American Idol 4/3 - 4/4

Did I hear correctly toward the end of last week’s results show that this week’s guest “master teacher” is Tony Bennett?

This has potential to be interesting. Melinda and LaKisha, no problem – but I’m wondering what kind of twist Blake’s going to concoct…

Tony Bennett? Dang. I’m old but I’m not that old.

Oh, I don’t mind Tony at all. My parents used to listen to his albums when I was a kid. Hearing him makes me think of my dad for some reason little girl smile

Other than I Left My Heart In San Francisco, I can’t say that I’m familiar with any of it.

ISTR, he had a big hipster rebound in the 90s. He even did MTV Unplugged, IINM.

Seems like a natural for this kind of thing.

I saw Tony Bennett on last weeks show, but I also saw Bon Jovi and another singer as being guests.

I’m not a huge Bennett fan, but I was a teenager in the 80’s so naturally, I like Bon Jovi.

My only contention: Please, PLEASE for the LOVE OF OG! SEND. SANJAYA. HOME!!!

Steppin’ Out with beatboxing?

Is that a prediction, or a guess at some updated lyrics?

“Steppin’ out with my hizzie,” maybe?

It was a prediction, but now that you mention it, it does fit the meter…

Steppin’ out, with beatboxing
Can’t go wrong cause I sound right

<insert rhythmic boom squeek ptwow sounds here>

And please, please let Blake wear a nice suit. I’ve had it up to here with the faux-hipster recycled '70s garb. As a woman from the land of Don Cherry, I can authoritatively state that no one looks good in a plaid sports jacket.

I like Tony Bennett, but there’s not a mentor in the world that could help Sanjaya.

Charo?

LOLOLOL!!!

Somehow I can’t picture Sanjaya doing the hootchie-coochie…

Current rumor is they are all singing Tony Bennett songs. I hope they do:

Fly Me To The Moon
I’ve Got the World on a String
Shadow Of Your Smile
Because Of You
Smile

Blasphemy! “Fly Me To The Moon” should only be sung by Frank Sinatra or Astrud Gilberto.

Blake has no idea what “Mack the Knife” is actually about, does he? He should have picked a ballad, I think. Not impressed. I think Simon’s score of 7/10 was overly generous.

Blake: Ooooh, that was a nice way to start the evening. Very smooth performance. And I can almost forgive the wardrobe mistress/master for giving him the wrong trousers…

I detest American Idol, but I am watching tonight and stuffing the ballot box for Sanjaya:

  1. because of all these people who are taking the show so damn seriously that they’re actually staging hunger strikes until he gets voted off

  2. because if Sanjaya wins, it will finally kill the show. Sorry fans, but I’ve had enough.

Please, someone button Simon’s shirt. Gag. I’m surprised there’s no gold charm tangled in that chest rug.

And while we’re talking fashion – Blake, enough with the plaid pants.

Phil does nothing for me at all this week. I think I’m in a bad mood. I love “Night and Day” and this rendition just stinks out loud. He does look nice, though, except for his head, which will always bug me, I guess. He should sing with a smile more often, because it does improve his tone significantly.

Hmm … he was thinking of his wife while he was singing that? Does he wish she were dead or something? Because it did kind of sound like half a dirge.
