. They can all belt, but which ones can sell a note soto voce? Connie, maybe. A little. But voting audiences don’t seem to care about that. They want belters.
I didn’t hear anything about Carrie, but I heard Bo was in the hospital all of Monday night and part of Tuesday with Food Poisoning.
That’s why I completely jumped on board the Bo-train when he went a capella. It wasn’t super-gentle but it showed control and tone and was a show-stopper in its spareness.
He is the only contestant over the past few years whose CD I would consider buying, and the only one whose performances I crank the volume on. He just seems like he is having a good time, grateful for where he is, and really cute.
But I did feel bad for Carrie and how terribly nervous she seemed. It really did ruin some notes that in the past she wouldn’t have had trouble with.
GO BO!!
So, what do these fine “singers” have to look forward to?
Take Diana Degarmo:
One year later…
She’s singing at a high school.
For charity.
And the concert loses money.
From the AJC’s "Peach Buzz column. (Snipped some.)
Diana DeGarmo looks ahead
One year after finishing as runner-up on “American Idol,” Snellville’s Diana DeGarmo will be at the final episodes this week — but in the audience instead.
“It’s going to be a little weird not being onstage,” said DeGarmo after a Peachtree Ridge High School fund-raiser Saturday that also featured Rik Emmett of Triumph and local singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins.
But turnout was poor. Only about 200 people came to see DeGarmo, who played cuts from her current album “Blue Skies” and classics such as “Jungle Boogie” and “Chain of Fools.”
Mike Cohen, head of Quincy Entertainment, who promoted the concert, was befuddled. The school sold about 700 tickets but not even that many showed up. Cohen said the school needed to sell 1,500 $25 tickets just to break even.
“The kids at the school didn’t support it,” Cohen said. “And I’m not sure why Diana didn’t bring out the people. This doesn’t bode well for her career.”
I will definitely buy a Bo CD. They upped the age so better singers would appear and it worked. There was an article in TV Guide where I swear Scott was quoted as saying he’d have a record in stores byDec. Huh?
Well, William Hung has put out TWO albums, so I suppose anything is possible. Especially when you’re delusional and not on meds.
