American Idol - Finale

DialIdol currently has Cook ahead 59 to 55. Too close to call.

I wasn’t talking about sales; I was talking about phone calls. People can hate negative phone calls on a singer by calling the other phone line.

If I were the Lennon Estate (or whoever controls the rights) I wouldn’t even license the song if the God/heaven parts were cut. In my opinion it castrates the song.

Of course I really seriously doubt that there are many people on the rail at this point. If David Cook did a cover of Nick the Lounge Singer’s Star Wars Song song or if Archuleta dressed as a squirrel and sang I’ve Got a Loverly Bunch of Coconuts and both donned drag and joined Paula for an Andrews Sisters rendition of Shirley Q. Liquor’s TITANIC REPRISE as the group song I think they’re going to get the same number of votes as they would if they had nailed everything.

Wow, I’ve been trying to call randomly… I just got one call in for cook.

I think the judges acted like 3 sellouts trying to favor the one they “think” will win. Yuk.

This is the only way on Earth I would pay to see David A doing anything.

You owe me a new keyboard! I love the Straight Dope for posts like this!

Cook didn’t knock it out of the park tonight because he’s been knocking it out all season, and we’re used to it. He might not be the best Idol contestant ever, but I think he was the best this time around.

I’ve been voting on 03 – sometimes I get through several times in a row, and then it’ll be busy for awhile.

Archuleta – I don’t care if I ever hear him sing again. There will be nothing in his songs that we haven’t heard from him already. Cook can still surprise us, like he did tonight. Well, he surprised me anyway.

Everytime I see Dialidol it looks like a medicine name, one that would roughly rhyme/share cadence with Tylenol.

Sorry, I misread your post… I thought it said something about being a pop star as opposed to merely winning the contest.

Agree with AuntiePam.

I haven’t gotten through on any line–not a once. I’m trying all three every five minutes or so.

Speaking of sales, any idea how many I-Tunes downloads there have been for this year of the Idol songs? Or which ones leading? (I understand it did wonders for Jeff Buckley sales; his estate sold more downloads of Hallelujah than Castro’s the morning after the show.)
I’m hoping the artists do get a part of the proceeds, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it all goes to Fox/Fremantle. I still think that every Idol contestant who performs in a Ford commercial is owed a Ford on general principal.

Yep. It would treat diarrhea.

I suspect that season 5 did more for Daniel Powter than anyone else.

They’re not releasing the iTunes numbers at this point. They may after the competition, and I actually hope they do–it would be interesting to see what people liked.

I’ve never voted before, but the judges comments tonight pissed me off. I really did not think that Archie was that good, and I hated his rehash of Imagine, for the same reasons already mentioned.

Now, I’m compelled to vote, and it occurs to me - can Canadians even vote for this show? Anyone know? Are calls from Canada blocked?

Nope. There was a previous season where people were calling in droves from the Philippines at some bizarre hour because a Filipina girl was in the running.

sigh.

Got stuck at work and missed the whole thing. I’m eagerly awaiting Sampiro’s link-fu since I seem incapable of finding them on YouTube before they get yanked.

Ooh, found one:

Cook: The World I Know (no judges’ comments)

Here’s I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.

My doctor said Dialidol.

This time I’m faring better than usual with the 'Tubing. I am trying to pick out the ones with the most pre-song junk and post-song judging I can. These are all out of order, prob’ly:

Cook’s Dream Big - the fanwank, I mean fan-written song. I thought he did a pretty good job making it sound almost like something close to something he might conceivably want to record on a charity album or a losing bet.

Here’s a longer version of Cook’s The World I Know, singer’s choice. I thought this was a spectacular performance of a lovely Melissa Etheridge song. It is one of hers, right? Who can watch that and not see a rock star? I honestly think the judges (read: Simon) deliberately under-praised DC in hopes the masses would retaliate and vote like crazy for him. Judging from posts here, it worked like a charm.
