What was that crap they mentioned about Diana Ross being voted Entertainer of the Century? By who? The Diana Ross fan club?
I could think of at least 50 performers who could be considered “Entertainer of the Century” and Diana Ross wouldn’t be one of them. Elton John, Madonna, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Cher, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel…
Anyway, she brought some demo discs of her daughter, whose name I forget, and man this chick was hot! She musta had a bad day in Hollywood, because she’s ten times the performer Sanjaya is. She’da been a real contender at this point, if she’d made it past the Hollywood round. She reminded me a LOT of Nikka Costa; so much so that I thought she was something of a Nikka Costa clone. But her mom swore she’d never heard of Nikka Costa. So, she was a liar on top of being an annoying attention whore.

Every time they show Sanjaya’s family, I feverently hope they show the smoking hot sister. Absolutely amazing, and I wish she’d have made it at least to the 12.

Billboard Magazine.

The problem with the Dialidol system is that the group of people who use it are not a random cross-section of viewers. They’re people who use the internet a lot and who are savvy enough to install a program like that and use it. So it probably best reflects the choices of college students and young adults, who make up only a small part of the audience. I think it’s fair to say that the opinions of the 54 year old men and women is not really represented by the Dialidol scores.

When I first heard of the concept, I assumed that what they were doing was dialing from the DialIdol computer itself. I thought they were dialing the numbers constantly and repeatedly in sequence, tabulating the busy signals compared to the ring tones. Couldn’t it be done that way?

The second half of your post is correct – they tabulate busy signals vs. connected phone calls. However, it’s not just the folks at DialIdol doing this.
While dialidol.com is the web site, DialIdol is a program that you can download and set up to powerdial for your favorites. The program tracks the busy signals vs. connections, and sends that info back to dialidol.com for tabulation.

A few weeks ago I remember being mildly glad that Sanjaya was chosen over the sister. I got a distinct and chilly princess vibe off her.

True. Sanjaya gives off a much warmer princess vibe.
Surprised to hear his mom’s a housekeeper; they struck me as very upper-middle or wealthy in demeanor.

Right. But if you’ll check my post, I was actually asking whether it would work better the way I described.
I just saw a blurb on Inside Edition that Howard Stern is encouraging people to vote for Sanjaya to shake up the show, like he was the first one to think of it. Real original Howard.

Ah, gotcha. In that case, If they’re doing it on their own I don’t think they could put together a large enough sample to be accurate (although they’re not exactly accurate at the moment anyway).

It would seem you’re not the only one to notice this. From today’s Yahoo Buzz Index:
